RHYSAND

My son.

For a moment, I could feel his heart beating, the life in him vibrant and there.

And now, I could feel nothing of him.

The only thing I could feel was the overwhelming grief of my mate, seeing her standing still on the grass feet away from Under the Mountain.

But I couldn't move to her. I couldn't do anything.

My son.

My every focus was on him, scrambling to find anything of him. It was as if the bond we shared had disappeared all of a sudden, making everything within me still.

My knees gave way, dropping onto the grass, the shadows of night hovering over me. I felt the tears stream down my face, dripping onto the grass like the rain that was pouring down.

I couldn't hear anything.

I felt numb.

I felt incomplete.

I failed.

My son.

Then I screamed, letting my tethered darkness spring free.
