《The Hidden Heir (VegasPete)》Chapter One

What a terrible dream it is.
I felt someone touching my shoulder and slightly shaking it. I still held my eyes close as I feel my head aching. I scrunch my nose; every movement of my whole body just brings pain on me.
“Khun Wegath (Vegas).”
Hearing that voice, I didn’t hesitate to open my eyes. I was welcomed by the bright light and an unfamiliar color of the ceiling.
Pete. It’s Pete’s voice. I know it is his voice.
I looked around and found Pete squatting on the floor as he tries to shake my shoulder to wake me up.
“Pete.” I called his name.
Don’t even fucking dare to tell me that this is a dream because this is real. I can feel his warm touch on my shoulder.
I still looked at him without blinking my eyes. I’m afraid that if I just close my eyes in a millisecond, he will disappear.
I extended my arms on him trying to reach for his face but he eventually dodge it, gave me an awkward yet polite smile and helped me stand up from the bed I was resting.
“Are you still feeling sick, Khun Vegas?” He asked and went to the other side of the bed, fixing all of the wet towels and basin that I think he used.
My throat is dry; my body is just numb that I can only follow him with my sight. The same physique, hair is a little bit longer; the face is still bright as if there is neither trace of problems nor anxiousness on him.
Pete is in front of me.
“Pete… you’re here.” I muttered.
Pete turns around and looked at me.
He smiled a little and nodded.
I want to go to his direction but my body is aching only to realize that I have a fever.
“Yes, Khun Vegas. Khun Korn ordered me to let you rest here first. Are you feeling dizzy, Khun Vegas?”
Khun Vegas?
Did he just call me Khun Vegas?
“Why are you calling me Khun Vegas?” I curiously asked.
I scan his whole body and I found out that he is wearing his old uniform. He is wearing the uniform just like when he was the Main Family’s bodyguard.
Pete laughs a little. “I always call you Khun Vegas.” He explained without thinking too much of what I just asked him.
What do you mean by that? No! I am terribly offended with what he just said.
“Pete, don’t joke around like this.”
I don’t have a clear memory of what happened and I am still clueless on what’s happening.
“But I am not joking, Khun Vegas.” Pete said with his confused face.
What’s with his formality? Why is he polite? Why is he wearing his old bodyguard uniform?

“This isn’t getting funny, Pete.” I said, giving him a warning.
I looked at him but he only stares at me blankly.
Why are your eyes like that?
Why are you looking at me as if you never loved me?
“Pete… you’re alive.” I spoke and tried my best to stand up.
“What do you mean Khun—“
I didn’t let him finish his sentence and went to him, pulling my weak body towards his direction to hug him tightly. I can feel his warm body to mine. This is enough to know that he is alive.
“You’re alive.”
Goddamn!
I don’t really care on why he is alive or will neither I will question what’s happening. I won’t care if this is just a hallucination.
Let me believe that Pete is here. I have faith that this is the person who I wanted to meet.
My weak body fell on him that he immediately catches me.
“Khun Vegas.” I heard him struggling to hold me. “Khun Vegas, please sit down and take your medicine.”
I didn’t even flinch and I don’t have any slightest intention to let go. I want to hold him like this.
What if I let go of the hug? Will I wake up from this beautiful dream?
I felt Pete slowly pushing me away.
“Pete…please, don’t go anywhere.”
“Khun Vegas, I think you just mistaken me from someone.”
I didn’t. You are whom I am referring to.
“Vegas!” I felt someone pull me away from the hug and strongly placed me again to sit on the bed. “What the hell are you doing to my friend?” Porsche growled.
“Hey, calm down, Porsche.” Pete said.
The door opened widely and Kinn and Phi Khun follow with his two bodyguards.
“Pete. What’s happening?” I asked.
I am confused. Why is he still wearing his uniform? The way he looks at me is also different.
“I think Khun Vegas is still sick, Khun Kinn.” Pete told Kinn before he stood beside Arm and Pol.
“I am not sick!” I shouted.
The moment I stand up, Porsche and Phi Khun blocks my way, preventing me to go nearer on Pete. Why are you all doing this?
Pete is alive! He is in front of me.
“You must be really sick in the head that you are attacking Pete,” Porsche spoke. “Kinn, take your cousin home. He is not thinking properly.”
I didn’t even bother to pay attention on what Porsche has been talking about. I can only stare at Pete who slightly bow his head, with his hands clasped together and didn’t bother to look at me.
“Pete,” I called his name once again with a pleading voice.
Please don’t do this to me.

