Step right up and lift the mighty hammer!
- - - - -
Phil Coulson pulled up at the crater's edge. Ana removed her seatbelt and opened up her door, joining Phil as he stood at the edge. She took off her sunglasses and examined the scene. It looked like the whole town turned up. There were locals sitting on lounge chairs, drinking beer, laughing and talking. They watched the centre of the crater, where men have formed a line to take a turn with the mysterious object in the ground. It looked like nobody could move it.
Phil took his phone out and pressed the button, dialling Director Fury's number. "Sir, we found it." He spoke into the phone as Ana crouched down, taking a pair of binoculars and looking at the object. She frowned, it didn't look like standard machinery that would usually fall out of the sky. It looked more like a hammer.
Ana stood, searching her pocket for her badge. She pulled it out and checked it. Agent Ana Michaels, S.H.I.E.L.D. She raised her eyebrows when Phil started walking down the crater's edge, towards the locals. "Phil! Wh- Uh, okay." She ran back to the car, grabbed her handgun just incase, and followed Phil down.
Once they were close, Phil started waving his hands trying to get the attention of everybody. Ana rolled her eyes as they all ignored him. She thought they would stop since they were dressed in suits, Ana having a more casual look with her aviators and leather jacket. She then whistled loudly, gaining the attention of everyone.
She took the megaphone out of the hands of the supposed show runner that passed her and handed it to Phil. He took it with a grateful nod and faced the crowd. "Hello, everybody if you could all clear the area, this is now a government situation." They pulled out their badges and showed it to the locals in unison.
"That right there," He pointed to the hammer in the centre, "Is a radioactive satellite which you have blindly touched. Now you all have been warned, make sure anyone who plans on coming here knows of the situation and stays clear. Thank you for your cooperation." He dropped the megaphone and smiled.
The crowd stood there with dumbfounded looks on their faces. One man in a plaid jacket and a cap walked forward, beer in hand. "If this is a government situation, how come y'all just arrived? This thing was here for days." The man asked before spitting on the ground, shooting Ana a smirk.
Ana restrained herself from rolling her eyes and clasped her hands behind her back, clenching her fingers. "We were held up, sir. Now I suggest you pack up and leave, before I make you." She warned, giving a sweet smile to mask the hostility she felt. Phil looked on smiling. Natasha must have taught her that.
Ana nodded her head at the locals, "Now, please." She called out and they all practically sped away from the scene, packing their things and driving away.
"Nice one." Phil nodded.
She laughed and pulled out her phone as Phil looked around the crater. "Want me to give the go ahead, sir?" She asked as he walked towards the hammer.
He turned his head to face her and nodded. "Yes, please. We need to make a perimeter around this thing, it doesn't look like we can take it with us." He replied back. She nodded and did as she was told. After calling base, she joined Phil and looked at the metal hammer.

"What do you think this is? Some sort of technology?" Ana asked.
Phil shrugged and rolled up his sleeves. "More like an alien artefact. We picked it up after finding atmospheric disturbances in the area. At first we thought it was a subtle aurora, but the electromagnetic signatures were off the charts." He informed her.
Ana took off her leather jacket when the sun started getting to her. "Does anyone else know about this?" She asked as Phil took notes on the hammer.
He looked up briefly and nodded, "Her name is Jane Foster. She's a scientist and she's been studying the auroras for weeks. She's been on the scene multiple times."
Ana processed the information and tucked a piece of her hair behind her ear. "So do we need to interrogate her? Ask for her help?" She asked. "Tail her?"
Phil closed his notepad and tucked it into his inner suit pocket, "Once the team gets here, I want you to supervise the operation while I take a few guys and borrow Miss Foster's research." He smiled and gestured her to walk back up to the car.
She smirked at him, swinging her jacket so she was holding it over her shoulder. "You mean steal. You're going to steal her work." She laughed when he looked at her seriously, trying to not smile.
"Borrow, Agent Michaels, borrow."

