《A Silent Lover》13. TaekWoon

The Jellyfish entertainment building loomed above me as I stood in front of it, but there were no accompanying feelings of trepidation despite the reason that I was here. It felt too much like home after almost eight years of being inside it. My life had changed because of the people inside and I couldn't be more grateful that they had chosen me out of so many others.
Despite the world of K-pop having a dark underbelly full of money hungry CEOs and companies only interested in their bottom line, Jellyfish genuinely cared about its idols. And in the case of myself, they hadn't pushed me to be someone I wasn't.
Being shy and quiet just wasn't conducive to an idol lifestyle and our livelihoods depended on doing certain things for our fans, acting in ways that I wasn't wired to act. And while I knew of other idols who had pushed their own personalities aside for the sake of fame, my company hadn't made me do the same.
In some ways I was more grateful for that than anything else they had done for me. It was with a complete understanding that I may have been about to irrevocably hinder my career, that I walked into the building and rode the elevator up to the top floor. I addressed the secretary there and asked to speak with Hwang SeiJun, the CEO of my company.
Hwang SeiJun was a kind faced man, his glasses giving him a fatherly air to his expression when he smiled. And as the laugh lines around his eyes and mouth attested, he smiled often. My heart beat picked up its pace as he greeted me with one of his smiles and I gave him a hesitant one in return. I glanced around his office in nervousness as I sat down in the large leather chair across him, my body immediately enveloped in the cushiony material.
"Jung TaekWoon, it's good to see you. Come and sit down! Congratulations on Vixx's latest win. You boys did a wonderful job; have you seen all the nominations for the Bongsang? I'm very proud of you all."
"Thank you Sajangnim, we'll continue to work hard."
I took a deep breath, letting the air escape past my lips slowly. I worked up the courage to say what I needed to, repeating the words internally one last time as I bit my bottom lip into submission.
"So, what can I do for you TaekWoon-ah. I know you didn't come here just to hear me compliment you."
His smile lingers around his mouth even though his tone has turned serious and I feel myself calming as he talks, my heart beat returning to normal.
"Honestly, it's something that's happened recently. I guess there's no real delicate way to say this, so I'll just say it... I've gotten married."

Shock was clear on my Sajangnim's face and I quickly continued talking.
"I know it was kind of a rush but I'm fully ready to take responsibility for my actions. I know that this might hurt my career but I felt that this girl was special. I didn't want to let her go."
My CEO stared at me for a long time and neither of us spoke. I fidgeted in my seat under his intense gaze, uncomfortable with his full attention on me. Finally, after some long minutes he spoke quietly.
"You know, if this had been any one of your other members telling me they'd gotten married, I may have questioned their decision." He smiled at me finally and I breathed a sigh of relief.
"But as for you TaekWoon, I've known very few people like you. Your determination is something that I saw in you from the beginning. And anyone willing to interrupt a successful sunbae on national TV to ask for a second chance to sing was bound to go after what he wants. There would've been no stopping you if love was involved."
Sajangnim gave a loud chuckle at his own joke while I felt my face get hot and I bent my head in an instinctive response, weakly protesting his embarrassing words. The MyDol progress checks held on television were still a source of embarrassment for me to this day. But he hadn't been wrong about my feelings for Imani.
"You boys have all grown up so much. I suppose I should have expected this."
He rested his hands on the table and leaned forward towards me with an eager look on his face.
"So, what did your lady say when she found out you were an idol? I bet she was shocked huh," Sajangnim chuckled.
I stared at my CEO then, his own question voicing a matter that had taken up most of my thoughts since my marriage. I sat up straighter in the chair, my ease fading.
"I haven't exactly told her yet," I replied evasively. My CEO sucked his teeth in a sharp response, his face turned stern.
"TaekWoon, you realize that not telling your wife who you are puts her at risk. Even though I've yet to see Starlights reach the same level as saesangs, that doesn't mean that they aren't out there or that it won't happen once it becomes public knowledge that you've married. Unless you'd planned on keeping it secret."
"I hadn't, not really. But I wasn't going to publicize it either," I said with embarrassment.
"So then, what exactly are you going to do when the fans find out TaekWoon? And it's not if they find out, they will. She could be in danger."

