Genevieve watched as Hayley and Amaya paced the room as they waited for a call from Elijah.
''You should sit down and try to keep calm,'' Genevieve suggested.
''What are you now? Magician-slash-zen life coach?'' Amaya sassily said.
''The treatment of pregnant women had advanced remarkably since I was a nurse, but even I know high blood pressure is bad for the baby.'' The wicked witch of the west pointed out. "Especially now that you're so close to term."
Maya rolled her eyes and sat down as she watched Hayley pace.
''Hayley.'' She said.
''What" Hayley said as she looked at Maya.
''If I have to sit down. Then you do too.'' She said making Hayley sigh and sit on the couch across from her.
''I hate this. I feel completely useless.'' Hayley sighed.
''Don't you get it? Both of you are the point of all this. Klaus and Elijah running all over town.'' Inhaling deeply Genevieve said ''It's all for the both of you.''
''Jealous?'' Maya asked as she quirked her eyebrow.
''I must admit I'm a bit envious.''
''Great. Lucky us.'' Hayley said as she smiled sarcastically at Genevieve.
''Is there anything I can get you?'' Genevieve asked.
''How about a moonlight ring?'' Hayley said.
''The spell can't be performed until the full moon reaches its apex, and of course, I need the stones, which will be here soon enough. Have a little faith.
''What's going on,'' Hayley asked Elijah through the phone.
''Jackson is fine. He's a little tied up right now could we call you back?'' Elijah said making Maya snatch the phone from Hayley.
''What do you mean Elijah?'' Amaya asked but received no answer.
''Are you trying to kill us.'' She heard Jackson say before Hayley snatched the phone back.
''Elijah, tell me what's going on now.'' Though they didn't get an answer because seconds later a loud explosion was heard before the line cut off.
*****
''You're alive.'' Hayley sighed in relief making Maya jump up from the spot on the couch and rush towards Jackson.

She pulled into an embrace before they pulled back and he went to hug Hayley.
''I'm fine, too. Thanks for asking.' Klaus said as he watched Maya and Jackson hug with a murderous glint in his eye.
Ever since he professed his undying love for her and she didn't say anything back things have gotten a little bit awkward between the both of them and everyone around could sense it.
''Aww,'' Maya said before walking up to Klaus and cupping his cheeks. ''Are you ok, Klausy poo? Did you get hurt in the big explosion?'' Maya faked worry as Klaus rolled his eyes before softly smacking her hands away from his face.
''What about the stones?'' Hayley asked as she and Jackson sat on the couch.
''Scattered across the bed of Mississippi, I imagine,'' Elijah said.
''Marcel is no fool. He knows an empowered werewolf army would mean the end of vampires in New Orleans.'' Klaus said as he poured himself a drink. ''The explosion is his way of saying that he means to prevent that, for all the good it'll do him.''
''Well, it did him pretty damn well, didn't it?'' Hayley snapped.
Jackson winced as he spoke ''This is my fault. I will find a way to fix it.''
''No, Jack. You're hurt, and no one is blaming you.'' Maya rubbed a comforting hand on his shoulder.
''I'm blaming you,'' Klaus said as a light smirk graced his features. ''Those stones will be hard to replace. Fortunately, I always have a backup plan.''
''Uh oh, this is not going to end well,'' Maya mumbled.
''Oh come on Ria have a little faith,'' Klaus said as rested his hands on her shoulders.
*****
Everybody stood crowded around Genevieve as she chanted the spell for the moonlight rings.
When suddenly Francesca walks in and says ''My people say Marcel is on the move and he's bringing friends.''
''Get Amaya and Hayley to safety.'' Klaus before walking away.
''Come with me,'' Elijah told the both of them but Amaya refused.
"Someone needs to watch her. Hayley, you can go with Hayley but I'm gonna stay.'' Amaya said.

