Chapter One: The King's Return

Melanie looked up at her King. Her husband. Her lover. Her master. Five decades had gone by and in no short time. The first five years had been the hardest. Every day she had spent hours in the basement, locked away with Lucian. His inanimate body, frozen inside a crystalline coffin that Melanie had created. Though she had never been able to replicate it since.

By the time a decade had passed she truly had ascended to her role, though she still spent at least an hour a day in the basement talking to Lucian, hoping that he could hear her. Having taken over the ruling of the kingdom, her loneliness had gotten a little less heavy. Her mind had switched from servant to ruler.

However, as soon as her body was washed over with the aura of her lover and master, every submissive instinct came rushing back at her.

"My lord." Melanie breathed out, touching the collar that was around her neck.

The collar that he had placed on her, fifty years prior. As the tips of her fingers touched it, she could feel the essence running through it. The divine connection that bound them together was exactly as it had been. Lucian smiled down at her. Tears welled up in his garnet eyes and he scooped her up, happy to feel her embrace.

Melanie squeezed him hard. Her supernatural embrace could have broken bones and cracked rocks. Lucian didn't care. So long as he felt her, that was all that mattered. Melanie's tears flowed like a river as she pulled him in tight.

"Tell me...this isn't...a dream." She whispered between breaths, refraining from crying.

"This is no dream." He replied, voice deep and smooth as melted caramel. "I am with you. I will always be with you. No matter where we go. I will always return."
