Brumby sits back down in her wheelchair
Pauline - It's a bit pointless getting back into that thing now Michelle, I saw you standing up and moving around
Brumby - So I still have to stay in it in case someone else comes in, I can't risk anyone else finding out the truth
Pauline looks disgusted
Pauline - Just how long do you intend to keep the lie going for?
Brumby - However long it takes to get what I want
Pauline - Which is a release I suppose?...and the amnesia that's all a lie to get a release too?
Brumby shrugs
Brumby - Suppose so but not just that
Pauline - What else then?
Brumby grins
Brumby - If you must know I get a kick out of making the likes of you and Hagen and Roo run around after me seeing to my every need. I get a kick out of people feeling sorry for me, I even got Raymond to feel sorry for me and that's not easy, she's a hard bitch. I love the attention, for years people have treated me like something they dug off their shoes and now at last I get treated kindly, made a fuss of
Pauline - So even when Morgan put you in the skip and you could have died...even when Patterson threw you down the stairs and bashed you you still kept still and pretended you were paralyzed?
Brumby - I can take a bashing, had plenty of those. what Patterson did to me was mild and I got plenty of sympathy and attention over it
Pauline - And being tied up and put in the skip? Being crushed to death was appealing was it?
Brumby - Yeah well the skip thing, I didn't know Slater would leave me in there that long, I thought she'd come and let me out after a few hours. if I'd known I would have had to blow my cover I guess...anyway it was while I was in the skip I dreamed up the amnesia story
Pauline - Hang on! Slater put you in the skip? You said Morgan did it?
Brumby - Yeah...I hate Morgan more than Slater so I lied
Pauline - So you let her take the blame for something she didn't do?
Brumby - She did throw me from a moving car remember! I very nearly was paralyzed for real, I had to have an operation and it could have gone one way or the other
Pauline - Yes well the fact remains it was a success and you've lied to everyone for months, frankly I am ashamed of you
Brumby - Big deal! I still hate you as much as I ever did, I had to pretend otherwise to fit in with the amnesia...I had to pretend I had forgotten how I feel for you
Pauline - You have to tell the truth now Michelle
Brumby - No! no way!...and if you blow my cover I'll hate you for life
Pauline - You already hate me for life anyway...
Pauline turns to go
Brumby - Mum! Please don't tell anyone! Please!
Pauline leaves the rec room
Janice runs out of the family court with tears streaming down her face. Eileen and Maureen emerge a moment later and watch as Janice gets in her car and speeds away
Maureen - So we got what we achieved then..... permanent ban until Tommy is 18!
Eileen looks delighted
Eileen - I am delighted with this outcome. Now Janice will finally get the punishment she dearly deserves for all her wrongdoing

Pauline is standing in front of Vera
Pauline - I can't be her carer anymore Miss Bennett
Vera - Really? And may I ask what brought this on? You always seemed very keen before
Pauline - Now I've changed my mind, she abuses me all day long and enough is enough, she may be my daughter but even I have a limit on what I can take from her
Vera - Who would you suggest takes over as her carer?
Pauline - Kelly Webster...I think she is the most appropriate choice
Vera - Very well I can ask her if she'll be willing to do it....can I take it you wish to move cells too?
Pauline - Yes, please
Vera sighs
Vera - I wish you women would realize that this is not a hotel
Pauline - Yes well Michelle's dorm is only a two-bed dorm, if Kelly takes over as her carer there will not be room for three of us in that cell
Vera -Fair enough, point taken. Just don't expect me to make a habit of allowing this
Pauline - I won't....oh Miss Bennett I wanted to ask is there any news on my sentencing date?
Vera - Yes, as a matter of fact, I was going to see you today about it anyway. Your sentencing hearing is set for tomorrow morning
Pauline - Oh that's perfect timing, I hear it will be easier for me to put in for a transfer then?
Vera - Yes convicted and sentenced prisoners have more rights to ask for a transfer than remand prisoners do....thinking of leaving us are you?
Pauline - I feel it may be for the best if I'm not in the same prison as Michelle
Vera - For once I happen to agree...I dislike family members being in the same prison, it's always a recipe for trouble
Eileen is sitting in her lounge with a coffee and a magazine as someone hammers at the front door, she opens and Janice burst in carrying a cardboard box
Eileen - You are banned from being here! You heard what the judge said you can't see Tommy ever!
