"Charlotte.......?"
Charlotte, "..........."
Charlotte never thought that she would be exposed this fast. Just how sharp this man could be? She had just come up with a way to mess with him later but before she could do it, she was already exposed.
"It's you right?" Khun asked again. Seeing how "Nox" suddenly froze, then he must have guessed it right.
Charlotte pressed her lips together. She pulled back her hand and released his wrist. Charlotte took off her mask and revealed her face that was identical with Bam.
"How do you know it is me?"
"If Jue Viole Grace is actually Bam, with your brown hair and golden eyes, it won't be hard for me to guess that you are Charlotte" Khun answered. "What happened? How did the two of you ended up being slayer nominees?"
Charlotte didn't answer. It was more like that she was hesitant. Thinking about some events from her past, she felt that her blood was boiling.
"I-"
"NOX!" Wangnan slammed the door open with a happy smile. "Do you see where Prince is-"
When Wangnan saw both Charlotte and Khun looking at him, he remained silent. The three of them didn't know what they should say and the room was suddenly quiet until Wangnan shouted, "WHO ARE YOU?!"
•••
Charlotte explained everything to the members of the Team Sweet and Sour who still looked at her in disbelief.
For all these time, they thought that she was a man. They used to mistook Viole as a girl and now they mistook Nox as a man when she was actually an adorable young lass.
"This skin...." Wangnan poked her cheek and Charlotte pushed his hand away. "Could it that you are faking it to prank us?"
"I never said that I was a man from the beginning" Charlotte defended herself. "Besides, do you really think that I would go that far to prank all of you?"
Right, she hasn't done anything toward them yet, although she made it clear to them that if they messed with them again just like what they did to the drawing book, then they would end just like the drawing book.
Charlotte looked at Miseng who still can't take off her eyes from her. She smiled and asked, "What? You still don't believe me?"
Was it something that could be believed in short time?
Nox rarely smiled. It was actually because Nox never took off his mask for them. So seeing that she was actually a friendly person still made them stunned and found it hard to believe.
But no matter how hard it was for them to believe, the person before them was indeed the Nox who cooked, replaced their roles in doing the house chores and the Nox who played with them.
Charlotte looked at Khun who has been quiet. She asked, "Ah right, aren't you going to look for your teammates?"
"How do you know that I have a team?" Khun asked her. He hasn't told her about the team that he had formed for some time ago.
Charlotte coughed and answered, "Of course I have my own ways." She immediately changed the topic before Khun asked further, "FUG must have done something to you and your friends. What about we go look at them?"
In the Manhwa, Khun formed a team. He also had figured out that Rachel was the murderer and the one who killed both of his friends. He left the huge companion years ago to build another team. But because of FUG, the organization Rachel worked with, he suffered a serious misfortune.
The two of his teammates - Khun Ran and Novick who were the descendants from 10 Great Families- after the incident in the Hand of Arlen, the two of them ended up in FUG's team. He wasn't really worried as Viole or Bam was there too but Bam himself was having a hard time.
Meanwhile, Apple and Michael, his other teammates, the two of them worked with FUG and joined hands with Rachel to betray him. His other teammates, Gyetang who was a chicken and Dan who was a scout, they were left with those traitors.
Khun discovered that Apple had betrayed him. But when he saw in his bunker that Michael was nowhere to be found with the women and Gyetang who was poisoned to death while Dan who was hurt but still alive, he was sure that guy also betrayed him.
Dan was a scout and he was quite fast. His speed was something that he was proud of and now that his legs were hurt, Khun assumed that it was probably Rachel's doing as she had envied Dan for his ability. Without his legs, how would Dan climb the tower?
Three of them betrayed him, two of them were lost, one of them was dead, one of them lost his legs while he was fooled and humiliated completely by FUG.
Back in the house of Sweet and Sour, when he was taking his own time in the rooftop, he learnt all those secrets. Why FUG needed both Bam and Charlotte? Because the two of them were irregulars and weren't bound with any rules or contracts of the tower. Why Charlotte and Bam didn't escape whenever they had a chance? It was because if the two of them showed the slightest hesitation in being slayer candidates, then their friends will be killed one by one.
