Aderi was sleeping when she was woken up by the door opening and then slamming.
"You, wake up!" Her father said, Aderi opened her eyes to look at her father before closing her eyes again.
"You brat, I said to wake up!" Her father said as he walked closer to Aderi.
"What do you want now, father?" Aderi asked but she said the 'father' part sarcastically.
"You!--" her father said as he lift his hands to slap Aderi, but someone cleared their throat making Aderi's father stop.
"Duke Callista, what did the duke and duchess Lacita say about hitting the lady?" Someone asked, Aderi opened her eyes and saw a man in the doorway. Aderi's father sighed in frustration before crossing his arms. Aderi sat up and looked at the man.
"Good morning m'lady, sorry to bother your sleep," the man in the doorway said as he bowed to Aderi. Aderi waved her hand and shook her head.
"It's alright, you may lift your head," Aderi said with a gentle smile, a 'tsk' can be heard from Aderi's father. But she chooses to ignore her father's rude remarks.
"You might not know me since I'm the new butler of the Lacita family, my father retired a few days ago and I'm inheriting my father's title as the butler." the man in the doorway said.
"Allow me to formally address myself, m'lady. I am Luke John Ortiz, the current head butler of the Lacita's" The man said as he bowed introducing himself.
"It's nice meeting you sir Luke" Aderi smiled, Luke's eyes widen, and waved his hands in front of his face in a panic.
"P-please m'lady just call me Luke, how can a mere commoner like me be called as 'sir' by a daughter of a duke and duchess!" Luke said in a hurry, his voice trembling from nervousness. Aderi giggled.
"Luke it is then" Aderi smiled, and Luke nodded.
"Ah! I forgot why I'm here! Ahem -- so duke and duchess Lacita is gonna take you for a week" Luke said announcing why he is here, Aderi's eyes widen in shock.

"Are you serious?" Aderi asked, Luke, smiled happily and nodded.
"Yes! Please pack your stuff and get ready, a carriage will be waiting for you, no need to rush m'lady. The maids will help you" Luke said smiling, Aderi smiled happily and nodded.
"I'll be taking my leave now, I'll wait for you m'lady at the carriage," Luke said with a smile as he opened the door before bowing and leaving closing the door behind him.
"You must be since you won't receive your 3-day punishment, tsk! Their daughter is already dead and yet they still try to entangle themselves with the Callista" her father said glaring at Aderi as he crossed his arms angrily.
"And the one they try to get is the one who killed their daughter" Aderi's father rolled his eyes as he let out an irritated sigh.
"Grandma and grandfather know that childbirth death cannot be blamed on the child" Aderi talked back as she looked at her father with tired eyes, Aderi's father rolled his eyes before going out the door and slamming It behind him.
"Seriously that man is giving me a headache, this ain't a father, I don't even know his name, all I know is he is duke Callista...seriously why did the novel just address him as Aderi's father, all I know is he is an unknown man," Aderi said complaining as she held her head from a headache all this trouble are giving her.
A knock can be heard from the door, Aderi looked up.
"Come in!" Aderi said, the door opened and she was greeted by the maids, once the door was closed the 12 maids kneeled on the ground and bowed their heads.
"WERE SORRY M'LADY! WE COULDN'T STOP HIM, PLEASE LET US SERVE YOU WITH MANY FOODS WHEN WE GOT BACK TO THE LACITA'S!" every maid said the same thing, Aderi was taken aback by the maid's shouting apology.
"Uhm...please raise your heads," Aderi said not knowing what to do in this situation.
"How can we! a mere maid raise our heads when we weren't able to save our lady?" all the maids said the same thing again, Aderi gulp not knowing what to say. After a long pause, Aderi talked.

"I'll let you serve me as much food as you'll serve me once we go back to the house Lacita, so please help me get ready first" Aderi smiled warmly at the maids, everyone lift their heads and quickly got up.
"Please let us take you to the bath first," 4 of the maids said as they pushed Aderi to the bathroom while the others are opening her closet and drawers and put some dresses and accessories in a suitcase. And some are fixing her bed.