Janice tosses the box down
Janice - These are a few of Tommy's toys and stuff that are still at my place, he'll be wanting them
Eileen - That's fine...but you still shouldn't be here, you have to contact me via a solicitor if you wish to talk to me, the judge told you that in court...now I can tell them you ignored a court order and you'll be in even more trouble
Janice descends upon Eileen and pushes her against a wall
Janice - Tommy's at school, Maureen's not here, I watched her leave...so it's just the two of us, no other witnesses. I'll just deny I was here, it's your word against mine
Eileen - Well you dropped off the stuff so just go now, I won't tell anyone this time
Janice - No way! I am not leaving this house until we have had a chat about a few things. Today you got a judge to ban me from seeing my child until he is 18, if you think I am going to lie down and accept that then please think again
Eileen - You have no choice but to accept it...
Janice - I plan to appeal it
Eileen - Go ahead and try...you won't win
Janice - I want to know why you've done this to me mother, why you hate me so much?
Eileen - You know why...

Janice - Look Micheal's death wasn't my fault.....
Eileen - Oh yes it was,....you were the one who got him into motorbikes, he was never the slightest bit interested in those deathtraps until you got into them and he had to follow you because he looked up to you, you were his big sister...he was my only son and I lost him thanks to you
Janice - look I warned him to be careful I swear. I loved him too you know, he was my baby brother
Eileen - He never would have been killed if it hadn't been for you
Janice - I just don't accept that! I know you are angry and heartbroken that he died, I am too! But he had his own mind, I never made him do anything
Eileen - You did! He looked up to you and you know it, you led him astray time and time again....and thanks to you I could have lost Maureen too! Thanks to you and your damn job!
Janice - Fine so you hate me and blame me for everything....that doesn't make it alright to make Tommy suffer too. Tommy wants to come home to me and you're making him suffer just so you can punish me
Eileen - He is better off with me in the long run....how can you be sure that a further attempt wouldn't be made on his life by a prisoner with a grudge?
Janice - That wouldn't happen again
Eileen - Don't be silly, you don't know that
Janice - Just stop pretending that his welfare has anything to do with why you're doing this, you're doing it to make me suffer and nothing more. It's cruel on Tommy to take him away from his mother like this, living with me is all he has ever known and he doesn't even know you
Eileen -In time he will get to know me and he will adjust to things, kids are resilient and learn to get used to things
Janice - He won't be here long enough to get used to it I'll tell you that right now! He belongs with me and he will be coming back to me!
Eileen -You've said your piece and now I have nothing more to say to you, please leave
Janice is crying
Janice - Look mum please. don't do this to me...
Eileen - The judge made the ruling not me...
Janice -but you could have it reversed if you wanted to, please
Eileen - Thought you were sure you'd win him back anyway Janice? So why all the tears? Why all the begging if you're so confident you can fight me? Could it be that you actually realize that you probably won't win?
Janice - I just want him back, he's my son
Eileen - Get on your knees and beg if you want him back that badly
Janice - What?
Eileen - You heard girl! On your knees!
Janice falls on her knees
Eileen - Well?
Janice - Please mum! Don't do this to me....don't do it to Tommy, please
Eileen - Are you sorry for your brother's death?
Janice -yes very sorry, but it was an accident, I loved him too, I miss him too.....please stop this desire for revenge on me it won't achieve anything, it won't bring Michael back
Eileen - If you want to see Tommy so badly maybe I'll let you see him for one hour a week
Janice (angry)- One hour? That's not enough...
Eileen -Don't interrupt! I hadn't finished what I was saying!..... Maybe I'll let you see him for one hour a week if you pay me $100 a time to see him
Janice looks furious
Janice -$100! You have to be joking! I can't afford that
Eileen - Then you won't see him, will you...I'm sorry Janice but that's the deal, take it or leave it
Janice stands back up
Janice - This isn't over Mother!
Janice leaves to the sound of Eileen laughing
Kelly is with Vera
Kelly - Stepping down? Did she give a reason why?
Vera - She said she's tired of Tucker's abuse....so Webster are you interested in the job or not?
Kelly - Well I dunno...
