"It's fine, calm down." Will assured Nico, ringing the doorbell. He was just about to meet Will's mom and stepdad for the first time. Nico's stomach flopped. "Do they even know you're... um..." Nico stuttered. Will shook his head. "No. But it'll be fine." He repeated. Just then, the door swung open, revealing a small, blonde woman who looked just like Will. "Will!" She exclaimed, pulling him into a hug. Nico shifted awkwardly. A guy with dark hair and blue eyes appeared behind her. Will's stepdad. Will's mom let of him and he stepped back. His stepdad smiled at him. Will smiled back. "Who's your friend, Will? One of your brothers? Cousin?" His mom asked. Will's face turned red. "No." He glanced down at his hands uncomfortably. "Um, this is my boyfriend, Nico di Angelo." Nico saw her eyes widen and panicked. What if she didn't like him? What if he made her think less of Will? What if- "I should have known." She smiled warmly. "I can tell by the way you look at him." She said. And before Nico knew it, she had her arms around him and was hugging him. He glanced at Will. He looked relieved. Nico gingerly put his his arms around Will's mother. Human contact always made him nervous. Except for when it was Will. She released Nico and put her hands on his shoulders and studied him. He didn't know what to do. He glanced down at his feet. "It's so nice to meet you, Nico!" She exclaimed. He smiled a little. She took her hands off his shoulders and stepped back. "Yeah, um, Nico, that's my mom," Will said "and this is my stepdad."

"It's nice to meet you." Said Will's stepdad, holding his hand out for Nico to shake. He took his hand and shook it lightly. "Come on in, dinner's just about ready." Mrs. Solace said.

About 10 minutes later, they were all set around the table eating lasagna. "So, Nico, I assume you're a demigod too?" Mrs. Solace asked. Nico swallowed. "Yes ma'm." He replied. "Who's your godly parent?"

"Hades." He said quietly. "Ohh!" Mr. Solace chimed in. "I always thought he was cool." Will grinned and even Nico had to smile. "Um, Mrs. Solace, this is really good." Nico commented awkwardly. She smiled across the table at him. "Thank you Nico. Oh, and call me Mom." Nico blushed and grinned and felt Will's hand on top of his under the table. He had a good feeling he was going to like them almost as much as their son.