When he was about to hit Hwaryun, Charlotte who decided to bring water for Hwaryun saw that and threw a white fan to block it.
Khun was stopped and surprised by the fan that flew around and ended in Charlotte's hand. Charlotte immediately walked to them and handed the water to Hwaryun.
"Thank you."
"Didn't you say that you are going to have a talk?" Charlotte asked Hwaryun. "Why are you fighting against each other? Calm down, alright?"
How could Khun possibly remained calm when he had heard everything? But still, he swallowed his anger as Hwaryun explained to him that the incident in the Hand of Arlen this time didn't involve her. In another word, she was also betrayed.
There were some elders in FUG who were trying to put both Viole and Nox under their control. The sole reason why the two slayer candidates had this much freedom because there was someone who helped them with it. And now, those elders used this Workshop Battle as a chance to make a wager with them.
If they could win with their current teammates, then Viole or Bam would return to them. But if they couldn't, then Nox and Bam would leave the team. This Workshop Battle will be their chance to get to be with their friends again.
Of course Khun would be taking it. But seeing the members of the Team Sweet and Sour before, each of them except for Nox were all ordinary. It won't be easy for them to win the Workshop and he believed that the percentage of the winning was quite low.
He decided to look for Dan and apologized to him. Had he not bring him to the team, or more like he was kidnapping and tricking him into it, then he won't lost both of his legs like this.

But Dan won't give up that easy. He told Khun that the reason that he was still alive was because Rachel wanted to see whether he would be able to climb the tower again without his legs. Knowing that Dan didn't give up yet and decided to participate in the Workshop Battle made Khun ran out of the room and slammed the door open to look for Hwaryun who was talking with the others.
"Hwaryun!" Khun called the guide's name and then declared, "I will make a team with them and then win the Workshop Battle!"
The Team Sweet and Sour was surprised while Charlotte, she made a small smile.
"What do you mean by that?" Wangnan asked. "You want to go to the battle with us?"
"Yes! My name is Khun Aguero Agnes! I'm Bam's.....I mean Viole's old teammate and a friend to Nox! Please! Let's enter the Workshop Battle together! If we could win this, then we could bring both Viole and Nox back!"
Wasn't she there already, Charlotte thought and smiled even wider while crossing her arms. Charlotte was just there for temporary. If they failed and lost on this one, then Charlotte and Bam would disappear again without a trace.
"I don't mind if nothing changes with the battle but I will win and regain my pride back" Khun proudly said. "They'll regret looking down on me."
"But....." Wangnan stood up and scratched the back of his head, "Frankly speaking, the chance that we will win the battle is-"
"100%" Khun cut off. "I can't lose to lame slayer candidates or Zahard's googly eyes. I will make a perfect strategy to break them. I will do anything nasty and dirty to win. In the end, they will all kneel for me, begging me for mercy."
Sweet and Sour, "........"
Perhaps this was the first time the member of the Sweet and Sour saw someone as confident as Khun. The Sweet and Sour knew that Khun Aguero Agnes was the part of Khun Family, one of the 10 Great Families. It wasn't surprising that he could say those words. But will they be able to help him when they were so far quite ordinary?
His words seemed to made them felt a bit pressured.
Khun added, "I'm not saying all of these because I want to pressure all of you. I'm saying that we should try it. After all, we are going to meet our friends right?"
Wangnan smiled in relieve, "Well, that's true." He extended his hand, "Alright. I'll make a team with you. Since we've decided to try it....."
"Let's win."
"Great."
|Night, Rooftop|
When Charlotte walked to the rooftop, she saw someone else there. The person was of course, Khun Aguero Agnes.
"What are you doing here?" Khun asked her. At this time, she should be sleeping with the others.
"Stargazing" Charlotte answered.
"Stargazing?" Khun echoed her words.
There were no stars, moon or sun in the tower. He just heard that those things existed outside the tower. Stargazing wasn't the correct word to look at the sky that was made with shinsu.
He told her about it but the girl didn't seem to care about that.
"Anyways" he changed the topic of the conversation and said, "You and Bam are usually be together. So why this time he is the only one who showed himself in the Hand of Arlen?"
Charlotte recalled the moment where Bam told her to turn around and knocked her out. She snorted when she recalled it.
