Somin: It's the first time for me too.

Bella: KARD is known for members being able to participate in album producing. I heard it was the foreign people who first noticed the talented group KARD

Somin: Yeah it's true. We did something called pre-debut using 3 songs. We didn't participate in any shows, only releasing the music video and the songs. The first song was... It was under the genre called moombahton which is not famous in Korea. After South American people saw us performing that song, they were surprised that a Korean is singing such genre. Since then, they started to love listening to our songs

Bella: I think you are the only group that did the international tour as a debut

Somin: You are right

Somin: Each fan from different countries has different styles. Latin people enjoy the song very much

Bella: You have a unique pronunciation. How should I say this. There is a word for this... vocal fry!

Somin: Fry, yeah that's right

Bella: Originally vocal fry was used to stretch the vocal box. But k-pop artists are recently using this sound in their songs. It was very interesting for me and I was surprised that you were using it very skillfully. Were you doing it on purpose?

Somin: To be honest, I have a very clean voice. If I don't add some spice while I am singing, it might sound bland to the listeners. So I am adding these kinds of variations

Bella: I want to talk more about vocal. In your previous interview, you mentioned that "I have confidence with my vocal", "I want to have a more husky voice". Is that true?

Somin: Yes, I said that. To be honest, since I was young, I have been listening to singers like Rhianna who have husky voices. So I wanted to have such a voice too as they sound charming. However, my voice is the exact opposite so I didn't really like my voice and wanted to have a husky voice

Bella: Then I'll ask you again. What do you think of your voice? Do you still want a husky voice?

Somin: Not now. Now I accepted my voice and right after knowing that I can't have a husky voice I tried my best to listen to my voice and love it. I studied how to express my voice better by listening to artists who have a similar voice

Somin: Yes, much more than before.
