Together, we watched the dying sunburst, our gazes occasionally darting away from the sky to steal timid glances at each other. The rich, vibrant colours—mesmeric shades of amber, burnt orange and carnation pink—utterly transfixed us almost as much as we were transfixed by each other. It was an ethereal moment; one that seemed perennial. If only it had lasted. But sunsets are never meant to endure, and, much too soon, the sun disappeared over the horizon, plunging into nightfall. The sky, the sun and our love perished; only the lustrous stars, like minuscule beads of hope, prevailed.
