2012
Cassandra sat next to Natasha in a medical bay, next to a sleeping Clint Barton. Natasha looked tired and worried, dark marks forming under her eyes. Clint sat up suddenly, struggling against the bonds over his wrists.
"Ugh, what happened?" He said drowsily.
"Cognitive recalibration, I hit you really hard in the head." Natasha answered, sitting next to him.
"Thanks," he groaned, letting Cassandra take the straps off his arms.
"Cass, is Laura, are they alright?"
"Nothing happened to them, I'm sure Loki had no idea they existed." She reassured, smiling gently.
"How many agents?"
"Don't. Don't do that to yourself, Clint. This is Loki. This is monsters and magic and nothing we were ever trained for." Natasha insisted.
"Loki, He got away?"
"Yeah. I don't suppose you know where?" Cassandra asked.
"I didn't need to know. I didn't ask. He's gonna make his play soon though. Today."
"We gotta stop him."
"Yeah. Who's we?"
"Whoever's left," Cassandra said.
The band around her wrist that displayed messages buzzed, and she looked down. Cassandra smiled at Clint and opened the door, stepping out for a moment.
She walked down the hall, and into the detention level, where Agent Coulson had died. Tony and Steve were talking when she entered.
"Loki's a full-tilt diva. He wants flowers, he wants parades, he wants a monument built in the skies with his name plastered-"
"Stark Tower." She muttered, unexpectedly joining the conversation.
Cassandra, Steve, and Tony walked briskly down the hall to the med bay, and opened the door to the room Clint and Natasha were in.
"Time to go." Steve said.
"Go where?" Natasha asked.
"I'll tell you on the way. Can you fly one of those jets?"
Clint walked out of a seperate room, drying his hands.
"I can," he said.
Steve looked to Cassandra and Natasha to confirm Clint was on their team. They simultaneously nodded, and Steve nodded back.
"You got a suit?" Steve asked.
"Yeah."
"Then suit up."
Cassandra followed Natasha to the weapon room, and stuck two guns and magazines filled with bullets into the blew around her waist. She snapped the heels off her boots, which would make it easier to run, which she was likely going to be doing a lot of.
"Why don't you just change shoes?" Natasha asked in awe, as Cassandra slipped daggers into the suits on her arms.
"Well, I like them, and I don't feel like changing shoes. Can we talk about this later please?"

••••••••••••
The jet spun in the air, but Clint managed to land somewhat safely on the street. Aliens poured from a portal right above them, shooting at civilians, and buildings. Cassandra quickly tore her seatbelt off, running down the ramp, Clint, Natasha and Steve following after her.
Cassandra pulled a pistol from her side, and shot at the ailens. They were big, one bullet, especially from a gun as small as her's, wasn't going to kill it. Neither would the knives on her arms. She needed something bigger.
Cassandra vaulted over a car, and kicked a Chitauri in the face. It was knocked to its back, and she stomped on it, using the strength Hydra had given her to her advantage. Once it was dead, she grabbed the spear from its hand, and used that instead.
"Stark, are you seeing this?" Steve asked, looking up at the sky in awe.
"I'm seeing, still working on believing. Where's Banner? Has he shown up yet?"
"Banner?"
Natasha and Clint ducked behind a car, occasionally shooting at the army.
"This is like Budapest all over again!"
"You and I remember Budapest very differently!" Clint replied to Natasha's comment, with a confused look on his face.
Cassandra smiled, happy that Clint was back to his old self. She never knew what they were talking about when they said something about Budapest. She didn't go on that mission, she might've been out sick.
She noticed the cops shooting at the chariots the Chitauri were driving, and jumped onto car, landing with such force it got their attention.
"I need men in these buildings. There are people inside that can run into the line of fire. You take them through the basement or through the subway. You keep them off the streets. I need a perimeter as far back as 39th."
"Why should we take orders from you?" The younger cop asked.
She didn't answer, but smacked a chariot away with her new staff. The younger cop looked suprised, while the older one spoke into his radio.
"I need men in those buildings, lead the people down and away from the streets. I need a perimeter as far back as 39th."
Cassandra glanced at the younger man, and narrowed her eyes, trying to figure out who he looked like. She realized who he looked like the moment the young man ran away.
"Daniel!" She exclaimed, turning the head of Steve, but she shrugged it off and kept fighting.