Vera - She seemed keen for you to have it
Kelly - Yeah...well Paul and I are good friends. I wouldn't like to let her down
Vera - So you'll do it?
Kelly - Yeah I suppose so
The women are in the dining room as Kelly joins Pauline
Kelly - I've just been with Bennett, she told me you want me to take over as Brumby's carer
Pauline - Yes that's right, what did you say?
Kelly - I said I would
Pauline - Thanks Kel
Kelly - Yeah but Paul...why? I thought you were both getting on well?
Pauline - We were until she told me she still hates me
Kelly - She has her memory back now?
Pauline - I don't know, she just gave me a mouthful of abuse and that was it
Kelly - I knew she was faking, the cheeky cow
Pauline - Anyway my sentencing hearing is tomorrow, I pleaded guilty so no need for a trial. After I'm sentenced I'm going to ask for a transfer to Barnehurst I believe it's for the best
Janice is signing in in reception as Vera arrives
Vera - How nice of you to join us Jan! A couple of hours you said, you've been gone half the day!
Janice - Well that couldn't be helped, Vera. I'm here now
Vera - How did it go? Did you win back custody?
Janice shakes her head and bursts into tears
Janice - It's been made even worse than before Vera
Vera comforts Janice
Pauline is in her cell packing as Brumby sits in her wheelchair and watches
Brumby - So you decided to keep quiet about it?
Pauline - Yes
Brumby - Why mother?
Pauline - I'm hoping in time you will do the right thing and tell the truth yourself
Brumby - That's not very likely!
Pauline - Kelly will be here in a minute...
Brumby - Good, will be glad to see the back of ya, keeping up the pretense of not hating you was getting a bit much for me
Pauline sighs and picks up her belongings as Kelly arrives
Pauline - She's all yours
Pauline leaves
Brumby - Bye mother!
Kelly lays her stuff out on the bed
Mr and Mrs Campbell are in their lounge as the phone rings
Mrs Campbell answers
Mrs Campbell - Hello?......ah Mr Fletcher! Good to hear back from you so soon!......oh you have? Excellent news!.....yes see you in the morning, goodbye!
Mrs Campbell hangs up and turns to her husband
Mrs Campbell - That was Mr Fletcher....he and Mrs Maxwell have decided to buy our house, they want to finalize the details in the morning
Vera is in the staffroom with Colleen
Colleen - Did Dr. Weissman see Latham today?
Vera sighs
Vera - Yes and it was a total waste of time, she maintains that she isn't lying about seeing Tess Wilson hanging and Weissman doesn't think she needs to return to Ingleside
Colleen - So what will we do with her? She can't stay in solitary forever
Vera - No but she can be moved to Isolation indefinitely...which is what I want you to do once you finish your break
Colleen - Are you sure that's wise?
Vera -Yes if Latham wants to play games she will find she can play them all by herself in isolation
The rec room
Pauline and Cheryl are sitting together
Cheryl - Kel told me she's taken over from you as Brumby's carer?
Pauline - Yes that's right
Cheryl - Any reason why?
Pauline looks annoyed
Pauline - It's like I told Kel, fed up with her attitude towards me... I'd rather talk about something else
Cheryl - Fair enough....have you seen much of Hartley this evening?
Pauline - No why?
Cheryl - I sold her another bottle of scotch today, I'm very worried about her drinking. I told her to keep it discreet but I'm not sure if she took it all in. Bennett has already caught her once
Pauline - Maybe you ought to go and check on her if you're that worried?
Cheryl - Yes maybe you're right
Cheryl gets up to leave the room
Cheryl - Back soon Paul
Cheryl leaves the rec room
Colleen shows a downbeat Chrissie into Isolation
Chrissie - Why am I here Mrs Powell?
Colleen -The governor can only keep you in solitary for a limited time, but she can keep you here much longer
Chrissie - But why? I ain't done nothing wrong I keep telling everyone
Colleen - You lied about a prisoner hanging in her cell, that's a pretty sick lie
Chrissie - It wasn't a lie, I keep bleeding telling ya
Colleen - Well I'm not prepared to go over it anymore
Chrissie - I bet you ain't found Tess right? Someones moved the body that must be it
Colleen - Oh stop it, Latham! Out of everyone here I took the most time to try and help you after you lost Elizabeth because I understood what you were going through. But now you're behaving like this I can't understand or help anymore. Even Weissman is at a loss
Chrissie - But you ain't found her right?
