A/N: so this beauty was requested by @XamXin ! I hope you enjoy it! Also: MERRY CHRISTMAS YA'LL!!!
I'm sorry if Fruit-chan sounds a bit OOC, I tried my best ;-;
You knew you had some investigators on your ass. How could you not? You could almost be considered an SSS-rated ghoul! But seriously? Send six squads after you? That was a bit much, even for you.
"There they are!" Someone yelled behind you, making you throw a curious glance towards them. Seeing an unidentified projectile flying your way, you dodged it and kept running forwards. "Don't let Yin Yang get away!" The person ordered, making you roll your eyes behind your mask.
You scaled up two buildings and ran even faster, knowing freedom was right there. Once you'd jump down into that crowded area of oblivious people, you'd take off your costume and you'll be able to blend in with the crowd. It'd be another victory for you (from what you recalled, the score would be you: 7 CCG: 0).
Just as you were about to leap off the building, someone tackled you to the right, making you fall in a dead-end alleyway. You cursed under your breath as a man clad in black got up, apparently unbothered by the fall. If he was human, he was a really strong one, but then again... He didn't smell right.
"Hello!" He cheerfully greeted, taking out his quinque. "You must be who we call Yin Yang! A pleasure to meet you, you're a legend!"
"And you must be incredibly dumb." You shot back. "Listen, I'm not interested in eating humans. You can run away right now and I won't hurt you." You suggested, changing the pitch in your voice so it wouldn't be recognizable later on.
"Hm?" The man tilted his head to the side and you had to admit he looked really pretty like that. Too bad he was an investigator... "I don't think so. Kijima would be soooo mad if I let you go!" With that, the raven haired beauty (yes, beauty. Because you could not deny how handsome the guy was) leapt forwards in an attempt to attack you, which you easily blocked.
"Six of your squads couldn't capture me." You rationed. "This is suicide, --"
"Furuta." You let out a confused noise, hinting to the man that he should explain. "My name's Furuta!"
You sighed and dodged another pathetic hit from Furuta. He must be a new investigator, most likely one of those over-confident ones who think they could bring down the Owl on their own. "Furuta, this is suicide. You can do something better with your life, you know." There was no way you'd actually kill him without at least warning him. You weren't that heartless, after all. You just did what you wished investigators would have done with your deceased family members.

The male simply smirked. It was a terrifying smirk, one that was able to send shivers through your spine. It was a warning, you knew it (you were familiar with it). The investigator who murdered your family had a similar smirk before he decapitated your mother.
The guy was stronger than he let on. His attacks got a lot stronger in mere seconds (and also way quicker), and you had more difficulty blocking them. He was smaller than your kakuja, therefore faster. Maneuvering a gigantic kagune like that wasn't easy, okay? Furuta had another advantage, that being the small, cramped-up alley you were fighting in. Your kakuja couldn't fully form here, taking away a part of your usually indestructible defense (and offense, for that matter).
The fight went on for a few more minutes and the idea of just knocking him out cold and fleeing became very, very attractive. You just needed to catch an opening in his offense and you'd be alright.
"You know," Furuta spoke up. "You're a good opponent. I feel sort of sorry."
You scoffed, but he didn't know you were mocking him from behind your mask. A good opponent? Sorry? Sorry for what? You were going to have the upper hand soon, surely he doesn't think that he can-
"Take aim!" An unfamiliar voice yelled, making you freeze in place (a very bad move, considering you should have just bolted out of there when you had the chance to). "Fire!"
At least a dozen of needles pierced your skin, making you cringe at the odd feeling it gave you. You looked down to inspect what you had actually been shot with and realized that Furuta had tricked you. And he had tricked you good.
"How clever." You muttered, taking a soporific bullet out of your thigh. "Distracting me with fighting while the CCG installed themselves around to shoot me with soporifics."
Furuta looked at you with a proud smile on his face as you lost consciousness.
"Wakey, wakey!" A familiar voice exclaimed making you jolt awake.
