《Tokyo Ghoul X reader OneShots》Hunch | Ui Koori

A/N: this was requested by @ChiaraLM6 ! I hope you enjoy
You rolled your eyes as Ui followed behind you, walking to the meeting point for your squad. You had no idea why he had been so nervous for this operation, considering it was well underrated compared to your usual missions. The strongest ghoul there would probably be rated A, if not A+. Your boyfriend had nothing to worry about and yet here he was, thinking that if the wind blew too strongly you'll fall apart.
"Will you relax?" You said once you had arrived (ten minutes early of course, because Ui had a thing about punctuality). "We'll be fine. You were calmer when we were about to fight the owl, for goodness sake!"
"I'm not... I'm relaxed!" Your boyfriend countered, even if it was obvious that he was nervous. "This isn't even an S rated operation, why would I be nervous?"
"I'm asking you, Koori. You're the one trailing behind me as if I needed a body guard." You sassed. Before your boyfriend could answer (or deny) your sassy comment, a few other people arrived to your location. Ui shut up and decided to make conversation with them about something else, not wanting anyone else to know that he was nervous about something as trivial as an operation.
You, in the meanwhile, tried to assess the situation. What could make him so unsure of this operation? Sure, ghouls had always been unpredictable, but you always managed to pull through and survive. And Ui isn't one to underestimate you in situations like these, so it couldn't be that either. Had he received classified information about the case? Was that why? Maybe. Or maybe it was just one of those days, you never know.
Either way, that wouldn't stop you from participating in the operation. It wouldn't last long, anyways. You'd just bust in, kill the most dangerous ghouls in there and get out. It's a routine kind of thing.
"We need to split up, this place is bigger than we anticipated." One of your colleagues, Aki, suggested while you nodded. You and your team had discovered a whole building that was attached by an underground tunnel to the one you were raiding. Talk about a surprise.
"I don't understand why we haven't done a scan of this place before we raided it." You clenched your quinque tighter in your hands while you looked around.

"Right," Aki said. "Make sure to tell the council after we're done here, we can't make that mistake again in a more dangerous operation. Anyways, Ui, you'll take the right wing on the second floor. Hitachiin, you'll take the left wing. I'll check the floor level. (L/N), can I trust you with the basement?"
You nodded and glanced towards Ui, spotting him opening his mouth to protest before closing it. Was he aware of this secret building? Is that why he was nervous? That doesn't make sense, but you still can't think of what could be putting him on the edge like that.
"Are you sure it's a good idea to send (L/N) downstairs without backup?" Hitachiin asked.
"Yes." Aki nodded. "This isn't an incredibly dangerous raid. (L/N) will be fine, won't you?"
"Yes, I will." You assured. "Let's stop talking, though. We're wasting time." With that, you left your squad and hurried downstairs to get this over with as soon as possible.
Let's say Hitachiin was right to be a bit worried about you being downstairs alone. There were a lot of ghouls here trying to hide. It was sort of like walking into a cave and seeing hundreds of bats looking at you from the ceiling (okay, maybe you were overreacting a bit, but still).
That doesn't mean you had trouble fighting them off, even though it was a bit harder than what you would have thought, given the mission's rating. You pulled through until some ghouls had the brilliant idea to all attack you at the same time.
You managed to dodge the first two ghouls, causing them to run into each other and stab themselves with the other's kagune, but the next four weren't very easy to escape from.
As you fought against two of them, you managed to impale one only to have a stronger ghoul (you'd say they had a half-kakuja going on) replace the now dead one. It was a never ending circle of doom for you, and you were getting tired of it (and just really tired).
By now, your only goal was to kill as many of them before you, too, died. You made peace with the fact that you weren't going to live through this if ghouls kept pouring into the room from left and right. But then your mind went to Koori and you felt terrible for how you treated him today. The guy was nervous about you ever since you arrived on the grounds of the raid and you had been waving off his doubts only to die during the mission. What a hypocrite you were.

"I'm sorry." You sighed before attacking the half-kakuja ghoul in front of you. It managed to throw you off by slicing at your stomach, making you tumble back and add pressure to it as you tried your best to keep the blood from freely pouring out of your fresh wound.
You had to take your focus off the current danger just so you wouldn't pass out from the current pain you were in, giving the ghoul its chance to kill you. You curled up on yourself, ready to just take the hit until the half-kakuja killer was knocked back by someone else. Someone with a quinque.
The person was easily recognizable for you. From his fighting style to his physique, it was dead obvious that Ui was the one who had just saved your life. And that he was currently in the midst of taking on three ghouls at once. The one who had hurt you was a few ways away from the fight, recovering from the blow it had just received.
In just a few minutes, Ui had disposed of most of the remaining ghouls before going back to the one who harmed you. He kicked it down and pierced it through the neck. "Don't fucking touch them." He growled as the ghoul choked on its own blood.
As nice as it was seeing him fight for you, you couldn't deny being a tad bit scared at how far Ui was willing to take things. You had never seen someone fight so many ghouls in such little time like this. It was almost inhuman, in some sort of way.
"You're bleeding!" Koori exclaimed, ripping you out of your worrisome thoughts. He crouched down to your level and gently peeled your hands off your stomach, hissing once he saw the total damage the ghoul had done to you. "That's a bit worse than I thought..."
"I'll be alright. Help me up and we can go find some med team outside the building." You suggested, already reaching out for your boyfriend, whose eyes were still fixed on your open stomach. "Koori. Snap out of it and help me up!" The pain was getting tougher to ignore now that the adrenaline was wearing off.
He shook his head and picked you up, carrying you bridal style in his arms so you wouldn't loose too much blood. You had to admit that in all honesty, you didn't feel like walking anyways.
"I was pretty lucky that you came when you did." You said. "A bit later and I would have been dead."
"Don't tell me that. I feel bad enough that you're hurt, I can't even imagine what I would have done if I found you dead." Ui supressed a shiver as he carried you up the stairs of the basement he now officially dreaded. If he had been a few seconds late, you wouldn't be talking to him right now. You might've had way more than just a gash in your stomach at the moment.
"How'd you inspect the entirety of the right wing so quickly anyways?"
"I didn't. I may or may not have half assed it..." Koori shamefully muttered. "But Hitachiin knew I had a hunch, I'm sure he checked that part of the second floor for me."
"Well, you can't be blamed for anything, considering you saved an investigator from death."
The man holding you in his arms simply bit his lip. He absolutely hated even thinking about the alternative situation. He'll have a very serious discussion with you about how you shouldn't bite off more than you can chew. He knew he should have told Aki that someone needed to go with you downstairs... "Consider yourself lucky that I had that hunch."
"I am. Thank you for saving my life, Koori. I love you." You then kissed his cheek, smirking at how even now, it still made him blush. Was this boy ever going to get used to the fact that the two of you were together? Probably not.
"I love you too. Take better care of yourself next time. Don't overestimate things like these, okay?" He sweetly said as the two of you exited the building.
You nodded, silently promising him that you'd be more careful next time.