"I know, and that's why I have a plan." I leaned in closer to the CEO and told him of all the things that I had begun to put in place.
I walked into dorm right after my meeting with the CEO, slightly drained but feeling happy that my marriage and all my decisions had been accepted. My members were all situated around the large flat screen TV, a recent addition to our dorm room following our last win. As a group, we had decided that we no longer needed to abstain from TV watching to razor focus on our careers. Now we did it on instinct, fed on our driving will to do well. Having a little TV break wouldn't ruin it.
I shut the door loudly behind me to get their attention, their little jumps of surprise making me smile as they turned to face the noise.
"I have an announcement," I told them all with a dazzling smile on my face, excitement coursing through me.
"If it's about that new coffee shop opening up down the street, we don't care," N said with barely a glance in my direction.
My smile turned into a frown as I walked to the front of the room. Grabbing the remote from Ravi, I turned the television off to the groans of the others. Hyuk flopped down onto his stomach in irritation, Ken let out a heavy sigh. Maybe the TV was a bad idea after all.
"I said have an announcement," I repeated, this time glaring at everyone in turn.
Their eyes finally met mine and I felt the smile come back to my face.
"Neohuideul, guess what? I just got married." I flashed them the black ring that was currently on my ring finger, courtesy of the wedding hall Imani and I had gone to. They really did have everything there, including a jewelry store. As I looked from one member to another, all of their faces registered shock. Happy that it had gone over so well, I began walking to my room.
"Yah! Wait a minute, where are you going?" N pulled me back by the arm, and stood in front of me disbelief lining his features.
"You got married! Jung TaekWoon you got married and you didn't tell me?! I thought you and I were best friends. You're supposed to tell me everything first!" HakYeon's fists hit my shoulder in his frustration and I rolled my eyes at his display.
"Why should I have to?" I asked him in a level tone trying to hide the smirk that formed on my lips as his face fell.
It was so fun to tease N, mostly because he got himself worked up over the littlest things, especially when it came to our relationship with each other and our members.
I left him standing in the living room with the other four and went to my own room, shutting the door behind me. But it didn't stay shut long as all the guys came barging in only seconds later. I let out a sigh at their intrusion, but opened up my closet and grabbed my suit case, putting it on the bed. I started making a mental list of the things I would need to take with me, and started folding my clothes into neat piles.
"Why are you packing your things?!" HakYeon's voice shrilled in my ear, causing me to wince and move away.
"I'm moving some of my stuff to Imani's place. Relax."
"Relax! How can I relax when you're moving out? How will I live? Who will I talk to?" he wailed.
I shook my head in annoyance. "There are four other people living here Yeonnie, stop being dramatic."
"Yeah hyung, what are we, animals?" Ken pouted behind Ravi in the doorway.
HakYeon waved his hand in Ken's general direction, a dismissing gesture if I'd ever seen one.
"Well, you might as well be. As for the rest of you, you're just uninteresting."
"Huh! I'm amazing, I don't know what the hell you're talking about," JaeHwan scoffed.
"Hyung, since you're leaving can I have your room?" Hyuk pounced on my bed, disrupting the folded clothes I'd laid there. "I've always liked the view from your window."
"No way! I'm older, I should get it," HongBin spoke up, pushing Hyuk playfully aside and scattering my clothes onto the floor.
"Hyung, who do you want to have it?" Hyuk said with a winning smile in my direction. HongBin flashed his dimples and batted his lashes, trying to outdo the maknae.
I shot them both a quelling look and snatched my clothes from off the floor.
"Firstly, you're both idiots. Secondly no one's getting my room. I'm not leaving for good, so you can all just back off."
"Just tell me that you won't leave forever; I'd be so lonely." Tears seemed to be welling up in N's eyes and suddenly I was feeling grossed out.
"What the hell HakYeon, quit watching so many dramas!" I pushed him and the others out of my room, irritation replacing my earlier happier mood. As I leaned my head against the closed door, I felt a smile curve my lips. Soon my new roommate would be Imani and there was little doubt that she'd be way more fun than all of the guys combined.