After Aderi's bath, she was dressed in a lovely red dress, she was currently sitting in a mirror as a maid was doing her hair. Everyone was already done packing her stuff.
"It's done, m'lady," the maid said with a smile as she tied the orange ribbon on Aderi's hair.
"Thank you, now please take down the baggage in the carriage" Aderi smiled, and everyone smiled and nodded. One by one every maid disappeared.
Aderi looked at herself once more in the mirror before standing up, she walked to the door before she paused to grab the handle. She looked at the opened balcony.
She quickly ran to her vanity to grab a paper and pen, and she then started writing. After she was done writing, she closed the twin doors of the balcony and put the note in between the doors, the note was now secured due to it being stuck in between the doors.
Aderi then ran back to her bedroom door and opened it, she took one more glance at the now-closed balcony door.
"Hope you find the letter" Aderi mumbled as she closed the door and headed downstairs to the carriage where everyone is waiting for her.
She was positive no one will be going into her room since in the novel it was stated that Aderi's safe place was her room.
"M'lady please get in," Luke said with a smile as he offered his hand for Aderi to grab onto so she can get in.
"Thank you Luke" Aderi smiled as she held Luke's hand so she can get in the carriage without stumbling.
Luke closed the door after Aderi got in. Aderi leaned back as she looked outside from the window where everyone was putting her stuff in another carriage.
"Luke wasn't mentioned in the story, he is pretty handsome, he has beautiful orange hair and red eyes," Aderi thought observing Luke from outside who is helping the maids put things in another carriage.
"Although there was another character similar to him, a boy with orange hair and blue eyes, Aderi's admirer," Aderi said mumbling as she continued thinking.
She was brought back to her senses after the carriage started moving.
"It's such a shame her grandparents are gonna die soon," Aderi said as she looked at the sky.

"Surprisingly there's no security below her balcony tonight," Cael said as he landed on Aderi's balcony.
The doors were closed and Cael looked inside trying to see if Aderi is inside so he can knock. But he saw no one, he only saw a clean dark room.
"Where could she be?" Cael asked himself as he sighed, then he finally noticed something was stuck in between the doors.
He took it out quickly and unfolded the letter that was folded neatly.
'I figured you'll come again, I'll be staying with my grandparents for a week so I won't be home, I hope you'll find this letter and I hope you'll be the one who'll read this. Thank you for your help, thank you for the food, and thank you for being my friend, let's chat again after I come back! So please take care
- Aderi'
Cael smiled unknowingly as he read Aderi's handwritten letter, he leaned on the balcony railings and hugged the letter.
"As expected you have nice handwriting," Cael said as he looked at the moon with a smile.
"I'm glad you are free from this confinement, I'll be looking forward to your safe return" Cael smiled happily.

