《an undertale fic written a little too recently》chapter two (aka: your mother)

a wafting sweet smell drifted through the air, catching your nose off guard and allowing you to gain consciousness. you opened your eyes, blinking them a couple times to clear up any cloudiness. stretching your arms out, your back cracked.
oop, yeah thats definitely healthy
'woah, you okay in there, kid?' a voice sounded through your door, slightly muffled and groggy.
you opened your door to reveal sans standing outside, massaging the space around his eye sockets. a fuzzy housecoat was draped around his shoulders, in which he wrapped one side over the other, securing it with the matching belt.
'I was on my way to tell you-' he stopped, his eyeline meeting your hair. 'woof, thats a good look for you, kid, you should style it like that more often.' he nodded towards the strands sticking up in all directions. 'did you have a brush with a wild animal or something?'
despite your unimpressed glare, you couldn't stifle a small grin. sans seemed contented, and continued on with what he had been saying.
'pap wanted me to let you know that breakfast is ready for whenever you're ready.'
you gave him a nod, signaling that you'd be on your way soon. rushing to the bathroom mirror, you quickly finger-combed your hair to bring it some form of accordance before following sans down the stairs and to the living room.
as you turned the corner, you noticed pap had put on his 'fancy breakfast apron', as he called it. he was putting the finishing touches on something in the kitchen, but he peeked out to greet you. offering him a look, you scrunched your eyebrows a bit in question to why he was wearing his fancy apron.
'ahh, you noticed!' he grinned. 'todays a very special occasion; we're having company.'
a small wave of nervousness washed over you as the realization that you weren't yet ready for the day and suddenly random people were to be in your house hit- not to mention, you were probably expected to converse with them.
'not to worry, human!' pap had caught a glimpse of your worried expression. 'its just undyne and dr.alphys!'
you couldn't tell if that made it better or worse; on one hand, you knew them quite well, so at least strangers weren't barging in. but on the other hand, you knew them quite well- and you were still in comfy clothes with disheveled hair, which for some reason was almost as bad. before you could protest, a faint knock echoed from the front door, quickly followed by the door nearly being ripped off it's hinges as it was knocked back into the wall, swinging open.

'GOOD MORNING!' a gruff voice rang out from the throat of a tall, familiar, bluish being. 'KID!' undyne's yellow, spikey-toothed grin spanned her entire face as she reached her hand down to ruffle your hair, mussing it up even more than it already was.
alphys peeked in from outside of the doorframe, which seemed to be smoking from the shot it had taken. she flashed a timid smile before stepping inside, gently placing the door back in it's spot.
as you quickly adjusted to the situation, processing all that had happened in such a small span of time, you noticed that both of the guests both donned their comfy clothes; undyne in an oversized sweatshirt over top of red and blue flannel pants, alphys in a pastel onesie covered in little mew mew kissy cutie sprites. papyrus seemed to have planned this, as when you looked back to him, he responded with a slight knowing smile before dipping back into the kitchen.
'nice 'j's!' undyne spoke, needlessly shortening the word 'pjs'.
'dear, th-thats already an abbreviation-' alphys started, but was quickly interrupted by undyne.
'thats what the cool people are saying now!' she said, taking you under her arm into a head lock. 'right, kid?!' you nodded, which seemed to satisfy undyne. she gave you a noogie before letting you go.
you looked to alphys, who rolled her eyes, smiling. a sudden rumble erupted from inside the kitchen. papyrus appeared from the doorframe, soot covering his cheekbones.
'everything's okay!' he smiled, though his eyebrows were tilted up in a frantic position.
sans shook his head, chuckling. 'I better go check on him,' he said before half-running to the area of commotion.
undyne's brow lifted, and she let out a 'fuhuhu' before following suit after sans. this left you and alphys, which brought a bit of a lull before she made eye contact with you. she quickly looked away, then let out a nervous cough, clearing her throat. more silence followed. when she met your gaze once again, you pointed to your own shirt, gesturing at her onesie as well.
'oh my goodness, thats r-right!' her face lit up. 'did you see the new season trailer?!'
you nodded eagerly, relieved that she was getting more comfortable with you once again. the two of you had become very close, bonding due to various anime and manga series you both shared interests in. however, she always seemed a bit reserved at the start of hang outs, almost as though she just needed a little reminder that you two had gotten close over time. you found yourself relating to that, and thought that may be part of why you found it so easy to get along with her; your shared introvertedness.