“Yes, Khun Vegas?” He answered in a polite manner and slightly smiled at me.
Why? I want to ask why? Can’t he remember our relationship? Is he really seeing me as Khun Vegas? On what time period did I even went to?
“I thought you’re going to die!” Phi Khun exclaimed and rolled his eyes on me. “It is nothing serious. Let’s go, Pete, Arm and Pol. I heard Chen from EXO sang the OST! Let’s go!”
I can only watch Pete left the room without taking a look at me.
“What is that Vegas?” Kinn asked me with his eyes squinting. “Are you friends with Pete?”
“That’s impossible.” Porsche commented and with the same expression as Kinn, he looked at me. “You’re not targeting Pete, right?”
“Why would I?”
Damn.
“Did he hit his head when he collapsed?”
“No.” Kinn answered. “While you’re in a meeting with dad, you fainted because of high fever. Maybe an aftermath of the car accident you’ve been involved.”
I pause for a moment trying to analyze the situation. So I came back in time… which is I am not sure if I really did. Pete is still the head bodyguard of the Main Family. But my father is already dead! If this is after the car accident then Pete should be with me.
“Who take care of me when I was in the hospital?” I asked the both of them.
“Can’t you remember? Of course it’s Macau.” Porsche answered with such confidence.
“It’s not Pete?”
“Why would he take care of you? He is with Tankhun all the time and he belongs to the Main Family.”
So Pete isn’t with me.
“Phi Vegas!” I heard Macau’s voice and he hurriedly enters the room without even greeting Kinn. “They said you’re sick.”
“Take medicine first before you go home.” Kinn told me and left the room with Porsche.
Macau continues to tell me about his concern, explaining on how important it is to take medicines.
However, my mind is just bothered with the fact that this timeline is fucking messed up.
How wonderful it is to know that he is alive but it is also painful to know that he doesn’t even have the slightest idea about us.
“I already prepared the car, Khun Macau.”
“Nop! Come here!” I shouted at him and Nop almost fly just to go on my direction.
I stand up, held his collar tight. “You know it, right?”
Nop tries to remove my hand that is tightly holding his collar. “What… do you mean, Khun Vegas?” He asked with his shaky voice.
I can feel my blood rising that even the fever just left my body right now. With such annoyance, I looked at him straight into the eyes.
“You know that Pete stayed at my room, right?”
Is Pete pretending that he doesn’t really care about me? Is this setting about after he escaped? Didn’t he come back to me?
“Room? I don’t know… about that, Khun Vegas.” He replied
“Why the fuck didn’t you know?!” I pushed him away. “You’re the one who gives him food whenever I go somewhere! You’re the one assigned to keep the phone so I can talk to him! Now you’re fucking telling me that you don’t know?”
I kicked the end of the bed in frustration.
What the fuck is this?
“Pete…didn’t stay in your room, Khun Vegas.” Nop stated, standing close to Macau. “He has never stayed in your room, Khun Vegas.”
“What?” I asked still displeased with what I heard. “Stop pretending like you didn’t know!”
“Are you referring about the Main Family’s head bodyguard?” Macau asked me that I can only nod. “He is always with Phi Khun.”
“No! He stayed with me for more than two weeks!”
Not just two weeks. Pete chose me than the Main Family.
I am living together with Pete… and almost plan our wedding… if that incident just didn’t happen.
Now that he is here, why is this happening? I don’t really care if this is some sort of time travel or whatever you call this shit.
I don’t care if this is far from reality to believe with but as long as he is here, I am willing to be delusional.
“Pete is Tankhun’s head bodyguard.” A man entered the room, speaking in a calm voice.
Khun Korn scans me before speaking again. “He was here for a long period of time, didn’t left the Main Family. Never did the both of you have an encounter that you can be too attach on him. What are you thinking, Vegas?”
I sigh deeply. “Didn’t Kinn send him to spy on me?”
“I didn’t.” Kinn entered the room once again. “I didn’t send anyone to spy on you especially Pete.”
I both look at their calm faces. Pete didn’t spy on me which means that what happened on the both of us didn’t happen here.
“Maybe you only need some rest, Vegas.” Khun Korn said. “
Our story… didn’t exist?
( I always wanted Vegas to be in a world or other dimension where everything happened except for his and Pete’s love story. In this fanfic, I decided to bring Vegas in the world where Pete didn’t spy on him, he didn’t hold Pete captive and it is like another universe where their entire story just didn’t exist.)

But never would she think that facing up to her past would change everything. Is History written by the victors, or by someone or something else...? *** I started writing this a few years ago and eventually fell out of love with it. I never finished it and my newer books are being written in different writing style, and genre with a more planned process. I decided to revisit it for the writathon and found that it wasn't as hopeless as I'd come to think. Hopefully, I've improved as a writer since them so the consistency may vary. Its been good to revisit and analyse my writing which I feel used to have some clunky and obvious dialogue which I'm trying to fix. This will always be my first novel and I hope, with a little exposure, I may come to like it again. Thanks for reading!

Remorse
I have killed many people over my long life. Men, women, children. None have escaped the shadows that I control. It was only one tiny mistake that I made that changed my life forever. I underestimated her, and I would pay for my hubris. “For every death you have given, you will feel their pain.” What? “For every person you have killed, you will feel regret.” Wait, wait… “For every murder you have commited, you will know what you have done.” I don’t think this is going to be pretty. The power leaves her voice as she continues in a softer tone. “I will give you back what you have lost, you will feel empathy again.” Her power releases me and I fall to the ground. Diana. That was her name. I will remember it. ******** This story starts out somewhat dark, but it will lighten up after the first chapter. I tend to not enjoy the psychological tag too much since stories with the tag tend to be a little insane for my liking, but I feel that I would be remiss not putting it on this story, since a lot of it is about the psychology of the main character. All the content warnings are checked since I want to leave my options open to me for the future. I hope you enjoy.
