“This is where we’re staying?” I gasp looking up at this magnificent hotel.
“Yea …come on let’s check in.” Dan smiled
Considering it had been a bitch of a nine hour flight it was only two in the afternoon here with the time difference, but we were both surprisingly awake.
Once we had checked in, we made our way up to our room to drop our luggage off, freshen up before exploring. Linking our fingers together we set off from our hotel and headed towards the empire state building. In the lift on the way up made me feel so queasy, it was so high...1,050 feet to be precise. Stepping out onto the 86th-floor observation took my breath away. You could literally see for miles and miles it was amazing. Spotting the iconic places in Manhattan from this height was fun, Macy’s, Central Park, Statue of Liberty, the Brooklyn Bridge. We took a few photos and asked someone passing by if they could take one of us together. After a while we made our way back down and wandered around before going to a small restaurant for dinner. By the time we were going to order dessert we were knackered. They say to jump in with the time zone to stop jet lag but I couldn’t stay awake for much longer…eight o clock was my deadline. We jumped in a yellow cab back to the hotel, quickly stripped to our underwear and crashed out, exhaustion taking over.
We woke up on our own the next morning letting our bodies take the much needed rest. To my surprise it was only nine thirty so we got dressed quickly and made our way down for breakfast. Dan stuffed his face with pancakes, muffins, waffles, everything…he made the most of the buffet breakfast. I got myself some beans on toast…definitely a new craving of mine and I was enjoying it. Going back up to get dressed we once again made our way out into the city. I loved being a little tourist and Dan was more than willing to accompany me to the places I wanted to go. Heading back into time square we spent some time shopping. Going into M&M world was amazing but I refused to buy anything so early into our holiday, telling a pouting Dan we would definitely return to buy something before we went home. Next few hours we spent in Madame Tussauds having our pictures taken with all the waxworks in there before having lunch. We spotted the naked cowboy in his tiny white pants singing away before popping into Toys ‘R’ Us to see if there actually was a Ferris wheel inside and there was.
The next two days we did a lot of the same things, going to Grand Central Station and The Met Museum. I woke up on New Year’s Eve so excited, I actually couldn’t wait to spend New Year in Times Square. It was something I’d always wanted to do. Calling room service for breakfast today, we didn’t want to leave the hotel room.
“I swear I’m gona be so fat after this trip.” Dan laughed laying flat on his back rubbing his stomach…which was still toned as anything.
“You, fat?” I laughed
“I didn’t think the Americans ate this much. I know I can eat but wow.”
“It’s America Dan…everything here is bigger.” I giggled.
“Okay, I have all of today and tonight planned so you can’t be asking me questions and stuff. You just have to go with it.”
“Fine.” I grinned I was so excited.

Getting out of bed I headed for the bathroom, letting my top and shorts fall to the floor. I walked in and turned on the shower allowing it to warm up.
I was just about to get in when two warm hands drifted around my waist. “Hey handsome.”
“Baby you have no idea how sexy that was watching you strip off like that.”
“I didn’t do anything.” I laughed turning in his arms and realising he was naked as well.
“Oh baby…you did.” He grinned leaning in to kiss me. Wrapping my arms around his neck, I pulled my body closer to his. His arms wrapped under my legs effortlessly, lifting me up onto the side unit. I tangled my legs around his waist bring us closer, his lips leaving hot kisses down my jaw line and neck as he slowly pushed himself into me. Bringing our lips back together, Dan secured his arms around me, his hands clamped to my thighs as he carried me into the shower where we continued. The hot water pelting down on our bodies. Finishing up, I placed my feet back on the floor before pulling Dan in close for a slow kiss.
“I love you.” I whisper smiling at him
“I love you more.”
Washing our hair and each other down we eventually made it out the shower. Wrapping ourselves in huge towels to dry off before putting on the complimentary dressing gowns.
Getting dressed I was told to dress comfortably as we wouldn’t be returning till later.
*Dan POV*
I had wanted us to go Ice-Skating on Wollman Rink in Central Park but as Liv’s pregnant we can’t. “Come on .” I smiled taking her hand as I helped her onto the horse and cart I had hired for the afternoon.
“Dan you are so romantic.” She gushed leaning into me as we were taken around the park.
The snow here was everywhere so it was slow and steady. It hadn’t snowed much since we had been here but I wanted it to…it would be perfect. After our trip was over, we had lunch in a small café in the park. Spending the rest of the afternoon just walking around together was perfect. It didn’t matter that we weren’t doing anything in particular; we were together in New York that was all that mattered. I checked my watch...four thirty.
“Baby you ready to go?” I ask
“We going back to the hotel?” she replied
“No , I’ve got a surprise in store.” I stupidly smiled at her
“Okay.”
