A village was burning.
The smell of smoke was everywhere.
A child was about to be crushed, but Makkari managed to save them in time.
"Where are the others?"
Ajak asked Thena and Makkari.
"We had to split up."
Makkari signed.
"There were more Deviants then you said."
Thena mentioned.
"Well, I'm sure that was a lot of fun for you."
Phastos said.
"It was."
Thena smiled.
"Once the others kill these last Deviants, we will have eliminated them all from the planet."
Phastos pulled a small hologram up on his watch.
Gunshots came from the forest.
Druig's eyes glew yellow.
Y/N was about to say something, but Ajak beat her to it.
"Don't."
"We don't interfere in their wars."
"This isn't war. It's genocide. Their weapons have become too deadly."
He turned to face Phastos.
"Maybe it wasn't such a good idea helping them advance, Phastos."
He glared at him.
"Technology is a part of their evolutionary process, Druig."
"It's not exactly something that I can stop."
"No, you can't. But I can."
"Stay strong, Druig."
Y/N whispered to him.
"It's too late."
Thena suddenly said.
"Thena?"
Sersi turned around.
"Everyone is going to die."
"Are you okay?"
"Thena?"
Makkari zoomed to move Sersi.
"Thena!"
Ajak shouted.
Thena stabbed Phastos.
"Thena you have to st-"
Y/N shouted, before being stabbed in the stomach.
She groaned in pain.
She noticed Ajak behind her, and was quick to move, but Ajak's hand was the only thing harmed.
"Don't listen to your head, Thena. Listen to my voice."
Ajak put her hands on Thena's face.
"You are safe. You are loved. You're our Thena."
Ajak whispered.
Thena attempted to stab Ajak once more, and failed the first few times, but managed to stab her once.

"Hey, Thena! Stop, stop, stop!"
Gilgamesh grabbed her from behind.
He lost grip from Thena and blocked her hits.
Ajak healed her wound, as the two kept fighting.
Ajak picked Y/N up in her arms.
"Is she okay?"
Kingo rushed over.
Ajak nodded.
Sersi was on the ground aswell.
"Thena, please. Come back to us."
Gilgamesh was out of breath.
"Okay—"
Thena swung again.
Gilgamesh slammed his fist down onto Thena, making her unconscious.
—————
"I though Mahd Wy'ry was a myth."
Sersi stared at Thena.
"There is no cure."
Phastos says, being healed.
"—so no one really talks about it."
Thena's eyes shot open, and she gasped.
"What happened?"
"Thena. You attacked everyone. Wounded Sersi, Phastos, you nearly killed Y/N."
"I don't remember..."
She stammered.
"You have Mahd Wy'ry. Your mind is fracturing under the weight of your memories. And all I can do is erase them so you can start over."
Ajak informed Thena.
"I will have to inform Arishem and take you back to the ship where we have the technology to help you."
"But she won't be Thena anymore."
Makkari signed.
"What if it happens again? She could've killed Y/N! She could've killed all of us."
Kingo said.
"Please. Please, I...I want to remember."
Thena begged.
"I want to remember my life."
"Thena, I love you. But listen to me. It's not important if you remember or not. Your spirit will remain. You will always be Thena deep inside. Trust me."
"Why should she trust you?"
"Druig—"
Y/N walked towards him.
He ignored her.
"Your asking her to let you erase who she is."
"Druig, I know you're upset, but—"
"Upset!?"
He raised his voice.
"Calm down, Druig."