"Furuta, are you sure this is safe-"
"Hush! I'll be fine. If you're too scared, you can always just leave." A door closed shut after that comment.
You looked down at yourself, seeing that you were tied up with what must be quinque steel chains before glancing up at your captor, who gave you a smug smile.
"Well aren't you quite the looker?" Furuta asked, settling down on a chair of his own. "So easy on the eyes! It's such a shame that you're a ghoul!"
You remained silent, trying your best to not blush (it's crazy how a person's personality can change without their mask on, isn't it?).
"Aw, you're silent now? I liked your little comments on the battlefield!" He pouted as you mustered up the courage to talk.

"How come I'm still alive? Aren't I a threat to humanity?" You spat. You might or might not have been slightly salty about being caught by the CCG when you were so used to flaunting your many victories against them.
"Listen, I'm trying to do you a favour." He muttered, leaning forward to gain more intense eye contact with you. "We both know you could be useful to the CCG, don't we?"
"I could, but why would I? One of your men murdered my entire immediate family." You muttered, not able to look at him in the eyes.
"Ahh," You heard him lean back in his chair as you still refused to look at him. This guy was really careless, wasn't he? First, he captures an SS-rated ghoul, then he ties it up with only chains (and expects it not to bust out of them?) and now this is how he reacts to learning your family's dead? Furuta is just asking for you to bust out and kill him. "But the investigator responsible is dead!"
"The old creep with white hair and gloves?" You asked, suspicious.
"Yeah." Even if he answered, you weren't sure if you could trust him. You just label him with the 'do not trust' etiquette. That's just the type of guy he looked like to you, right now. "But listen to me, okay? I'm trying to save your life here."
"Why would you want to save my life? I didn't do anything for you."
"Exactly, so be glad I'm taking pity on you for no reason!" He snapped before passing a hand through his hair and taking a deep breath. "What I'm trying to say is, you're useful to us. You have zero interest in eating humans and you kill only ghouls. If you can agree with me on certain conditions, I can talk to the higher ups so they can free you."
You bit the inside of your cheeks to refrain from saying 'yes' too quickly. A) this guy didn't look trust worthy. You didn't know him, therefore you don't know what could be going through his mind. B) just because he's willing to free you doesn't mean his boss is willing to do the same. You're not guaranteed freedom if you allow him to do whatever he had planned.
Before you could answer, the door behind Furuta busted open and two men came in. The first one was wearing what you assumed was a prison guard outfit and walked straight to you, grabbing the handles behind your chair and wheeling you away from Furuta, to a cell behind you that you had just noticed.
"Hey! What are you doing? Bring them back!" Furuta yelled, ready to fight the guard off of you until the second man -- you nearly busted out laughing at his hilarious hair cut-- stopped him. "That ghoul is under my custody! They're mine, you can't just roll them away-"
"I apologize, Furuta. The council decided on executing them." The man calmly said as you were pushed inside the cell. Once the guard was out, a glass wall slid shut, stopping all sound from entering your new 'room'. Good thing you could still read lips.
"You can't just do that without my permission!" Furuta apparently yelled. "They could be useful to the CCG and you know it, Ui!"
"Using a ghoul? That would be outrageous. And unfair. To add on, we don't need your permission to execute an SSS-rated ghoul."
"We'd be using fire to fight fire! We've done it before. Why do you think we fight with quinques, huh? And the Quinx? Don't give me that bullshit." Wow, he was really angry with you being executed, huh? If you hadn't known any better, you would have said he liked you.
The bowl cut king (that hair cut is simply ridiculous to you) hesitated to talk back, glancing at you, who was still calmly strapped to a fucking chair. He then looked back at Furuta.
"Why are you so keen on saving them? What's so special with that one ghoul?" He asked. Furuta eyed the man down, as if he was wondering what he should say to answer him. Was there more than one correct answer to that question?