Cassandra ran to Natasha and Clint, tripping over a chunk of building. She rolled on the ground, and almost got killed if it weren't for Clint, who shoved an arrow into the alien's throat. Its body collapsed onto her, and she pushed it off of her.
"Thanks," she said, standing up with the help of Natasha.
"What's the story upstairs?" Steve asked.
"The powers surrounding the cube is impenetrable." Thor answered.
Cassandra looked next to her to see Thor standing beside her. She looked at him, wondering to herself how he was still standing. There was a wrather large blood stain on his stomach, that looked pretty fresh. The she remembered.
Oh yeah. He's a god.
"Thor is right. We gotta deal with these guys." Tony said, over comms.
"How do we do this?" Natasha asked.
"As a team."
"I have unfinished business with Loki." Thor announced.
"Yeah, get in line." Clint mumbled, cleaning off an arrow.
"Save it. Loki's gonna keep this fight focused on us and that's what we need. Without him these things could run wild. We got Stark up top, he's gonna need us." Steve reminded.
Cassandra heard the small rumble of an engine, and turned around. Bruce drove in on a small motorbike, looking tired, and in shock at the same time.
"So, this all seems horrible." Bruce noticed, glancing nervously at Natasha.
"I've seen worse." Natasha answered. "
"Sorry."
"No. We could use a little worse."
"Tony? We got him," Cassandra said.
"Banner?"
"Just like you said."
"Then tell him to suit up. I'm bringing the party to you."
Tony flew around a corner, following a him was a large snake-like monster that destroyed every building in its path. Cassandra looked up, her jaw hanging. She tightened her grip around the spear and got ready. Ready for what, she didn't know. Natasha looked up, cooking her head and saying,
"I don't see how that's party."
Cassandra cracked a small smile, then turned to Bruce.
"Dr. Banner. Now might be a really good time for you to get angry."
"That's my secret Agent. I'm always angry."
Bruce stepped forward, getting taller, and bulkier, and greener. Soon he fully transformed into the Hulk. He roared, and charged the monster, leaping and punching it in the nose. It slid forward but Bruce was able to keep it from falling, kind of.
"I got it." Tony said, shooting a missile into the beast's tail.
Cassandra and Clint ducked behind a crushed car, while Steve covered Natasha with his shield. Thor held his hammer over himself, which didn't offer very much cover, but she didn't have time to say that because the Levithan came crashing down. Its armor cracked, bending in ways it never should've been able to.
It exploded, sending shards of metal raining down on them. Civilians ran out of the line of destruction, and the Avengers stood up. Chitauri screeched from sides of buildings, and the seven formed a circle. Cassandra reloaded her gun, spun her spear. The Hulk roared, Thor spun his hammer, Steve brandished his shield, Clint drew an arrow, Natasha reloaded her gun, and Tony fired up his blasters.
The portal above them opened up, more angry ailens and monsters. A twinge of fear gave Cassandra the shivers, but she pushed it away, rocking side to side on her feet to calm her nerves.
"Guys." Natasha said in shock, looking up at the sky.
"Call it Cap," Tony said, barely able to replace the shakiness of his voice.
"Alright, listen up. Until we can close that portal up there, we're gonna use containment. Barton, I want you on that roof, eyes on everything. Call out patterns and strays. Stark, you got the perimeter. Anything gets more than three blocks out, you turn it back or your turn it to ash."
"Wanna give me a lift?" Clint asked Tony.
"Right. Better clench up, Legolas."
Tony grabbed Clint around the waist, and flew up, dropping him onto the roof of a building high enough to see.
"Thor, you've gotta try and bottleneck that portal. Slow them down. You've got the lightning. Light them up," Steve ordered, before turning to Natasha and Cassandra. "You and me, we stay here on the ground, keep the fighting here," he looked to Bruce. "And Hulk. Smash."
Bruce grinned, and leaped of, jumping into cars for the fun of it.
Cassandra charged a Chitauri, and slammed into its neck, twisting around and wrapping her arms around the metal base of its neck. She twisted sharply enough that she snapped the aliens neck. She hopped down, and Natasha glared at her.
"Show off."
"Come on, you can do it too."
so, this will go on longer, i just don't want anything getting cut off
love you 3000-

The Priest of Genes
Meet Seth, acolyte in the Church of Virtue. He’ll be a Priest like his father soon, he just knows it. Sure he didn’t inherit his mother’s preaching power, but he doesn’t mind being the secondary priest at whatever temple he is assigned to. Just as long as he has a library. Meet this genetics textbook. Hmm, that doesn’t belong here. It must have come from somewhere far away, I guess something happened to its owner. I’m sure a studious young man who likes healing could go far with this information, whether he wants to or not. This is my first time really writing anything, so I hope you like it! Please let me know if I make any mistakes; I have a new R&D tech job at a genomics company, so I probably don’t edit as much as some people. I’m shooting for two thousand-ish word chapters released on Sundays, since none of the webnovels I read ever seem to update that day. Underserved Market! Genre is fantasy, possibly progression fantasy. Maybe a tiny bit litRPG if you wait a while and squint really hard, but that’s the most I’m prepared to claim. Hedged my bets on the content warnings, nothing that bad. Cover art from A. W. Gelman