suddenly, smoke was once again drifting through the air, yet this time not from the door, but the kitchen instead. undyne poked her head out of the kitchen doorframe, an uneasy look weakly concealed by a wide smirk. as she was offering reassurance that everything was fine, and that nothing was wrong, you heard papyrus yell from the kitchen-
'I DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW THE PLATES CAUGHT FIRE, I WAS JUST TRYING TO STACK THE THEM!'
undyne sighed, shaking her head and returning to the situation. alphys laughed before turning back to you. 'I hear mew mew is getting a total glow up.' she half whispered, knowing that you'd immediately see the issue with his. 'which on one hand, could be great for her character development, but could also be so detrimental to the physics of her battle scenes. honestly, how do they expect her to beat villains in something with no flexibility? she needs style AND functionality. this whole new hero arc they have going for her could make or break the entire series- you see, this is the problem with mostly female superheros and their outfits. how, tell me, during all of her battles against multiple villains, did wonder woman not pop a ti-'
she was cut off by a sweat-drenched undyne violently yelling whilst sprinting towards (and then bursting through) the front door, several flaming plates along her arms. there was a brief silence before alphys looked back at you and continued where you had left off.
'-tell me,' she reiterated. 'during all of her battles against multiple villains did wonder woman not pop a ti-'
she was brought to a halt once again by pap's presence at the dining table, setting out paper plates. 'problem solved, nothing to worry about! come take your seats,'
you followed, taking place in your usual seat while alphys sat across the table from you. pap went back to the kitchen, which you assumed was to get silverware. alphys took this as another opportunity to finish her rant.
'as I was saying,' she continued. 'how did wonder woman's top st-'
'wow, those plates really met their match,' sans walked in from the front door, switching his slippers before joining the table. 'I'm even more stoked for breakfast now,'
undyne followed, wiping sweat from her forehead, which in turn left ash all over her face. she grinned, 'yep, those plates are toast.' she, completely serious, shot a look at sans before he could make a joke out of it. She slumped into the chair beside alphys, sans nodding in agreeance.
promptly, papyrus returned with cutlery accompanied by a large cloche. he elegantly set the covered plate on the table while passing out forks and knives. with a relived sigh, he sat next to you.
'dig in,' he said, lifting the cloche and revealing a hefty stack of waffles, along with little bowls of toppings such as strawberries, syrup, raspberries, and chocolate sauce, alongside a plethora of fruits and sauces.
'mango?!' undyne's teeth took up half of her face in a smile. 'aww pap, you know theyre my favourites,'
papyrus seemed to relax a bit more as everyone reached for the bowls he filled with each of their go-to garnishes. he was the last to pick up a waffle, which had to be at least two inches in thickness. he pulled a cup from underneath a smaller cloche that had been hidden amongst the bowls, to which when revealed, held a single portion of spaghetti and meatballs. he flipped the cup onto his waffle, the spaghetti falling on top with a splat. he looked around the table, contented, and begun his breakfast.

Chronicles of Xod (returning from hiatus)
After a long recovery over a chronic motion sickness issue, I feel I'm ready to return to writing this book. It might be slow at first, but I'm hoping to pick up where I left off. I apologize again for the long hiatus. The pages following are a true account. An account of how I, Josh--a teenage nerd from modern suburbia--ended up in a strange world filled with fantastic magic, bizarre creatures, and terrifying dungeons. Despite the troped-up fantasy feel of the world, this is hardly an ordinary tale. For one, don’t expect a happy ending. With the trials I’ve been through, the horrors I’ve seen and the atrocities I’ve committed, believe me when I tell you, this is not a happy tale filled with friendly rainbow bears or teenage flying unicorns. It’s more likely you’ll finish this book mentally scarred as I will not spare the details of my unfortunate adventures. With the help of my trusted companion Gui, I gain an insight that no one else in the world has. This knowledge allows me to exploit and, for lack of a better term, metagame the system which gave me a clear advantage over its residents. “With great power...,” someone might begin to quote to me. In my defense, I think maybe even you, reader, might have acted similarly with how this reality changed my view of good and evil. This story will be updated regularly on Wednesdays around 6 PM. There will only be about 1000 words per update. The focus is to finish the story before doing any major changes or editing. Please read as if this is a work in progress, not a finished product. Feel free to let me know if you see any error, whether glaring or minor. If you help me out, I'll be sure to add you to a thank you list at the front of the book when it is published. Chronicles of Xod is a first-person fantasy novel that follows the adventures of a young man from Earth. Through unknown circumstances, he finds himself in a fantasy world where life is not all wonders and happy endings. The story takes common fantasy concepts from my favorite video games, books and movies and gives them an adult edge. It also introduces some taboo concepts often glossed over by stories written for broad audiences. The style is meant to be immersive and heavily detailed. The short novel will be written in a way that attempts to bring a sense of realism to an unrealistic genre. Where there are realistic consequences and dangers in a world populated with violent monsters, cruel demons, bloodthirsty undead, and immoral bandits. In this fantasy world, the inhabitants are essentially gender blind as far as sexuality is concerned. There is also more variation amongst male and female physiology. This isn't meant to be any kind of promotion or demotion of social behavior in reality. Just a concept I thought would be an interesting idea to have in a fantasy setting. I highly discourage anyone from reading this material if you are personally concerned with being offended or traumatized. Both violent and sexual content will be graphically detailed. All characters involved in sexual scenes are mature and of the age of consent(18+).