"They're more human than what they let on." Is what he went with. It seemed to be effective on the man you assumed was named 'Ui', who froze up and gave you a second glance. You simply looked curiously between the two men, eager to see if you were still going to die or not.
"...I'll see what I can do." With that, bowl cut king left Furuta alone, who turned to your cell with a certain familiarity in his eyes. As if he recognized you, but he couldn't have. You had never seen this man in your life...
He ignored your puzzled look as he gently traced a finger on the glass separating the two of you, fighting back his serene smile as he took in your appearance once more. The resemblance you shared with Rize was uncanny, but almost non-existant at the same time (does that even make sense? It makes sense to him). It was confusing to him (which was extremely rare), but... He couldn't waste such a special specimen like that, could he? There was just something about you that he needed to keep with him, and he'd keep it. Even if it meant fighting the entire CCG all at once.
He'll have you. You just need to accept his favour.

Memories of the Fall
This is a story about two sisters, Jun Arai and Jun Sana, and their friends, Juni, Ling and Shu who make their living as members of the Hunter Bureau, an organisation dedicated to dealing with the terrifying flora and fauna endemic to their home Great World. When they get dragged into a grand scheme to unpick the ancient secrets entombed within one its foremost forbidden zones in their world, the Yin Eclipse Mountains, they must all try to survive the dark machinations, eldritch undercurrents and the echoes of a terrible conflict trying to re-emerge into an unsuspecting cosmos that had rather hoped it was done with that kind of thing a few eras hence. So please come join Arai, Sana, Juni, Ling, Shu and the rest of my cast as they journey through strange lands, meet all kinds of unusual beings and unravel some of the power and glory of a land time tried very hard to forget. I promise terrifying mushrooms, angry snakes, confused gods, even more confused cultivators and much, much more! Update schedule: (02/6/2022) As chapters are done, sorry. Progress: Currently up to old chapter 13-15. Chapter 24(or 25)/13, Parts 1 & 2 will be the end of the rework. Part 2 has been temporarily delayed due to me getting a frozen shoulder in the middle of June, which has been very slow to properly clear up. It is getting better, though, but Shoulder/neck is the worst set of muscles to have issues with ;( You can currently pick up most story threads after the rewritten chapters, starting from chapter 13-14 (old) Genre-wise, this is a bit hard to pin down. It's technically a Xianxia (because cultivators!), but it also veers towards Xuanhuan and has more traditional High Fantasy elements and a bit of Gods and Monsters and All Myths Are (on some levels) Valid. It also has a fairly large, ensemble cast, so if multiple point's of view are not your thing I am sorry. It won't ever really be considered 'grimdark' by any real measure of that definition but it does go to some complicated and fairly places dark occasionally, which I will note in author pre-chapter notes when expedient!. About the Author I mainly write fiction for my own hobby, it makes a nice change from academic scribbling! I started writing this quite a number of years ago. It has grown somewhat organically out of a bunch of different interests in all kinds of Mythology, World Building, Drawing Maps, Archaeology, Anthropology, History and Epic Fantasy fiction into what it is today. So I hope you enjoy the story and thanks for reading! Other stuff The cover is made by the author, using photos taken by the author. There is a Discord Server- Please come and chat, but beware of spoilers.

Lost Things
"In this disordered continent, where everyone seeks to be the heroes of their own tales, there are still some rooms for smaller stories to breathe." "Past, present, and future—keep your eyes open, and see where they lead you to." This story follows three housemates’ lives: Carson Calding, Virgil Barion, and John Salore—onto their adventures of finding Carson’s past, Virgil’s present, and John’s future. Despite their clashing backgrounds and circumstances that forced them together, they’re definitely going to find the things they had lost, for sure. Each entire chapter will be updated biweekly. There'll be three smaller parts per each chapter. Note that this story was written to be an interactive one, with polls at the end of each parts deciding on what happens next. Though, the polls for this story won't be available on Royal Road updates. (I also upload this in Arcane Odyssey forum, and it's currently the only place where I open the polls and use the poll results from.)