A massive SHIELD base was now set up around the crater — vehicles, trailers, barricades. Armed guards manned a gate in the razor wire fence that ran fifty yards from the crater's edge, enclosing the area. Clear, plastic access tubes with junction boxes led to a translucent cube structure in the middle of the crater. Through the glass walls of the base's command trailer, Coulson was directing technicians, busy at work. Within the cube structure itself, a team of SHIELD scientists work with high-tech machinery, analysing the object at the centre of it all.
Ana was arming herself with standard weaponry since it would be her time to guard the outer cube area. A crack of thunder made her look up at the sky through the glass panels. She furrowed her eyebrows in confusion, there wasn't supposed to be a storm but then again, hammers don't just fall out of the sky at random. She finished getting ready and walked toward the exit when Clint walked in.
Ana looked at him surprised then smirked at his tiresome expression. "I thought you were on vacation. What happened, ran out of coconuts to drink?" She teased.
Clint looked at her grumpily. "Yeah go ahead and make fun, Fury wanted me down here helping out." He said, annoyed. He was dressed in his usual black uniform as he looked around for someone.
Ana caught on and gestured for him to follow her. "Coulson's this way." She led him through the agents to where Phil was talking to a technician.
"Coulson." Clint greeted.
Phil looked up when he heard his name and tipped his head, "Barton, glad you could make it." He said with a small smile.
Clint walked forward and crossed his arms, "So Fury told me that you caught an alien?" He looked unconvinced, snickering at the idea.
Ana laughed along and Coulson shook his head. "That's very inaccurate. We have encountered an extraterrestrial object." He corrected matter factly.
Clint's brows then furrowed in puzzlement. "Then where's the alien that it belongs to?" He asked. Just then the alarms went off, signalling a perimeter breach. Clint and Ana looked up simultaneously. Phil talked into his radio and waited for a response.

"I want eyes up high with a gun, now!"
Clint nodded at Coulson, silently telling him he would take care of it, and ran to the weaponry room. Ana looked to Coulson for her orders. He gave her a radio to which she strapped on her belt.
"I want you to take a few men, someone's trying to get inside the crater. Stop him. Go." Phil said and ran to all the commotion.
Ana ran for the tubes that led to the middle of the crater. She tapped two of the biggest guys she could find on the shoulder, and told them to lead the way. They ran ahead as she followed. Ana could hear the punching on flesh and the pained groans. She clenched her fists, the gloves tightening around her hands.
Ana pressed the button on her radio, "Barton, what can you see?" She asked, her boots thudding as she ran.
"A big guy totalling everyone. You want me to slow him down, sir?" He asked Coulson over the radio, "Or are you sending in more guys for him to beat up?" Ana chuckled and stopped when she heard the roars.
The biggest agent Ana brought along stepped in front of the blond man, giving him a hard uppercut under his chin. The man flew back from the force and landed on his back. Dazed, Thor looked up to see Agent Tank, the biggest one in the area. His eyes flickered to the woman standing behind him, staring at her for a few moments.
He then chuckled deeply, running his hand over his jaw where he was hit. "You're big." He stated. He stood up and grinned, "Fought bigger." He mumbled to himself.
Ana nodded at Agent Tank and he charged at Thor, knocking them both out of the tubes and onto the mud. It was raining down on them as the two men punched, elbowed and kicked each other.
Clint Barton, who was up in the air watching the scene unfold, talked into his radio. "Ana, don't move. This guy looks like he can snap you in half." His concerned voice came out of her radio. She watched as Thor stood up, lunging forward and whipping his feet in front of him, kicking out and nailing Agent Tank in the chest. Tank flew back, landing on the mud.
Clint and Ana both let out an, "Ooh."
She watched as Thor walked back into the tube, her feet taking her away from his bloodied and muddy form. She gulped. He had taken down at least twenty men and she was supposed to take him down? Never mind her enhanced strength. His blue eyes found her hazel ones. He hesitated, not wanting to hurt a lady.
"Ana, stand down. I want to see this." Coulson commanded through the radio.
Ana lowered her fists and Thor wasted no time into ripping the plastic, his hammer just a few feet away from him. She watched as he stumbled to the hammer. The rain pummelled down on him as he reached for the handle.
He smiled, triumphantly, and lifted but the hammer didn't move. Thor looked confused and tried again with two hands, but to no avail — anger and frustration overtaking him. He strained with all his might, screaming from the effort. Ana couldn't help but feel bad as he cried up at the storm and lightning above him, his knees falling to the mud.
"Ground units, move in. Show's over." Coulson ordered over the radio.
Ana stepped back as the agents restrained Thor, his hands bound with cuffs. She heard footsteps behind her and turned to see Clint with his compound bow over his shoulder. He patted her back and gave a small smile.
"Time to interrogate the guy."
- - -
Ana watched from outside the interrogation room. The unknown blond man was sitting on a chair with his hands behind his back. Coulson stood in front of him, asking questions but the man stared forward blankly. They didn't know his name, where he came from, and how he was able to take down some of the best agents without much effort.
Clint came beside her and offered a cup of coffee. She smiled in thanks and took it. "He's not talking anytime soon. It's like here came here for one thing and one thing only — to take the hammer. Not caring what was between him and his goal. But he failed and now he's miserable." She said.
Clint shrugged as they watched Coulson lean in closer to the man. "No one could take it. They tried cranes for crying out loud, and it still won't budge. What makes this guy think he could do any better?" He asked rhetorically. She nodded at that and Coulson exited the room.
Clint turned his attention from the man to Coulson, "He's not talking yet, is he?"
Coulson nodded with a sigh, "Not yet." He said optimistically.
"Guy like that could probably take months of torture before he starts to crack." Ana mumbled and Clint crossed his arms.
"It's too bad you're not the torturing type." Clint told Phil. Phil knew what they were thinking and narrowed his eyes.
"You two have an idea, I assume?" He asked sarcastically.
Clint and Ana looked at each other before nodding at him. "Yeah cut him loose." Ana said easily.
Phil looked at her baffled, "Let him walk? Just like that?" He asked, not understanding her point.
Clint spoke up, "After you shackled him, I saw some chick scrambling to her car, all frantic. Logic suggests that she gave him a ride out here and she was about as subtle in getting away as he was in getting in."
Phil looked at him, taking in the information and contemplating on agreeing. Ana went to push him into listening, "We're just saying, he may be a pro, but the people he's mixed up with don't have a clue what they're doing." Clint smirked at her proudly and pointed at Phil,
"You want intel on this guy? Cut him loose and give him a tail."
"Not a bad idea."

