《Ice Cold ~ Toshiro x Reader》1- Memories

"Wake u-u-u-u-u-p!"
An annoyingly familiar voice shouted in your ear. Ignorance is bliss, you thought to yourself. Apparently that wasn't always the case, though, because a moment later the covers were pulled off of you. You squealed a little at the cold air suddenly making contact with your skin.
"S-Shut up!" you cried, sitting up fast.
"Hah? I pulled off your covers, I didn't even say anyth-"
"Eh? Hajime..?" you murmured under your breath, kicking your noisy brother away from your bed.
"What do you mean "eEeeHhH?" Stop trying to sound cute... you're a demon. Also, wake up."
"I'm awake, if you can't already tell," you retorted tiredly, choosing to completely ignore the demon comment. "Why'd you have to wake me up so early? What time is it?"
You stretched your legs and got out of bed, beginning to brush your hair. Your annoyingly immature 16 year old brother shiftily drifted his gaze away from you, making you narrow your eyes in suspicion.
"Uhmm... ten..."
"Ten?!" you gasped, eyes wide.
Okay. No. He's kinda dumb, maybe he doesn't mean it like that.
"Ten what, exactly? Ten to 8? Ten past 7? Ten thousand!? What ten!?!?"
Hajime scratched the back of his head sheepishly, avoiding your gaze entirely as he mumbled, "Uhh... ten... like, AM... on the clock... I guess?"
He began slowly edging towards the door as if you wouldn't notice. You looked towards your bedside table only to see your alarm was missing. For a second you thought it must've fallen down somewhere, but this whole situation was way too suspicious.
"So. Care to explain, darling brother?" you smiled sweetly, dangerously close to knocking him over the head. You were late. Reeeally late. You'd promised your auntie and cousin that you would do your best to attend school properly this year... and being late on the first day? That was not a very good start.
"Ah. Um. Uhhh... Okay yeah I'm not doing this right now, later gater."
He sped out the door at full speed, almost tripping in the process. He slammed the door behind you, and you just stood in shock.
"H... Hajime!" you shouted, running after him. You spotted him in the kitchen, rummaging through the draws in search of a weapon. You hauled yourself over the banister of the stairs with a "hup!" and slide down the banister, tackling him with all your might.

"What in the hell did you do with my alarm, you little crotch demon?!" you demanded through clenched teeth, picking yourself up off the floor and wincing as you rubbed your elbow, which had hit the ground.
Hajime glared at you in anger for a second as he stood up, then he remembered that you were the one that was supposed to be mad and he waved a hand flippantly.
"It fell and stuff. And I uhhhhh stepped on it possibly. And I kinda forgot to wake you up earlier. But I made you lunch, so that was pretty cool of me... am I right or am I right? Hahaaaha. Love you sis," he quickly sped behind the kitchen counter so you couldn't hit him.
"You better have made me a good lunch," you muttered after a moment of pause, hopping off the ground with a huff. "I'll be late, and I hate you, but okay. Thanks for making me food, cretin," you smiled, trying to stay in your best spirits around him. He was fragile as it is, he didn't need you getting genuinely at him over a stupid alarm clock.
You walked into the kitchen, and made yourself some toast as fast as you could. Once you were done you threw your bag over your shoulder, slipped your lunch box inside, and stuffed a piece of toast into your mouth. Hajime stared at you in disbelief.
"Oh, kill me now... don't tell me you're gonna do that cliche 'toast in mouth' run..." he cringed, shaking his head.
"I kinda have to thanks to a certain somebody! Jeez," you huffed, slipping on your shoes. His raised an eyebrow.
"Wait, I was joking but... you're actually going to do it? Really, woman?" he asked, scrunching up his face. You could practically feel him judging you. You rolled your eyes.
"Psh. Bye feral," you called, slipping in one last rude nickname before stepping outside.
"Bye gorilla," he yelled back at you as you closed the door. You rolled your eyes and smiled.
Little did you know, it would be the last time you saw your brother...

After your "cliche" toast-in-mouth run was completed, you arrived.