Y/N whispered.
"We've trusted you for 7000 years, and look where you've gotten us."
"I've watched humans destroy each other when I could stop it all in a heartbeat."
"Do you know what that does to someone after centuries?"
"Could our mission have been a mistake?"
"Are we really helping these people build a better world, huh?"
He walked to the entrance.
"We're just like the soldiers down there. Pawns to their leaders. Blinded by loyalty."
"It ends now."
His eyes lit up.
The people in the town stopped fighting.
Ikaris grabbed him and pushed him on the wall.
"Let them go."
"You're gonna have to make me."
"Stop, both of you."
Y/N got in between them.
"If you wanna stop me, you're gonna have to kill me."
Druig eyed Ajak.
"Don't say that, Druig!"
Y/N shouted.
"I'm sorry, Y/N. But I'm making a difference."
He turned and walked down the steps.
"I'll watch over Thena. Let her keep her memories."
Gilgamesh insisted.
"One day, when she attacks you, you might have to kill her."
The two exchanged looks.
"We'll take that chance."
Everything was silent for a few seconds.
"You may all go."
Ajak dismissed us.
"The Deviants are gone. There is no reason for you to stay with me."
"Shouldn't you ask Arishem first?"
Ikaris asked.
"We're a team, we should stay together."
"I didn't ask you for your advice, Ikaris."
"Do not forget your place."
"This is where we say goodbye."
Ajak sighed.
"You are free to go."
"I want you to go out there, and live a life for yourselves."
"Not as soldiers. Not with the purpose you were given. Find your own purpose. And one day, when we see each other again, I want you to tell me what you found."

The Infinite Labyrinth
(Story complete - Book 1 "Shanghaied", 2 "Shortcuts", 3 "Secrets" and 4 "Sanctions") It is the 19th century, and war smoulders between England and France. Any hope for a quick end to Napoleon's rampage across Europe ended when the Great Gates opened in 1800. For a fortunate few, the strange world of the Infinite Labyrinth offers opportunities, strange descriptors popping in their minds, informing them of growth, and status beyond that of a mere mortal. The materials and power crystal they bring back foster a new age, both military and civilian. Aether-powered Skyships prowl the skies, as all the great nations blessed by the Gates try to turn the blessings of the Labyrinth into immediate advantages. But for Jonas, an apprentice leatherworker, his friend Ira, and so many Londoners, the fabled ones that walk the Labyrinth are distant heroes, seen from afar. They fell short when their Potential was measured, and they fill their mundane lives with distant dreams. One man wants to break the stalemate. The Tyrant of the Dominion of France, Napoleon Bonaparte, has a plan. Eighteen years after the world changed, he will force it to change again. And when civilians are caught in the fallout, the unthinkable happens. Six people, unqualified, forbidden to ever enter the Labyrinth, find themselves stranded in a distant zone, forcefully turned into Professionals. They know little of what that means, but they have to figure out the rules that are now their lot, for they have little hope to escape their predicament otherwise. They need to understand what the descriptors in their minds mean, what each of the strange piece of gear waiting in treasure chests behind terrible guardians can bring them. They have to become Professionals on their own and rejoin the Empire. They will figure out their new lives one way or another. But will there be an Empire waiting for them when the Gates re-open? Caught in a clash of empires and high tiers, they will do what little they can. They will step up and do their best. One way or another. The Infinite Labyrinth is a slice-of-life litRPG adventure set in a real historical setting. It's a hard, crunchy litrpg. Expect blue boxes everywhere, and the system itself is very mathy. It started life as a serial. I prepared some proper worldbuilding, with enough details and background for lots of different potential story arcs, but as I wrote, I realized the main story needs to have a definitive end. So, there are four books in total, for a bit under 1500 pages, plus additional side stories, and even maybe a sequel one day. The Gore tag was added as a precaution because there are a few scenes with some light gore.

Reasons to Stay
Immortality has a cost, it differs from person to person. Some regret seeing their loved ones die, some regret they themselves cannot die, some regret the boredom and some regret nothing. This man regrets not having a choice, so after millions of years of getting shot, beheaded, beaten, stabbed and stoned he escaped from the world by hiding in a bunker with his books. He had studied all forms of science, he had lived history and created art, he was content with being alone with his mind until one day a man with a monocle appears, and he learns the truth. Hi! This is my second novel and I just had this idea when I was trying to sleep and my mind was making me re-live all those goddamn nightmares you don't want when it's 1 am and dark as shit, so I thought of happy things like the fantasy genre and my inevitable death and i'm like why not?