"What? Did you do something that anger him?" Khun asked.
"Brother is so mean" she said and held her shoulder. "How could he possibly knock me out like that? Right now, it still hurts."
Charlotte thought that if he had to knock him out, can't he come up with softer and painless method? She still can feel the pain on her shoulder.
"You deserve it."
Charlotte didn't want to argue with the friend who she had just met after 7 years.
"But 7 years haven't met, you change quite a lot."
"What do you mean by that?"
Khun just smiled and said, "At least you don't run away whenever you see me."
Charlotte recalled those moments. Those memories were still clear even though she had forgotten the feeling of awkwardness and nervousness inside her. Still, she felt kind of embarrassed. Did he purposely mention it again to see her getting embarrassed? Or maybe he was just looking back at the past, looking at the time that they can't return.
"Well, you can't be blaming me for being scary and creepy" Charlotte said and looked away.
"I thought that you ever praised me for looking pretty" he said.
Charlotte didn't remember that conversation quite well. As much as she didn't want to miss every single detail of the past, she still forgotten some.
"Do you enjoy being called as pretty boy? Because for what I know, pretty boys as usually considered as effeminate and effeminate means behaving feminine right?" Charlotte asked with a teasing smile. "It seems like I wasn't the one who change for these years."
He didn't mention that one just to be teased like this. Seeing how he looked away and refused to talk about it made Charlotte believe that this man was actually annoyed because of her words. She smiled and asked, "What? Are you getting mad at me?"
"I just found it unnecessary to answer your foolish question" Khun responded.
"Alright, alright, our Khun is the smartest one" she said.
"Don't treat me like a child when you are the child."
"What's the fun being an adult now?" Charlotte asked. She still had her fan with her and decide to open it to fan herself. "When we are adults later, we won't be able to behave childish and playful again."
Her fan was colored in white and also plain-looking. But that fan managed to block his attack before and there was no scratch on it.
"Where did you get the fan?"
"Do you want to know?"
"Otherwise, why would I ask?"
Charlotte just smiled and then shut her fan, "If you kneel down before me, then maybe I will tell you."
"Dream on" he said.
Long ago, when Charlotte was Nox, she encountered an old woman who was getting beaten up by some guys and out of sympathy, Charlotte beat those guys and helped the old woman. After that, she kindly helped her to return to her home.
The old woman was someone nice. As a thank you, she gave her the fan and told her to cherish it well. Charlotte decided to accept it and then left.
Hearing her story, Khun seriously wondered whether this girl made up that story just to trick him.
"I'm not lying! I did get this fan in that way!" Charlotte said to Khun.
"Then aren't you afraid that you are being deceived by that old woman?" He asked.
Charlotte played with a strand of brown hair and answered, "She looks quite nice."
Khun rolled his eyes. With her behavior, it won't be surprising if she gets herself tricked one day.
"Haven't you heard 'don't judge a book by its cover'?" Khun asked her. "What if that old woman turns out to be a bad person?"
"Well, then the only one who could be blamed is myself" Charlotte lightly answered. "It's my bad luck that I saved the wrong person."
This part of her didn't change. The last time Khun asked her after she handed the Black March to Anaak, if one day Anaak betrayed her, then would she regret it? What would she do? Didn't she give this kind of answer as well?
And even though she had became the part of FUG, she still believed people easily. He seriously wondered how she survived all these years with that innocent, ignorant, casual and naive behavior?
"It's because I am good in fighting" Charlotte answered with a proud smile.
"If you are good with muscles but not brain, then you will only end up being deceived" Khun said.
"I am not stupid" Charlotte said. "You are just being too smart. Then let me ask you a question, if you are in my position, will you help that old lady?"
"No" Khun answered. "Because I don't believe in her."
"This is the difference in both of us. You can't trust people easily while I am the opposite. If it was me, then I would still save that old woman. Even though she was tricking me and ended up killing me, at least I have done a good deed right?"
"Is doing a good deed more important than your life?"
"......maybe."
"What kind of answer was that?"
Money, fame and glory were useless before death. She had learnt this by experience and her next reincarnation, whether she would be reincarnated as human or animal then it will be depended on her good and bad deeds.
