《5SOS Sickfics》Cashton- Watch Out
Advertisement
The lads of 5 Seconds Of Summer were in London and they had a night off. So, in true 5SOS fashion, they decided to have a pizza night. Calum and Ashton had volunteered to collected the pizzas from a pizza place Niall from One Direction had recommended them a few months back. They'd gotten there fine and had loaded the 6 pizza boxes in the back seat, driving back towards their hotel.
The light had just turned green and Ashton began driving through the intersection. Suddenly, something smashed into Calum's side of the car, sending the lads flying. A drunk lorry driver had gone through a red light. The lorry kept driving as the car spun and flipped off the road. Nearby drivers were quick to call 999, asking for ambulances.
Inside the car, Ashton was just conscious enough to see that Calum was not in a good position. The car had crumpled in on him, a piece sticking into his abdomen. There was blood everywhere, a mix of his and Calum's. He tried reaching out but he was too weak to move. He could hear the ambulance sirens approaching in the distance and knew he should stay awake for the paramedics but he was just weak. Too weak and too tired. Ashton fell into the land of unconsciousness.
"Son can you hear me?" One paramedic asks, the other lifting Calum onto a stretcher.
Ashton groaned in response letting out a little "hurts" before falling unconscious again.
The doctor lifted Ashton into the ambulance. He heard a phone ring and he found it was Ashton's. He answered it to let whoever it was that rung him about Ashton and Calum's condition.
"Ashton mate where are you we're starving!" Michael exclaimed down the phone.
"Ashton is in an ambulance. Him and his friend were knocked unconscious and they both aren't doing well. The other is doing worse than Ashton though he's having internal bleeding" The doctor explained, receiving a gasp from the other end of the phone.
"That's Calum. We're his bandmates, we'll inform Ashton and Calum's parents and we will be right at the hospital" Michael said before ending the phone call.
"Who was that?" Luke asked, a face of worry forming.
"The hospital, Ashton and Calum were in a car crash" Michael told him. Luke gasped and the two went down to the hospital.
Ashton groaned as he woke up. Everything hurt. He tried to remember what had happened, why he was like this. All he could remember was driving his car with a tan boy next to him and a crash. He remembered seeing blood. He didn't know who the boy was or how he knew him. All he knew is that he was Ashton Fletcher Irwin, he was 22 years old and his body hurt.
He opened his eyes, hissing at the bright white of the room around him. He tried moving his arms up to cover his eyes but they wouldn't move. He tried again but it didn't work. He tried moving his legs but they wouldn't move either. He closed his eyes for a minute before opening them again, more used to the bright light of the room. He lifted his head up, it seemed to be the only thing he could do.
He looked down at his arms and legs. There was nothing holding them down, no straps, no weights, nothing. He tried moving them again but it was no use. He looked around the room and almost jumped when he saw two males, both about his age, maybe younger, sitting to the right of his bed. One of them had blonde hair and looked to be quite tall. He was resting his head on the other's shoulder. The other one had dark purple hair and was extremely pale.

Ashton tried to figure out who the two boys were, but nothing came to mind. His mind drew a blank on anything other than the tan boy. He hoped that the tan boy was okay. He definitely didn't look okay in the car. Ashton tried to figure out what he could do. The obvious thing was to wake up the two boys, but he didn't want them to be mad at him. After a few minutes of deliberation, Ashton decided to wake them up.
"Hello? Excuse me?" Ashton called. The purple haired one begin to stir so he repeated the same questions again, louder this time. Soon the boy was awake and looking around, trying to figure out what had woken him.
"Um, hi." Ashton said. The boy's eyes snapped to his and a smile grew on the purple haired boy's face.
"Ashton! Oh my god you're awake. You have no idea how worried we were." Michael started but Ashton cut him off.
"Umm, this might be an awkward question but, who are you?" Ashton asked. The boy's face dropped.
"Y-you don't remember, who we- who we a-are?" Michael stuttered in his words.
"No, I'm sorry if I am meant to." Ashton apologised, and Michael felt like his heart would give up on him.
"Can I ask something? Who's that guy other there?" Ashton asked, eyes flickering to the blonde boy, who was yet to awaken.
"That's Luke. I'm Michael. We're.. umm.. we're your bandmates." Michael answered, looking at the ground.
"Oh. I'm sorry." Ashton mumbled, resting his head back on the pillow. "What is our band called?"
"5 Seconds Of Summer" Michael answered for his bandmate.
"That's such a good name. What's your job in the band?" Ashton asked
"I play guitar and so does Luke. You play drums" Michael replied.
"Wow. It will take me such a long time to remember how to play them again" Ashton said and Michael chuckled. "You don't have to learn them all over again. You might be able to remember how to play them and all our songs in about a year or so"
"I want to hear one of our songs" Ashton said and Michael got out his phone. "We made a song called Amnesia. Here, have a listen" Michael said and Ashton took his phone and memorised the words.
"That's so good. We actually made that? And I guess the drumming was me?" Ashton asked, handing Michael his phone back.
"Yeah we actually made that. And the drumming was you. You're so good at drums you know" Michael answered for his bandmate.
"Wow. How successful were we?" Ashton asked as he laid his head back on the pillow.
"Well, we did sell out Wembley Arena a few years back." Michael laughed. Ashton's head bolted back up, eyes wide.
"Are you serious?" Ashton exclaimed, shocked.
"Yeah." Michael chuckled.
"Wow." Ashton breathed. It was silent for a minute before Ashton's mind went back to the tan boy.
"Umm.. when I crashed, well, there was a tan boy with black hair. Do you know him?" Ashton asked. Michael's face dropped slightly, changing to one of sympathy.