I had got my directions from the hotel concierge this morning, making sure I wouldn’t get us lost.
“Where we going?” she asked
“You’ll soon see.”
As we got closer her eyes opened and a big smile came across her face. “Are we going on this?”
“Brooklyn Bridge yea .”
We made our way up to the middle, it took a while but it was worth it. You could see New York from a completely different view. I checked my watch…five forty five. It was time.
“Tink.”
“Yea …” she smiled turning around.
“It’s almost midnight back home, shall we text Luke and Evie wishing them a happy new year?”
“Ahh yes.”
Standing behind her at the bridge she got her phone out as I wrapped my arms around her stomach.

Putting her phone in her bag, I pulled her in close. “You want to do the London countdown?”
“Yea.” She grinned as I uploaded quickly the BBC News on my iphone, just in time.
“10..9..8..7..6..5..4..3..2..1..HAPPY NEW YEAR” we both say to each other before I pulled her into a kiss. I could hear the fireworks going off on my phone, it was like we were there.
“Happy New Year baby.” She whispered stroking my cheek
“Happy New Year Tink.” I grinned. Stepping back slightly I took her left hand in mine and bent down on one knee.
“Oh my god.” She gasped. I could see the tears in her eyes as she realised what was happening.
Pulling the red velvet box from my coat pocket I nervously opened it and then it began to snow.
“Perfect timing.” I smiled and she nodded as snowflakes began to fall over us.
*Liv POV*
I couldn’t believe this was happening…here in New York…New Years Eve and it was snowing.
My heart was beating so fast right now, I felt sick, but excited and giddy at the same time. As Dan opened up the red box to reveal the most gorgeous ring I could imagine. It was just a simple diamond ring on a platinum band but it was perfect.
“Baby, I love you with all my heart. I cannot imagine spending one second of my life without you, these past seven months with you have honestly been the best of my life because I have had you by my side. I know we’ve had our troubles and no doubt we will have more to come but I know we can face anything together. Tink I have wanted to be with you since we were fourteen years old. You are my best friend, girlfriend and soul mate wrapped up into one amazing woman and now you are having my baby. I couldn’t be happier. You have made me the happiest man on this planet. Tink I love you so much, please do the honour of becoming my wife. Will you marry me?” Dan says so softly to me, the whole time rubbing his thumb over my hand.
We had quite a gathering of people watching us now, waiting to see my answer.
“Yes. YES. YES. YES.” I shouted pulling him up and kissing him with everything I had.
“I love you so much Dan.” I cried pulling away slightly before kissing him again.
“I love you more baby girl.” He smiled. Taking my hand again, he slipped off my glove and very gently placed my engagement ring on my finger.
“Congratulations.” Everyone shouted, clapping and cheering us.
“Thank you.” I blushed leaning into Dan and admiring my ring.
“Excuse me.” A young woman smiled.
“Yea.” Dan replied
“I was wondering if you wanted the video of that? My daughter was recording the cars passing when you went down on one knee and recorded you proposing.” She smiled
“Oh wow that would be amazing, thank you.”
Swopping emails with this perfect stranger she promised to forward it on when she got home.
“Thank you so much.” I smiled hugging her
“No problem. Congratulations to you both, have a wonderful life together.”
We began walking back down the bridge our fingers tightly locked together. The snow still falling on us. “You ready for round two of New Year.” Dan laughed as we came to the end of the bridge.
“Yes.” I grinned leaning in to kiss him.
“I love you so much Tink.”
“I love you more Dan”
We made our way back to Times Square to where thousands of people were waiting. As our hotel was close we popped back inside.
Sitting on the bed I couldn’t help but stare at my ring. Dan came over lying me down and getting on top of me. “I told you when I made that promise, the next ring I’d give you was an engagement one.”
“Seems so long ago.” I smiled bringing my promise ring to my face before wrapping my arms around his neck.
Soon enough our kisses began getting hotter and our clothes were being shed. “Make love to me Mr. Sutton” I grinned as we got under the quilt.
“Gladly Mrs. Sutton.” He smiled before kissing me.
Moments later I felt him push himself slowly into me as we consummated our engagament. We had yet to tell our families but as it was the middle of the night back home, they could wait till tomorrow. Right now I was enjoying being with my boy before we celebrated New Year in Times Square.

All wrapped up and ready to brace the cold weather, Dan and I walked out of the hotel restaurant and towards Times Square. It was half eight and the place was packed, thousands of people were here, the atmosphere was buzzing. Making our way through the crowd was a big effort but I wanted to get as close as we could to the front. Standing next to some railings, Dan curled his arms around me from behind.
“Best New Year ever.” I heard him whisper and I nodded, turning my head to kiss him.