Legends of Balarel - A Leisurely LitRPG
Glenn Redwood has longed to become an Adventurer since he was a young boy, and has focused every waking moment on that goal since turning 14. Answering the challenge of the Gods of Balarel, he has fought Monsters, Leveled, and grown stronger. Yet the day before his 16th birthday, the day he will earn his dream or lose it forever ... the Gods have made a wager. And no mere mortal wishes to draw the attention of the Gods. ***** This is my crack at writing a leisurely LitRPG. My focus is more on telling interesting stories set in a world where people live under a MMORPG-like ruleset enforced by the Gods, and less on writing another story where the MC gets massive stat boosts every chapter before heading off to wreck the world. There will be plenty of blue tables (it’s LitRPG!) but my Adventurers are just starting out. This fic is about the journey, not the destination, so expect everyone to Level ... leisurely. Updates: M-T-W-Th. I’ll post 3000-4000 words a day, or 12000-15000 words a week. If this posting pace ends up being too much for me, I reserve the right to slow posts down a bit. Inspirations: Blessed Time (Royal Road) Is It Wrong To Try To Pick Up Girls In a Dungeon? (Anime) Trails in the Sky (JRPG Series) MC: My MC is a genuinely good person who’s both a talented warrior and tactically savvy. He prefers to solve problems without violence but will resort to force if necessary to protect his friends or innocent people. I’m tired of stories starring anti-hero MCs facing endless doom and gloom, so I wanted to write a nice guy with an adventurous spirit who helps people in a thriving fantasy world. That’s all.

After a series of mishaps in his ever chaotic Brazil, our intrepid hero decides to join the Unity's Army, where he ends up as a inglorious… quartermaster. The Unity takes all recruits to make matters worse, including the mythics! And the cherry on the damn pie is Rafael Barro’s extra assignment: writing this historical first-hand report on the wonders of Earth’s diversity, the seamless adaptation of all its members, and on his gallant units’ first stellar expedition ever to defend another precious*³ world! Are we talking about the same planet? (Reader discretion is advised; Contains Graphic Language and Potentially Excessive Swearing) *¹ Carioca = demonym of someone from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. *² humble and/or hardworking Cariocas = not necessarily mythics, ordinary ones actually exist. *³ precious = inasmuch every living planet is precious. Editor's Note: Someone disable his permission to edit the draft on UnityDocs, please! Hello, I'm McKing and I aim to write an original story with elements I've never seen put together before. Feel free to point out any mistakes you see — I'm not a native speaker, so I'm sure a few will pass me by. Sci-fi; Humor; (Brazilian) Urban Fantasy; faint shades of LitRPG. **Be warned it has a bit of an (absurd) slice-of-life beginning though the story is being subtly (I hope) worked on and eventually shifts gears (a bit). I planned to say that from the beginning, but I forgot to add it.** I hope that you enjoy it and that I can grow as a writer with your contributions. No Fixed Update Schedule. My inspiration comes in bursts and so will the Chapters. Sorry if that displeases you (I love regular updates too), but I'm afraid that's the best I can do for now. Keep in mind that it is a work in progress and things can eventually change a bit - I'll try to always note the changes. Sorry for the bad cover, it was the best my sorry skills could do! I hope you enjoy it,Mcking