Sword System Academia
2/17 NOTICE: I'm putting this on hiatus, possibly permanently. I didn't want to spam with an "update chapter", so hopefully here and in the story blurb will get enough eyeballs. There are a couple reasons for ending SSA for now. 1) I wrote the next chapter but wasn't happy with it. I've been less and less satisfied with SSA's quality the more I thought about it. Part of the reason is... 2) I am seriously thinking about trying to publish some novels to help pay the bills, since I don't have my other source of income anymore. I have never asked for anything from SSA readers, no money, not even a review or rating. SSA is written for fun to amuse myself, primarily, and I would kind of feel bad actually charging someone money for something as unserious as that. I don't think it is good enough to ask anything in return. To use an analogy from music, SSA is more like a jam session with a bunch of friends. You're just chiling and having fun playing some music. I mean, if you are Mozart or even Eminem, your jam session is good enough to sell, but for an amateur beginner like myself, haha, no. If I want to publish something, I feel like I need to go the proper route of practice and rehearsals, which might be more similar to a classical concert performance. With SSA, I work from worldbuilding notes and a loose outline, but what you are essentially getting is the first draft with lots of so-called pantsing. Pushing out a web novel like this also means it is very difficult to go back and improve things without breaking everything else downstream. I wanted to try this "jamming" approach, as it was a good way to teach me about another aspect of writing, but to move forward, I think I need to hone my "classical" techniques, which emphasize rewriting, or at least, revising outlines. 3) While I intend to try to make $$$, my actual current goal is to "get gud". I've spent a lot of time recently trying to understand the self-publishing industry, and I'm pretty sure I can make some money by using short-term strategies with my current amateur skill level. But I've seen too many authors come and go/burnout, and really, the only way that I think I can enjoy writing and still make money on a long-term basis is to become a better writer. And the next step for me, which I haven't done much before, is to spend more time on rewriting and outlines. That is pretty much antithetical to the way SSA is developing. I've always been kind of 20/80 plotting/pantsing, but I want to spend a lot more time outlining before I even start writing. SSA jam sessions don't really fit my goal anymore. If you're curious about what's next, read on... Among other regrets, I regret not finishing SSA. It's the first story I've dropped, but then again, it's the first web novel I've attempted, so I suppose that's not a surprise. I don't think traditional web novel formats suit me that well. The whole SSA story I had loosely planned (beyond a first book or major arc) is way too large as well. Big story = good for neverending webnovel with Patreons, bad for penniless and fickle writer like me. I am currently outlining a complete trilogy to another story in great detail. I want the story to end concisely, and I also want the chance to really spend a lot of time on the full outline to spot pacing problems, character issues, lost themes, and so on. I'll still share this story on RR. What I intend to do is finish book 1, flash-publish the whole thing here for a few weeks, then publish on the big Zon. Repeat for books 2 and 3. The upcoming story will be about crafting heroes. The backdrop is an isekai-like setting, where elves will summon humans to their world as heroes, but the whole hero crafting business is still in its infancy. The elven mage researchers are figuring out how to imbue heroes with power, while the heroes are trying to figure out how to use the powers that they gain. Humans are the best hero templates because they are blank and have no intrinsic magic. Or at least that what the elves thought. The human MC has his own secrets... There will be some similarities with litrpgs, but I would call it more a progression fantasy or gamelit story. For example, the stats are very low, at least initially. Say we have a stat called Str. Going from Str = 1 to Str = 2 is a huge deal. Also, going from Dex = 0 to Dex = 1 is an even bigger deal. I guess you could call it a "low-stat litrpg", haha. Also, the heroes won't be gaining stats simply by killing things or leveling up. You can't increase stats arbitrarily, either. There will be rules to how stats can increase, and how they work with each other. The elven mages will be figuring out these rules in order to craft stronger and stronger heroes. Some inspiration will be from cultivation magic systems, but there won't be overt cultivation, at least for now. A theme I really want to explore is the idea of interactions. That includes things like hero crafter vs hero, tactics vs strategy, skill synergies, racial interactions (dwarves, elves, etc), and son. Yeah, so hero crafting. I'm super excited about this project and venturing into publishing. If you want to check out the upcoming story, you can follow my RR author profile to see when it drops here. Finally... THANK YOU TO EVERYONE! I'm very sorry that SSA is stopping, but I hope at least some of you will find the next story at least as enjoyable, if not more. Thanks to all the readers who gave SSA a shot. Big hug or solid fistbump to all of you, whichever you prefer! I hope this message is not a downer but an upper, because I am psyched!! -purlcray -------------- BLURB: Talen, youngest Master of the Koroi, makes his way to the Empire's capital to salvage his clan's fate. But the bustling city has few opportunities for the traditionalist. For the old sword clans are fading. With the rise of alchemy, gold can purchase strength that ordinarily took years of training to cultivate. Sword artists, once rare and accomplished, are quickly growing in number, especially among the wealthy noble class. Even with such alchemy, though, no one has advanced to the rank of Grandmaster in countless years. Talen's true dream is to walk the path of a sword artist to the very end while fulfilling his clan duties. And then the Swordgeists return, fabled founders of all sword arts, gods who had touched the world long ago and vanished. These myths turned into reality warn of a coming threat. Alongside this warning, they issue an invitation to the Sword System Academy, a path to power beyond the mortal realm. But first, they will hold an entrance exam... Story notes:Sword System Academia blends elements of western and asian fantasy such as xianxia and litrpg. I took parts from different genres I enjoyed and twisted them into my own creation. There will be an explicit system, both of the litrpg kind and the hard(ish) magic kind, but it is embedded within an academic structure that will develop over the course of the story. This is my attempt to design a unique type of system, the System Academia.