Charlotte didn't expect that Khun would understand her as the people who lived in the tower had longer life than those who lived outside, in her world.
"But of course, that doesn't mean that you are wrong. I'm just a simple person who loves to fool around and be friend with lots of people without doubt or suspicion" Charlotte said to Khun. "So, I have to rely on you to watch people around me so that I won't be betrayed."
"Me?" Khun asked and then chuckled. "What makes you think that I would be watching you and people around you?"
"Well, you don't have to" Charlotte said. "I just thought that since you are the person who can't trust others easily, then you will be more careful and meticulous. But suspecting anyone or everyone around you, don't you feel tired?"
Khun, "........"
When Charlotte heard that Khun didn't give any answer, she felt that she had said something wrong. He had been living in that way and considering his circumstances when he was young, he must be used to it. While Charlotte, on the other hand, she lived a carefree life in her former life.
"But being alerted isn't bad. One would rather betray the whole world than being betrayed by the world right?" Charlotte asked again to Khun. "The night is late and the wind is cold, you should go back soon."
"I'm not sleepy" Khun said. "If you are tired, then go first."
Seeing how he kept looking at the night sky, Charlotte assumed that he must have missed Bam. After all, Bam's name meant night. She thought that he probably needed some time alone and left him.
Seeing how the young lass really walked away, Khun forgot to ask about how the two of them had been doing in the FUG. Charlotte had walked away without turning back.
He decided that he would ask it in another time. After all, he can't let Bam's only sister who was tired already answered his question that came out of curiosity.

Lost In Translation
If you're one to travel the roads, you may have heard of me. You may have heard my Names in the stories, the songs, and the whispers of the road. Perhaps you've even seen me during my travels, speaking to a bird of blue light, or on a city street, performing small acts for coin and repute. Or perhaps you may know me as the Skystrider, who walked with the wind. Or the Voiceless, a man of song without speech. You may know me as the Tutor, who taught the Lion of Summer how to fight, or the Traveler, who has walked all the roads of the earth. I am all of these things. And people have branded me a myth. But people don't understand what a myth is. They haven't heard the songs lost to our tongues, nor have they seen the things I've seen. They haven't gone to the places I've gone. My feet have walked the plains, the seas, and the clouds. I have spoken languages unspoken; tongues lost to time. I have sung to the earth, held the moon in my arms, and walked the roads that your heroes hesitate to even mention. I have outwitted Demons. I have danced with the Fae. My songs have been heard by lords of wind and ash, and my steps have echoed in the bellies of gargantuan beasts the likes of which you have never seen. These are what real myths are. And me? I'm no legend. I'm just the bard stupid enough to poke the real ones with a stick. Discord link here. Discord Community: https://discord.gg/3tHKHAx7Ye The Vitaean Chronicles are a debut LitRPG High Fantasy series written with the intent of filling a niche I've yet to see filled anywhere else. This is my first novel of this kind, so please be patient with me. Throughout this story, I will endeavour to create an evolving and expansive narrative anchored around believable characters, compelling plotlines, and a consistent and sensible magic system. The purpose of this work is to create what I believe to be a relatively unique piece of fiction, drawing inspiration from many great stories that have come before from the likes of Tolkien, Jordan, Hertbert, Goodkind, Pratchett, Martin, and several others. My goal is not to create a masterpiece, but simply to create a story that someone can read and re-read with the same joy, same frustration, and same investment each time. This story will contain violence, politics, Shakespearian drama, tongue-in-cheek references, adult content, and well-crafted relationships of both platonic and romantic natures. I will not promise you will like every choice I make. I can only guarantee that I will do my best to create a story I, and you, can be proud of. As I progress, I will have room to incorporate fan-made characters for those interested in making their mark within the tapestry of this tale (with the customary disclaimer that they do so while waiving any rights to future profit, lol). Thank you to Royal Road for giving me the platform to do that, and thank you dear readers past, present, and future for choosing to come on this journey with me. Finally, just to cover myself: This work is Copyrighted to the Author herein known as 'Hannibal Forge', and recreation, distribution, or re-release of any material herein in a commercial or public capacity absent permission from the Author can and will be prosecuted to the full extent of the Law.
