When I woke up, all that was on my mind, was Nova. Nothing that girl does ever leaves my mind because she makes me think of her every single second of every day. I could never get enough of her, the laughter and the smiles, she's just everything. Wanting to get to her as quick as I could, I left a note for Jerry and Katie then left. Like always it didn't take me long to get home. Only I saw a worry looking dad pacing in the living room.

"I'm sure he's safe." Dad, Tommy, said. "He's always careful."

"That doesn't stop me from worrying Tommy. He makes me worry so much." Dad sighed, his voice wavering a little. Guilt set in me for worrying my father since he isn't used to how vampires are, lonely and can protect ourselves. We can take down wolves if needs be, and being half and half, I have the upper hand if I did get in any danger.

"Dad." I called out.

"Where the fuck have you been? I've been worried, staying up all night because I don't know where you are. I come to visit you last night, trusting that you'd be here but I find the house empty. We agreed to let you live alone if you were always here. I was so worried." Dad rambled.

"I'm sorry. I was just having a moment and needed some time away to clear my head." I mumbled rubbing my hand on my thigh. "I was with Jerry and Katie. I'm really sorry."

"Just." He let out a deep sigh. "Just please let me know next time. I know you're close with them but I need to know where you are if you leave the pack lands."

"I will, I promise." I nodded. Dad huffed and hugged me. My head laying on top of his from the height difference.

"Why'd you go to Katie and Jerry? You know you can come to us when you have a problem." Dad, Tommy, stood up embracing both of us in his large arms. Me being close to his height rested my head on his shoulder and my other dads head so we could all hug. Other than Nova, these two are the only ones who can hug me like this. And the exception of Katie and Jerry if I need it.

"Just thoughts." I replied. Nothing helped with these thoughts because it was the inevitable, I knew it was coming and there's nothing I can do. I just know and I wish there was more I could do to stop my family from dying but I know it's impossible.

"Thoughts about what? Let us help you." Dad, Arlo, asked.

"Nothing." I pulled away with a forced smile. "I have to get ready for school and get Nova so I'll see you later." I told them and went up to my room. I quickly showered and changed into some simple black jeans and a black v-neck.

After doing all the necessities, I grabbed a jacket and left to go to Nova's. Which of course, when I got there she was still sleeping. Not a peep in sight.

"Upstairs Karter." Ryan told me. I nodded and made my way up to her room. To my surprise, she was awake sat on her bed, cuddling with her bear and blanket while reading a book.

"What you reading?" I smiled softly.

"Karter." Nova yelled and got up, throwing herself into my arms. I chuckled and hugged her tightly.

"Missed me that much?" I whispered kissing her head.

"Always." She muttered holding me in a tight embrace. "We go to school now then get ice cream. Papa promise me, he promised that you'd take me." She looked up at me.

"Do I ever break my promises, doll? What do you take me for?" I chuckled. "Of course, we'll go as soon as the bell rings."

"Promise?" Nova held out her pinky. I linked mine with hers promising to take her.

"Cross my heart." I smiled a little. "Get dressed then we'll go. Mika and Wyatt want us to get them as well."

"You help me?" Nova stuck out her bottom lip making puppy eyes at me. Which she knows I can never say no to.

"Fine." I sighed giving in after a few seconds. With that, I put her down and picked out some jeans, since she doesn't want to wear a dress from yesterday, a vest since it's hot and some underwear. Helping her, she does her own girly necessities and I help when she really needs it. Other than that, I'm turned around not looking.

"I'm ready." Nova called out letting me turn around. Looking cute as always, we leave her room. As I walk down the stairs, nova jumps on my back making me lose my balance and fall. Using my vampire speed, I turn around so she falls on top of me, no harm coming to her.

"That was fun, let's go again." She giggled going to get up. I held her to my chest tightly still processing what just happened.

"Nova, baby doll you can't do that. You could have gotten really hurt. You need to warn me next time, really you need to be careful. What would have happened if you got hurt, I'd be upset because you got hurt because of me." I told her standing up. I held her in front of me by her shoulders, being serious that this wasn't to be taken lightly.

"What happened?" Ryan and Eli come running out of the kitchen.

"Nova wanted to get on my back but didn't tell me. I fell but she didn't get hurt." I explained.

"Goddess Nova. Please be careful. Tell Karter next time, you could have been seriously injured." Eli exhaled, relieved nothing happened to Nova. While he was scolding her, Ryan came to my side.

"Are you okay? I can tell you took the fall for her." He stated.

"Yeah. I'm okay, just worried about her." I sighed. "Come on Nova, let's go get breakfast and forget about it."

She nodded, looking at her feet with a guilty look on her face. I put my fingers under her chin to lift her face to look at me.

"It's fine, but tell me next time okay. Now smile because I don't like seeing my doll upset." I told her with a smile. Nova brightened up smiling. "That's my girl."