Karakura high school.
You suddenly found yourself feeling extremely nervous- even before the end of term last year, you'd been skipping school for a month or so.
Coming back after being gone for so long was terrifying. And after June left... it hadn't been the same.
"J-June... are you really leaving?" your friend begged, on the verge of tears. You bit your lip and put a hand on her shoulder.
"Lily, I don't think that rumour..." you started, but stopped yourself and turned to June. "...Is it true?"
"Yep! I'm moving," replied June, with a cheerful smile. "I can't wait to soak up the sun at the beach! It'll be a nice change from the boring rivers in Karakura town."
"Oh.. I-I see.. that's... that's really good! I'm so happy for you!" Lily exclaimed forcefully, with a weak smile. You clenched your fist in anger.
Lily was always the one to consider other people's feelings first. She acted how she thought the other person wanted her to.
When you first met her, you thought it was manipulation. You two didn't get along at all. But, as you gradually got closer, you realised that it was simply her way of making other people happy.
You looked June in the eyes fiercely.
"Why are you so happy to get up and go? Were you really that unhappy here with us? I thought we were a team. Have you really forgotten the vow to stick together, no matter what? Was that empty, like all the other things you said?"
Yeah, then there was you. Always the one to say exactly what was on your mind. If you were mad or upset, you'd sure as hell let everyone know.
"No... Y/N, please. Can't you just be happy for-"
"I... I really thought we meant more to you. It's okay, though. Bye, June."
You walked away, not wanting to hear excuses. Still, even behind all the anger, you felt devastated. You knew it wasn't entirely her fault. You knew she probably wasn't actually happy about it. You longed to say sorry; to even whisper a word of apology - even a goodbye - but that feeling was far overpowered by the hurt of betrayal, the hurt that came from seeing her leave without even shedding a tear.
With a sigh, you walked through the gates.
Thank god they're still open.
You couldn't help but feel nervous, as there were teachers already on duty outside, waiting for everyone else to come out for lunch break. You shiftily slid through the office door. Unfortunately, in your school, you needed a good reason for being late, and a so-called 'late pass' to give to the teacher of your next class.
The office lady glared at you from the moment you stepped in. She was a grumpy old lady with leopard print glasses, and she wore perfume that gave you a massive headache. Speaking of headaches, you could feel one coming on now.
Maybe this year I'll find the courage in me to complain to the principal about this scent, you decided. I feel like I'm losing 5 braincells a second every time I walk in here.
"Can I help you, sweetie?" said the office lady, bringing you back to reality. You nodded, walking to her desk awkwardly.
"Uhmm... I'm late. Well, obviously. My brother sort of broke my alarm," you stammered sheepishly.
"But why on earth are you so late?" she questioned gruffly, completely ignoring the reason you gave her. You furrowed your brows but decided to roll with it.
"Like I just said literally five seconds ago, my brother broke my alarm..." you said with a sigh. Impatience was getting the better of you. You zoned out her lecturing, and once she stopped speaking she handed you a late pass with a sneer. Without hesitating, you stomped out of the office to escape the suffocating scent of... you weren't sure honestly, but whatever it was, it wasn't nice.
Now... to get to your class.

First Draft
Taking care of someone was hard. Harder still when the only job you can find is a graveyard shift at your brother's school, which is apparently haunted by a man claiming to be the devil. Oh, no, how horrific. I'm so scared. So, terribly, horribly, atrociously scared. Whatever shall I do? My life as a janitor is a simple one, and that clingy asshole won't leave me alone, so forgive me if I don't put enough gravitas into the situation. The only really scary prospect to this whole thing is that the KKK is in town, and I really don't want to deal with their bull. The gang activity is enough, why do we need to have an all-out war on school grounds? That will be too much for me to clean as a poor, lonely graveyard janitor. Old Summary: My gaze raised, and I observed the darkened face of the ghost, only visible feature being glowing red eyes. They faded into darkness, and I thought the offer over even as the body seemed to grow heavier in my arms. My first friend since this whole thing started, a few years ago. My brother needed to survive. That didn't mean I did. "What's the price?"