“Already starting the New Year are we?” We heard a woman say causing us to pull away from one another. She was stood the other side of the railing with a camera and a huge fluffy microphone.
“‘Yea…” I giggled, “We began at six.”
“Six hours early.” She laughed
“Well we’re from the UK and had a little celebration on Brooklyn Bridge as we watched the fireworks from home online.”
“Aww that’s so sweet.” She smiled
“Just a little celebration?” Dan gasped
“Okay a big celebration.” I grinned and the woman looked at us curiously
I looked back at her and smiled, “We’ve just got engaged.”
“Oh my god wow, congratulations.” She smiled clapping as did everyone around us.
“Thank you.” We both grinned before Dan kissed me on the cheek.
“Do you mind if we come speak to you later once we’re on live?”
“No of course not.” I smile and she walks off to talk to another couple.
The music was blasting away and everyone was in high spirts. As the hours passed we began talking to a few people stood around us, a couple from LA had flown across the country to see the ball drop, with another couple from France. A large group of ladies from Ireland on a Hen party were keeping everyone entertained. Times Square isn’t called the crossroad of the world for no reason. As the evening drew on we were lucky that the snow wasn’t falling too heavy, just a light flutter throughout the sky.
Dan had disappeared for about half an hour to go get us a hot drink or something to keep us warm. I refused to move an inch knowing I’d get lost and a whole rescue party would have to come find me. After what felt like an eternity Dan popped back up holding a bag and two large metal cups.
“What the hell did you buy?” I laugh
“Two large hot chocolates and some munch for us.” He grinned
Peaking in the bag to see what could satisfy my hunger…or rather cravings.
“Any strawberries?”
“Sorry , but I got you these?” he smiled pulling out a packet of haribo strawbs
“Aren’t you a cutey.”
“Well I try”
It was not fifteen minutes till midnight and the atmosphere was just wow. Everyone was happy and smiling, just enjoying being here together. Anne (The Interviewer) came back over with her crew to speak to Dan and I, I left Dan to speak to them about the proposal as I stood there and smiled up at him.
“Can we see the ring, I’m sure everyone would love to see it.” Anne asked
I took off my glove and held my hand out for her to see. “It’s gorgeous.” She smiled and I nodded in agreement.
“Well from everyone here in Times Square, everyone at NBC and at home we wish you both a huge congratulations and a wonderful life together. How’s everything over with you Jess.” Anne smiled into the camera as Dan pulled me into a kiss causing everyone to ‘awww’ around us.
“Thanks guys” she smiled walking off.
“We’re on TV.” I laughed and Dan rolled his eyes at me.
It was now five minutes to go and Imagine by John Lennon had began to play. It was an amazing moment to be part of everyone was singing along, you could barely hear the music.
The song ended and everyone began staring up at the giant screens surrounding the square, as we watched the replica ball get pushed down and the countdown to midnight began from 60. Slowly the giant ball began to descend down the pole as the clocked ticked down. The excitement inside me was unreal, this was a dream come true being here in Times Square on New Years Eve, being here with Dan just made it perfect.
“10..9..8..7..6..5..4..3..2..1..HAPPY NEW YEAR”
The ball had disappeared below the screen and the fireworks exploded over the city as we were showered in confetti. I wrapped my arms securely around Dan’s neck pulling him in close for a kiss. Lost in our own world as the ever so familiar song of ‘auld lang syne’ began to play, changing quickly to Frank Sinatra ‘New York New York’.
“I love you Tink.” Dan whispered against my lips.
“I love you too” I replied before kissing him again.
Once again we were collared by another interview woman called Emma for ABC, “So I hear you two got engaged tonight.”
“Yes. It’s been an amazing night.” Dan grinned
“Dream come true.”
“Well congratulations from everyone here at ABC, any plans for the new year?”
“Thank you.” I grinned “Well just waiting on the birth of our first child actually.” I reply placing my hands on my stomach.
“Oh wow double congratulations. Have an amazing year.” She smiled
We spoke for a few more seconds before she moved onto the group of Irish ladies next to us.
After about half an hour we made our way back through the crowd and back to our hotel to sleep. It had been the most amazing day, I actually didn’t want to go to sleep for the sheer fact I was so happy I didn’t want this day to be over.
“Let’s get some sleep , more places to go and things to see tomorrow.” Dan whispered as I turned to face him.
“I’m too happy to sleep.”
“Me too . Best day of my life”
“How did I manage to get lucky with a guy like you hey?” I asked gently stroking my hand over his face.
“I’m the lucky one here baby.” He smiled leaning in to kiss me sweetly.
“I guess we’re both lucky then.”
“Absolutely.”
I kissed him once more before resting my head on his chest and closing my eyes. New York really was the place where dreams came true.
