《Gotham, I'm Back》~ 7.~

I knocked on the door to Alix's room and after hearing a "come in" walked in. Without hesitation I went straight to the problem.
--You didn't say what you had on mind, at dinner. Why?--
--It's because of Marinette. You see the girl, Lila, bullies Marinette. She and my classmates went even so far, that one day they beat her up and left her in an alley to die. We got to her a few minutes later, she ended up being in a coma for a week.--
--Why didn't you say it?--
--Mari doesn't want anybody to be worried about her and her problems.--
--Okay, I'll talk to her, thanks for telling me.-- I said with a small smile and went to Mari's room. She was sitting with Damian and Chloe talking about something,so I just said:
--Mari, can I talk to you in private?--
--Sure, why?--
--I'll tell you, come with me.--
We went to the library I had in a secret room, sat down and I told her about my power of reading people's memories. She agreed to let me try, so I touched her forehead and concentrated on her past. Once I went through her memories from the past three years I gasped.
--C-could you tell me everything Lila lied about, that you remember?--
She listed about sixty things when she got to the heroes day call.
--When was it?--
--What?--
--Heroes Day.--
-- 24 April.--
--And how long was Lila gone?--
--For months. From the first week of March to two months after.--
-- It was three years ago right?--
--Yes.--
As soon as she said it my vision got blurred and I stumbled into a wall, with my last common sense I pressed the panic button on my bracelet and broke down crying on the floor in a panic attack. After of what felt like forever I faintly heard Bruce, and my siblings bursting into the room, and talking. I suddenly remembered everything from when my nanny told me that my parents are in the hospital. The news that everyday their state got worse, and finally their death. Their funeral, the depression, the anxiety, the panic attacks and nightmares. Then... I heard music. Violin, my favorite instrument. I made out Cassandra's voice and could feel my cats rubbing their heads against my legs. I was slowly calming down and when I thought that I was okay, I fainted.

I woke up on my bed, I looked at the watch and it read midnight. I blinked a few times and figured out Fury's and Jason's outlines. With a faint voice I said:
--Jay?--
-- Cocoa, you're up. I have to call the rest of the family.--
--No, don't wake them up. I'm fine, just a bit shaken.-- Fury cuddled into me and Jason asked:
-- What happened? Your last panic attack was like a year ago.--
-- Lila. S-she killed, she killed my parents.--
-- But I thought it was the car crash.--
--Actually no. Well, they did end up in an accident, but after they were in the hospital, each day their health got worse. It happened 3 years ago, between March and May. It can't be a coincidence, that it was the same time period when Lila was out of school.--
-- Why not?--
--Look, her name isn't Lila, it's Maria. She had a sister named Lila, but she died from cancer. And she isn't 16, she's 18. I met her on one of my trips to Italy with mom. She somehow thought that I was a threat, when I started pointing out her lies of her fabulous life. She started beating and insulting me along with her "friends". I was relieved when me and mom went back here.--
--When was it?--
-- Twelve years ago. We were six.--

I woke up for the fifth time this night. I guess I'm not gonna have any sleep. My eyes adjusted to the faint light and I made out Marinette's figure.
--Mari? Wht are you doing here?--
--I told Jason to go to sleep and took turns on watching over your sleep. Bruce told me that after panic attacks you usually have nightmares.--

--Thanks Mar. I suppose Jason told you about my parents.--
--Yeah, he did.--
She yawned and rubbed her eyes.
--Go get some sleep, I'll be fine. I was meaning to get up anyway.--
--No, I'm okay.--
--If you say so, but you are still getting a nap later. For now, what do you say about some special coffee and cookies?--
--Sure, that would be great.--
We walked to the kitchen and I prepared coffee for Marinette and some cocoa for me. We took out the cookies and sat down by the bar.
--You know, this thing is really good, why aren't you drinking it?--
--I'm allergic to coffee, although grandpa Alfred taught me how to make it, in case of a Tim emergency.--
We sat in comfortable silence for a few minutes and I asked.
--Can I tell you something?--
--Another secret?-- She said with a smile.
--Yeah, I have quite a lot.-- At this Memory walked in with Alfred the cat, Fury and Batman the cat.
--Sure, go ahead.--
--Well do you see her eyes?-- I said pointing at Fury.
--Yeah, and?--
--Well.-- I said taking off my contacts. -- I have the same color.--
--Wow, they're beautiful.--
-- I know, wait did you say beautiful?--
--They're really nice.--
--Hmm, they usually scare people, that's why I wear contacts.--
-- I still think they're nice.--
--Thanks Mari.--
--Is it a good time to tell you that I'm going to be your tour guide alongside Dick on today's WE tour?--
--You work at WE?--
--Yeah, I'm in the architectonic department.--
--Wow.--
--If I were dad, I would give you an internship, but I can see you're doing perfectly fine as MDC.--
--You know?--
--Yeah, I hacked Damian's phone and saw your text. I was curious who made him happier.--
--So, your a tech person.--
--I'm learning a lot from Tim.--
--Oh my it's 7 already. I think I have to get ready for the tour.--
--Meet me here after, and we can make breakfast for the sleepheads.--