"That's Calum. He was our bassist." Michael told him. Luke began to shift in his seat and soon, his eyes were open, looking at Ashton in amazement.
"Ashton! You're awake!" Luke gasped. He then looked at Michael. "Why didn't you wake me? You promised you'd wake me!"

"He doesn't remember us." Michael deadpanned, not answering Luke's question.
"WHAT!?" Luke boomed. He looked at Ashton. "You don't know who we are?"
"No. Other than your names and the fact that we are in a band, which Michael told me, nothing." Ashton said. Luke's eyes went to the floor.
"Oh, okay." Luke muttered. "The doctors thought you might have Amnesia."
"What else did the doctors say?" Ashton asked, curious.
"You're paralyzed from the neck down and you were in a coma." Michael answered. Ashton nodded, that's why he couldn't move.
"Erm, you said Calum was our bassist. What do you mean by that?" Ashton asked.
*FLASHBACK*
"DoyouknowaboutAshtonIrwinandCalumHood?" Luke rushed in one big breath as he ran up to the lady at the reception.
"Do you mind saying that again? I didn't quite get what you said" The receptionist asked.
"I said if..." Luke began before he broke down into tears.
"We want to know if you know about Ashton Irwin and Calum Hood" Michael answered for Luke as he put an arm around his crying bandmate.
"Ah yes, they are both in critical conditions but one is worse than the other. We will update you on both of them later so if you just want to take a seat we will call you back when you can see them" The receptionist informed the two boys in front of her.
"Ok thanks" Michael muttered before dragging himself and Luke to the ever-so uncomfortable waiting room chairs. The boys were waiting for an hour and Luke had managed to calm down, but he was still so scared for his two bandmates in critical condition. A doctor came out to inform them about Ashton.
"Are you the two here for Ashton Irwin?" The doctor asked, standing in front of the boys.
"Yes we are" Michael answered for the both of them and the doctor continues.
"Ok, so Ashton is paralyzed from the neck down so he can't move. He hasn't yet woken up but you can still see him" The doctor stated.
"Ok so can we see him now?" Luke asked, coming out from behind Michael.
"Yes, and we also think he has temporary Amnesia." The doctor added and Michael looked down at the floor, shifting his feet against the ground. He started to feel guilty for not being with his two bandmates and wishing it was him in the car crash and him being paralyzed with temporary Amnesia instead of Ashton.
He kept muttering "I wish it was me in the car crash" over and over and Luke having to comfort him and tell him to not think like that. Another doctor came out asking for relatives of Calum.
"Are you the two here for Calum Hood?" He asked and Luke answered for the both of them this time.
"Ok, so, as you already know, Calum is doing much worse than Ashton. He had a lot of internal bleeding and he had a huge amount of blood loss, and..." The doctor paused, before Luke motioned for him to continue.
"We're sorry boys, but, Calum's heartbeat has stopped. It was slowly fading away in the ambulance. We tried everything we could but he didn't make it through" The doctor finished.
"So he's dead?" Luke asked, letting a few tears flip.
"Yes we're sorry boys. But you can go see him and say your final goodbye's to him" The doctor lamented, letting a few tears slip himself. Luke and Michael had already heard everything. They didn't know how they would be able to continue with Calum having being dead, and Ashton being paralyzed with amnesia. They broke down into hysterics and were a crying mess.
It was about 5 minutes were calm enough to say their goodbyes to Calum so they followed the doctor's back to the room he was in and they both walked over to Calum's lifeless body. They both had so memory memories and they both had speeches they wanted to say. Luke went first, Michael sitting in the chair at his side.
"Calum, we're sorry. You didn't deserve any of this. You deserve to be at home with us, eating the beautiful pizzas you and Ashton had picked up. We shouldn't have sent you to get the pizzas, it should have been me and Mike and we should be in yours and Ashton's positions and you should be alive but then that would be bad because you would feel guilty like we do and then you would want to be dead instead of us but you couldn't be and you'd feel hopeless and bad and I-I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry!" Luke cried, dissolving into tears. Michael patted him on the back and decided to take over.
"As Luke said, we are sorry that you are in that position. You didn't deserve it but there is nothing we can do now to change it. Just know that we love you and if we could change it, we'd do everything in our power to. I know you wouldn't want us to mourn you for too long so after the funeral we'll figure something out. We won't let this stop 5 Seconds Of Summer. We won't be replacing you, we'll embrace the changes to the band and we'll rock out again, once Ashton remembers of course." Michael let out a sad chuckle before continuing.
"Please don't forget us, we know we will never forget you. We love you." Michael ended, standing up with Luke and leaving the room. The doctor was waiting outside for the two.
"Will Ashton be able to say goodbye to him?" Luke asked.
"Unfortunately, we are not able to keep the body for longer than 24 hours and your friend is not expected to wake up before then." The doctor replied and the boys nodded, not bothering to protest. They were taken to see Ashton and they sat in chairs next to his bed. They slept at the hospital for 3 days waiting for Ashton to wake up, but it was worth it as they still had Ashton and he managed to survive the dreadful crash.
*END OF FLASHBACK*
"He-he's gone?" Ashton wimpered, the other two nodded, confirming his observation.
"Yeah, we're sorry." Luke lamented.
"He's all I remember and I can't even say a proper goodbye." Ashton wailed, tears spilling down his face. Michael and Luke didn't know what to do other than pull Ash into a hug, so that's what they did. The three spent 15 minutes hugging, tears streaming down their faces in memory of their late bandmate. When they pulled away, Ashton spoke.
"He's in a better place now."
