《Innocent Love》78

When we got home, the pups were sleeping so we put them to bed. Kit fell asleep in my arms on the walk back so I laid him in my bed. I'll have to leave later to get him a bed so he has somewhere to sleep. I refuse to let this boy sleep anywhere other than a bed in one of the spare rooms.
Once all the kids were in beds and remained asleep, Alaric, Karter and I went downstairs and sat on the sofa. None of us speaking. Silence engulfing the room, none of us not knowing what to say about the child asleep in our bed. What could we do? I know if it was up to me alone he'd be our son, no doubt about it. But I'm not in this partnership alone, I'm in a relationship of three people, not one, so this is a discussion we need to have.
"What do we do? His parents are dead, he's a vampire and does not belong with humans." I finally said.
"We can't just take him, baby." Alaric stated. "He's gonna have more family, people that are going to fight to keep him with them. I don't think he can stay with us."
"There's more to it than that." Karter spoke up. "Just to get this kid in our care we'd be putting the pack at risk. We'd have social workers looking through our home, like Alaric said, other people from the couple wanting him in their care. Doll I wish we could keep him because he's one of us, but we can't. Not in human laws, I don't think it's possible." He sighed.
"Can't you trace their scent? Maybe go to their home and see if there's any other family. To see if there's no body else to take him?" I frowned. "He doesn't belong with humans, he won't be able to control his thirst without us. Kit will kill and kill until someone catches him and he's arrested. We can't let him go back."
"Nova, I don't know what to say. Honestly if it was easy as taking him on then I'd say yes. No doubt about it, he seems like a good kid. Human laws and courts won't let us if he has any other immediate family. This is a battle we won't win, it's guaranteed." Karter told me.

"Please, track their scents as much as you can. Check phones, go to their house and see if there's any other immediate family. If there's not take his birth certificate, we can have him as our son." I begged.
"What if there is? We can't just take him. It'd be kidnap." Alaric sighed.
"Then we'll move. Next door, you can help him with his thirst, he'll have kids like him to relate to. I don't care if it means we have to leave this pack, we have to protect this boy at all costs." I told them. We just have to.
"Fine." Karter nodded. "We can only track the scent so far, so if we don't get to the house we have to call the police about the bodies if no one has already. Nova." He kneeled in front of me. "Please, don't get your hopes up about him not having family. It'll hurt you more, you need to get in the mindset we might not be able to adopt him."
"I know." I replied. "But I'm not giving up on that boy. He should be around people like him."
"Baby we understand more than anyone that Kit needs to be around people like him. All we can do right now is see if he doesn't have any immediate family." Alaric kneeled with Karter in front of me.
"Okay. We have to try though. Right? We can't just sit here and do nothing." I whispered.
"We will do everything we can, okay?" Karter said.
I nodded and looked at my hands in my lap. "I'll stay with the kids, you two go and check out the house. There has to be something that indicates if Kit has anyone else to live with."
"Okay. Don't stress, relax and we'll be back soon." Karter stood up with Alaric. They both kissed my head before leaving the house and going back to Kit's parents.
After an hour the pups woke up, I went up to get them since they can't do the stairs on their own just yet. We're in the process of getting them to go down on their own. Going up they can do it, Amaris needing me behind him but they can all do it. Once I got upstairs, Atlas and Aria were already outside their rooms.

"Where's Amaris?" I asked them, usually they get their brother as well.
"I no know, mummy. He not in bed." Aria replied.
"Okay." I frowned and opened my youngest sons bedroom door. His bed messy with no sleeping wolf pup. Aria and Atlas probably shifted in their sleep and woke up and got themselves dressed. I encourage Amaris to dress himself so he can have that independence when he's older. Unlike me I was babied a lot so had to have help getting dressed even into my teenage years.
So no pup in bed. He's got to be in the house, I would've heard him come down the stairs and out of the house. Going into my bedroom, I checked the bed. Kit was still asleep with his back to me. I went to turn away until I heard a whimper. Kit still unmoving, so it wasn't him. As I got closer to the bed, I could see my sons fluffy mop of hair from under Kit's chin.
Amaris snuggled into Kit's chest closely, his head under his chin while Kit has his arms around Amaris' small body. The size difference reminding me of me and my humongous mates. Knowing both are safe, I shut my door quietly and took Atlas and Aria downstairs for lunch.
It wasn't long until I heard whimpers coming from the stairs. Leaving my pups to eat lunch, I stood at the bottom of the stairs seeing Kit holding hands with a whimpering Amaris while he helped him down the stairs. Kit muttering reassuring words to Amaris so he'd follow him down the stairs. With the words of encouragement from Kit, Amaris took one step at a time until both boys reached the bottom.
"Mummy did it." Amaris smiled widely when he saw me.
"Well done my baby. You did so good." I kneeled down and kissed his cheek multiple times before I stopped.
"What do you say to Kit."
"Kit help me." Amaris giggled.
"Yeah he did. Are you going to say thank you to him for helping you?" I asked.
"'Hank you Ki'." Amaris smiled at him.
"You're welcome, Amaris." Kit smiled back.
"Come on, I'll do you some lunch." I said, I took Amaris' hand in mine and held the other out for Kit. He looked up at me, his wide green eyes staring back at me. "You can take my hand too, if you'd like." I reassured him. He nodded and placed his small hand in mine.
When we got to the kitchen, I pulled out a chair for Kit and Amaris. I tried getting Amaris to sit next to Aria, but he was having none of it. He kept whining until I let him choose his own chair. Next to Kit. So I pulled out the chair next to Kit and let Amaris sit next to him. I made them both what I did for Atlas and Aria, giving my older pups something little as well so they could all eat together.
"Mummy I have red milk please?" Atlas asked me.
"Of course baby. Good boy for asking." I told him, getting a cup for him. "Aria do you want some?" I looked at her to which she nodded. "Amaris, what about you?" Again I got a nod. "Kit, would you like some?"
"What is it?" He questioned.
"Do you know what a vampire is?" I kneeled by his chair. He shook his head. "Well, a vampire is a person that drinks blood, they can run really fast and hear really well. Alaric is a vampire, you're like him. You're a vampire, Kit."
"Oh." He whispered and looked down. "Is that why I killed mummy and daddy?"
"No darling." I shook my head. "It's not your fault, okay. Nothing is your fault, it was an accident." What am I supposed to say to a little boy? I can't tell him, I know he'll realise it later on in life, but right now I can't break his heart even more than it is from losing his parents.
After a couple hours, night fell, me and the kids were all cuddled up on the sofa still waiting for Alaric and Karter to get home. By the time they got home, it was late, almost midnight.