Colleen - No and obviously she's escaped hasn't she. And like I told you before if you know anything it's in your best interests to say so now
Chrissie - She was hanging there, that's all I know I swear
Coleen -I don't believe you and neither does Miss Bennett
Chrissie - just bugger off then!
Colleen - Careful Latham! I can still put you on a charge you know, isolation or not
Jenny is in her cell with the door shut, swigging from her bottle, the door bursts open and Janice bursts in. Jenny quickly tries to hide the bottle under her pillow but Janice grabs it
Janice - Well well well fancy that! Alcohol! I just knew you were up to something when I saw the cell door was shut
Jenny (slurred speech) - Please Miss can I have it back? I need it to help me cope in here and it's not doing anyone any harm
Janice - Oh but it's against the rules Hartley, you know that
Jenny sobs
Jenny - Yes but I need it, please?
Janice smirks
Janice - Perhaps you should get on your knees and show me how much you want it, Hartley?
Jenny drops onto her knees
Janice - now beg and maybe I'll let you have it back
Jenny - Please can I have the bottle back Miss?
Janice - How badly do you want it?
Jenny - Very badly...
Janice - You hate this place how much?
Jenny - As much as a person can hate anything...I shouldn't even be here! I was set up!
Janice dangles the bottle in front of her and she makes a grab for it, Janice pulls it away
Janice - Try harder Hartley, beg a bit more
Jenny gets hysterical
Jenny - PLEASE MISS I NEED A DRINK! I'LL DO ANYTHING FOR IT!
Janice - Ah now that's good, we'll have a bit more of that I think. You'd do anything for it huh?
Jenny - Yes anything!
Janice - Lick my shoes with your tongue, they are a bit grubby.....go on!
Jenny reluctantly does so
Janice - If you want your bottle back you'll have to pay me....$20 each time you want a bottle
Jenny wails
Jenny - Please miss I can't afford that! $20 is too much!
Janice tuts
Janice - Oh dear me...
Janice takes the lid off the bottle and pours it all over Jenny's head
Janice - That's for wasting my time Hartley
Jenny gets back up and flings herself on the bed in tears as Janice turns to go, Cheryl is standing there
GATESLAM
PART 2
Back with Janice, Jenny, and Cheryl
Janice - How long were you standing there?
Cheryl - Long enough to see what a sick, sadistic bitch you are
Janice - Prisoners aren't allowed alcohol Gibson, I was merely taking it away that's all
Cheryl - Rubbish! You were playing a sick game with her and you know it...the girl needs help can't you see that
Janice - Don't come all that with me, Gibson, I know it's you supplying her! I'm not a fool. If you cared that much about her problem you wouldn't supply her....now if you'll excuse me
Janice tries to leave but Cheryl blocks her path
Cheryl - Hold your horses! I haven't finished yet!...so maybe I did supply her and maybe I'm a dumb bitch to do so but it still doesn't excuse your actions just now
Janice - How i choose to discipline a prisoner is my affair
Cheryl - That wasn't discipline, that was abuse and you know it
Janice - So? I won't be reporting this so she gets off better in the end, I'm doing her a favour
Cheryl - The only reason you won't report it is to do yourself a favour, you wouldn't want the truth about your conduct to come out
Janice - That might be true but Hartley still comes out of it better....now anything else to say?
Cheryl - Yeah...maybe I'll report you myself
Janice suddenly punches Cheryl in the gut, Cheryl is doubled over
Cheryl - BITCH!
Janice - Not a good idea darling... I'd keep your mouth shut if I were you
Janice leaves the room, Cheryl calls after her
Cheryl - BITCH! I'LL GET YA FOR THAT!
Cheryl sits beside the still quietly sobbing Jenny
Cheryl - Are you ok Hartley?
Jenny sits up and nods her head
Jenny - I just need a drink that's all
Cheryl - Look at you, you're soaking wet, lets get you into some dry clothes
Jenny - No I'm alright
Cheryl - No you're not
Cheryl hands her a towel
Cheryl - Dry your hair, it's soaking
Chrissie is chopping her hair off with a pair of scissors while humming to herself
