《Wrecked》The 25

"Help us, please!" The scream pierced through the air, jerking all six of us into action. Without even a second of hesitation out legs were pushing us as hard and fast as they possibly could in the direction of the scream.
"PLEASE! SOMEONE HEAR US!" the cry was desperate but weak, like they themselves didn't have much left in them. This alone drove my legs harder, I was frantically pushing aside all the tree and bushes in my arm – it could be another group, or it could be Cara. Either way they needed me and I wasn't going to waste any time.
"I'm coming!" I yelled out hoping that they could hear me and they would stop their yelling to save their energy. "We're all coming, just wait a-" My sentence trailed off when I spotted the six bodies scattered over the clearing before us.
My heart and stomach dropped when I spotted Cara, the girl covered in blood coming from everywhere. Her ear was hidden behind a large slice and a pool of blood, her shoulders both sliced and the blood pouring over onto her shirt, her leg was the worse though. It was bent beyond 90 degrees, I could see a large opening at the back and could see blood pouring out. Before I could make my way to her she screamed out, "Check on them, please! I don't know if they're alive!" He voice was weak, breaking amongst the tears she was letting out.
The first body was Wyatt, after searching for his pulse I was given nothing. I could see four arrows in his chest, but the stab wound near his temple would have been his cause of death. He looked so angry even in death, his face crunched up with a permanent scowl.
Moving to the next ones, the two other girls, there was no pulse there either. They both had multiple arrows scattered over their limbs as well as stab wounds everywhere. The next boy was gone as well but the last one still had a pulse. It was weak but it was there.
"Jeremy? Can you hear me Jeremy." His eyes were closed and I couldn't ignore the large gash that ran from shoulder blade to shoulder blade. I could see his back muscles exposed, could tell he was a long shot- that I didn't have the resources to save him.
"Dru!" the rest of my group had finally reached the clearing, Caila and Jesse running to my side as Vincent, Mason and Emmet ran to Cara. "What can we do?"

"Save Jeremy, please! I can't have him die- not when we're like this. Please, save him!" Cara's pleads came with more tears, her weak frame collapsing against the tree she had perched up on. She was unconscious, she'd used up all her strength and I needed to help her.
"Caila, sanitise this wound and get him some pain med- I have to fix Cara's leg." Rushing over to Cara I turned her over gently, this enabled me to see what I was working with. The gash from the top of her kneecap down to mid calf, It was exposed and flapping out which was allowing dirt and branches to get in it.
Quickly removing my belt I tied it around just above where it started, holding my fingers to her throat to see if this improved her pulse. It did, only slightly, but not enough.
"What can I do?" Jesse was on the opposite side of Cara, his hands full of the alcohol soaked rag as he attempted to clean around it.
"I need you to pull this belt at tight as possibly, I'm going to need to reach in and clot the artery myself." His eyes grew wide but he didn't question me, I knew we needed to act quickly before she lost this leg all together. He replaced my hands as I reached into the wound. My fingers searched for the one I was after and I squeezed down on it. My other fingers on her throat told me that it had worked- her pulse was stabilising. I breathed out a sign of relief, I could fix this and she should be able to keep her leg.
"Help me roll her over." Jesse nodded and pushed her over while I guarded her landing. When we spun her over she let a loud groan out of her lips, clearly uncomfortable. I saw her knee, her kneecap completely out of place. A lump arouse in the back of my throat, I would bet that on of her cruciate ligaments was torn- something I had no chance of fixing.
"I'm going to move this back into place, I need you to make something we can carry her with. I have rope in my bag, just use tree branches or something.' I shot instructions at Mason and Emmet who were stood over me.
"I'm so sorry Cara, this I going to hurt. But everything will be okay- I promise that I'll get you threw this." I began to slowly move her leg so that it was align with her thigh.

"Jeremy..." She mumbled as she stirred in pain.
"Alive, We're looking after him Cara." Jesse answered the girl, soothing her with a lie. Jeremy was very close to death and I know I was being selfish but I couldn't save the both of them.
I began to feel around her knee cap, her quadriceps tendon clearly torn but from what I could feel her patellar tendon was intact. I could work with that.
"I'm sorry Cara." And I did it, snapping her knee cap back into place.
Her screams shook her whole body, Jesse's firm hands ensuring she couldn't move in a way that could do more damage. I reached out for two thick sticks holding them to either side of her knee as I wrapped them into place with a bandage. The blood quickly oozed through it on the back but I didn't have time for that. We needed to get her out of here and away from the smell of dead bodies that was making my stomach churn.
"Kill me now, please." The words came from the boy behind me, Jeremy was mumbling into the dirt. "Tell her I'll always love her."
"Tell her yourself, once you've survived this." I heard Caila comfort him.
"Get me the stretcher." The boys brought over what they had managed to create. It wasn't bad, there wasn't material to use between the branches to hold the body but they'd made it narrow enough that if we placed her on there her body would hang over and thus- stay on. "Place it on the ground here. On three we lift her and place her on it. Me, Jesse and Vincent will carry it. Emmet and Mason you will need to get Jeremy back with Caila. Okay?"
Everyone nodded in agreement. Pushing back the hair that had fallen over my face I took a deep breath before it all began.
"1,2,3-" And everyone did exactly what I had said. Cara groaned in pain as we lifted her but she blacked out pretty quickly. I heard Jeremy's screams of pain behind me but I couldn't even bring myself to look at the boy who I had chosen to be the one what had to die. How much of a monster was I?
It was easy to hold up Cara, the girl had a tiny physique of a gymnast or dancer but I could hear the groans of difficulty coming from the boys behind me. Jeremy was a big boy and so was Emmet, but Mason definitely wasn't.
"This will do." I declared after I spotted a clearing had a red piece of material on it. At least we weren't lost. Placing Cara down gently I asked the boys to start a fire.
"Stay with me Cara, please don't die." I pressed my forehead down onto hers, allowing my fear to surface. I hated being placed in situations like this and my first response was always the sensible, rational one. I wish I could have shown Cara how worried for her I was, instead all I could do was push her boyfriend aside.
"Dru-" the croaky voice startled me and I sat up quickly. That second Jeremy was laid down next to Cara, he was on his front but his face was turned to Cara.
"Jer?" Her voice full of hope and love. She reached her fingers out to hold his face, a smile taking over her lips. "You're alive?"
"No getting ride of me that easy, Mo." He reached up to hold her hand to his face, it pained him to do so but her touch seemed to make everything okay. "I love you so much, Mo, I always will."
"Don't speak like that, like it's goodbye!" Cara grew frantic she tried to roll over to get a better reach at him but I had to stop her. At this point there were tears falling down my face and I could feel myself shaking.
"Goodbye or not, I need you to know that I'm so sorry and that I'll always love you the way I did when I first laid eyes on you." He pressed his lips to her palm, the only part of her he could reach.
"I forgive you, one hundred times over I forgive you. Nancy would have forgiven you too. I love you, Jer, I always will." All three of us were crying as they just held onto each other's hands.
Jeremy's eyes met mine and a small smile was thrown my way. "Protect my girl will you?"
"You can count on that."
With one last smile to Cara his eyes fluttered shut, and they didn't open again.