''Yeah, I'll stay with her,'' Hayley said as she stood by Amaya's side.
''You should help Klaus,'' Francesca said making Maya narrow her eyes. ''My brothers and their security detail won't be much against a vampire army. I'll stay with Hayley and Amaya.''
''Go, Elijah'' Amaya sighed. ''Don't hold back.'' She smirked.
''Ms. Correa, we need to go'' One of Francesca's men said as she walked into the room. ''Your brothers already heading out the back.''
''Not yet.'' She raised her hand to silence him.
Picking up the stones, Genevieve analyzed them before saying ''The stones are finished. I've done my part. Now it's up to you.''
Walking up to her Maya said ''We'll get them to the bayou.''
''Actually, she was talking to me,'' Francesca said as she held up her hand to Genevieve as she placed to stone in it.
''What the hell is this?'' Hayley said as Francesca smirked at her.
''Call it a side deal. Point is, I'm taking the stones.''
''Are you out of your bloody mind?'' Maya raised her voice.
''You think that humans can go up against Klaus?'' Hayley said as she walked toward the girl.
''No. I don't, but I'm not human.'' Francesca then wiped out a knife and slit her securities throat. She then double over in pain before looking over at Maya and Hayley.
''I'm like you guys.'' She smirked. ''And now I'm gonna take back my town.''
''Like hell, you are.'' Maya went to take a threatening step towards the newly turned werewolf but Genevieve threw out an arm making Hayley and Amaya pass out.
*****
When woke up she was being dragged into the church as she trashed around.
''Please, no.'' She pleaded with them but her body was too weak she couldn't fight back against their hold.
''Get her down on the floor,'' Genevieve said from behind them as two others came in dragging a dead Hayley.
''We should take her to the city of the dead,'' Monique said as they set Maya on the ground.
''We won't make it. The baby is coming now.'' Hearing Genevieve Maya's eyes widened in panic.
''No. It's to soon.'' She panted as her stomach cramped. She let out a loud yell as she held onto her stomach.
''Apparently not.''
''The plan was to induce her when the sacrifice was ready.'' Monique said grabbing onto Genevieve''s arm when she took a step towards Maya.
''I had to subdue her, and the trauma cause a placental abruption. So the baby is coming, and we'll just have to adapt'' Genevieve snapped at Monique.
''Let me go!'' Maya yelled as they gripped onto her once again.
''You need to be calm, Amaya.''
''Why are doing this to me?'' Maya asked and put Genevieve in a state of shock because it was the most vulnerable she had ever seen Amaya.
''To be reborn, we must sacrifice,'' Monique said as she looked at Maya.
''What the hell does that mean, you psychotic, little bitch?'' Amaya asked as she then started trashing around.
''The ancestors demand an offering in exchange for power and your child will be a fine offering,'' Genevieve informed.
''No! NO!'' Maya yelled. ''You will not take my baby, I will all of you.'' Maya threatened.
''No, you won't, and neither will Klaus or Elijah. When your baby is born, we will offer it up to those who came before us.'' At Monique's words, Amaya couldn't help but let more tears fall. This was not how she wanted things to go.
She wanted her mom. She so badly wanted her mom to be around and to tell her that everything was going to be ok just like she used to. But she wasn't around to do that.
''I'm sorry, Amaya'' Genevieve said and for a second she thought she was being sincere before she said ''But this is the way it had to be.''
Amaya let out a series of no's before she let out a loud yell hoping that wherever Klaus was that he would hear her.
And he did.

This was my entry for National Novel Writing Month, because why only write one series at a time? The more the merrier! (meanwhile, my keyboard bursts into flames...) I'm also the writer of The Last Science, an ongoing low-fantasy/speculative sci-fi series. If you're familiar with that, you know what to expect here: lots of character-focused drama and dialogue, not a whole lot of traditional action. However, I'm writing a bit differently than usual here, and in a very different structure, so there should be some surprises for returning readers. I hope you enjoy it! [Discord] — for those of you who want to hang out and chat. Cover art (fullsize): Path of Revelation, by taenaron (Tobias Roetsch), modified by Etzoli. Normally I like to do my own cover art from scratch, but I was in a rush for the contest. Might be replaced down the line if I get time.
