《The Bookworm {Jasper X Reader}》The Past

The days, after Steven and Garnet found out, were quite calm. Garnet didn't tell anybody, she just gave you a thumbs up every time she saw the two of you together. Steven, on the other hand, was far less subtle. He always asked you when you were going to come out as a couple and threw looks full of expectations at you. You were certain that other gems started getting a bit suspicious, but none of them said anything yet.
That particular day you and Jasper were walking on the boardwalk, just talking. The sun was covered by white puffy clouds and a pleasant breeze was blowing from the ocean. You just had her try some fries and now you were munching on them.
"Jaspy?"
"Hmmmm?"
"I was thinking..." you looked up at her and she returned your gaze, looking curious. "I think we should tell the others..."
"What? Right now?" she asked as she shoved another handful of fries into her mouth.
"No, of course not! But we should, in the near future I mean." you smiled softly "I think they deserve to know."
Jasper shrugged "In my opinion, it's none of their bussiness. But I guess if they just barged in like Steven did, we would need to explain the situation all over again."
You chuckled and nodded "Yeah, I guess so. I love you Jasp."
"I love you t-"
"Jasper!"
You both jumped a bit and turned around. You wouldn't be more surprised if one of the Diamonds stood there.
Lapis Lazuli.
You frowned and crossed your arms on your chest.
What is she doing here?! When we were at the beach just a few days ago, she didn't even bother to talk to her. And now she's just casually walking up to her, like it's no big deal?

You looked up at your lover and you saw she's just as confused as you.
"Hi... Lapis." she said and you just muttered a simple hello.
"Jasper, I need to talk to you."
"About what?" she asked, her voice sounding puzzled.
"About us."
"About... us? What are you talking about?" she mumbled, her brows furrowing in confusion.
You just stood there, staring wide-eyed at the blue gem, your fists lightly clenched. You didn't like one bit where this was going.
"About what we used to have, when we were... you know... Malachite."
Jasper flinched at the mention of that name.
"What more is there to be said?" her voice was relatively calm, despite the topic at hand. Her eyes, however, threw daggers "It was unhealthy and toxic. For the both of us. You said that yourself. And I've since came to that conclusion too."
It was Lapis' turn to flinch. She shook her head a mustered up a small smile.
"Well, I was thinking it over. I had a reason to hate you then! Now I don't! We could... we could try it out one more time!"
You realised you were holding your breath this whole time, so you shakily let it go. You grew more and more worried by the second.
"Lapis, look... I know that I said I liked it. But that was just me being power-hungry. Now I have more valuable things to go after."
Jasper threw a subtle look at you and just the barest hint of a smile.
"Oh? Is that so? What changed? What made you make this realization? I am not that bad as you think! Can't you forgive me?"
At this point, you could see Jasper's muscles tense up and her hands go into fists.

"Forgive you?!" she let out a small, hurt chuckle "You may not realise it, but you did something far, far worse than just leting your anger out on me in Malachite."
"Oh, what did I do so bad?"
"I got corrupted! And it was partially because of you, Lapis! That rejection at the sea? I pleaded on my knees! But what did you do? You convinced that Quartz boy you were this innocent angel, while you were in fact the one holding Malachite together." she was walking towards Lapis now, who had a fearful look on her face "I spent so many freaking months in that bubble! In that horrible, agonizing, corrupted mind!"
She was yelling now, at the top of her lungs. You tried to hold her arm, to calm her down, but she shook you off.
"And then... then something good happened to me for once. I met someone else. Someone so much better than you."
"What?! Who?!?" Lapis choked out.
"Her."
With that, Jasper took the hand she shook off before. You and Lapis both had an expression of shock on your faces.
Then Lapis' face changed from tearful to furious, looking at you.
