Bernice eyes up the gun with a smirk

Bernice - That's a fake, I can tell

Pixie - No it isn't it's a real gun!

Bernice shakes her head

Bernice - I know the difference between a fake gun and a real one, that's a fake for sure

Pixie - It's real, honestly it's real

Bernice - So why don't you use it then? Go on shoot me

Pixie - Erm...

Bernice moves to take the gun and Pixie hits her over the head with it and knocks her out

Kelly has been pulled off of Vicki

Judy - What do you think you're doing you crazy bitch!

Kelly gets into Judy's face in an aggressive way

Judy - Hey hang on a minute, where is that bitch Bernice?

Kelly - Oh isn't she here...dear me I guess she sneaked off while you weren't looking eh. Gone to see Pixie I expect

Judy - You bitch!

Judy runs out of the room

Vicki - Look Webster I never took your money you hear that?

Kelly - Oh relax McPherson, no money of mine even went missing did it, I made it up

Bernice is unconscious on the floor as Judy arrives. Pixie is still holding her fake gun

Judy - Pix love, what the hell happened?

Pixie - Oh it was awful Judy! She threatened me with a fake gun! We had a fight and I took the gun from her, she tried to attack me so I had to hit her to protect myself

Pixie starts to cry as Judy comforts her

Pixie - I was so frightened Judy! At first, I thought it was a real gun

Judy - Well you're safe now honey

Meg, Jim, and Kath are sitting around as Greg brings a pot of tea in from the kitchen

Jim - So you think it was Ferguson?

Meg - Yes, who else would it be?

Kath - You should tell the police

Meg (hostile) - When I want your opinion I'll ask for it!

Greg - Meg! There is no need to be like that to Kath

Meg - Yes there is! I would still like to know why you brought her into my home

Jim - The three of us would like to go ahead with the double wedding idea, we think it would be a nice idea

Kath - Yes and a way to build bridges. This bad feeling between us is not good

Meg - Why do you care so much whether we get on or not Maxwell?

Kath - Well for a start Jim is an old friend of yours and I am marrying him so it would be good if we can get on

Meg - Just because I am friends with Jim does not mean I have to like his wife!

Greg - No but it makes things more pleasant doesn't it

Meg - Well I suppose so...

Kath - Yes well secondly I would like you to have some sort of relationship with my twins

Meg -We have been over this, I want nothing to do with Rodney's kids!

Kath - They might be Marty's, you know that

Meg - Yes but the fact is we don't know do we

Kath - I wish we did believe me...but I feel sure they are Marty's. that is what I truly believe in my heart

Meg - How nice for you

Jim - Look Meg, it would mean a lot to me if you could make an effort to get on with Kath...do it for me if not for any other reason

Meg - Well when do you all intend for this wonderful double wedding to take place?

Greg - As soon as possible really

Jim - We can make it a truly special event, invite loads of guests and have a terrific party afterward

Meg rolls her eyes

Meg - I can see I won't get any peace until I agree to this...so ok let's just do it

Greg hugs her

Greg - It will be a very special day for us all

Kath - And I hope we can start to get on better Meg

Meg gives her a doubtful look

Kath - You should come to mine and Jim's place for a meal tomorrow night so we can discuss the wedding and make plans

Meg - Yes ok, I suppose so

Bernice is carried off on a stretcher

Vera is with Pixie and Judy, she has the fake gun in her hands

Vera - You have some explaining to do Mason!

Pixie - She threatened me with the gun, Miss Bennett, I defended myself that's all

Judy - Yeah that bitch said she wanted to see Pix, I warned her to stay away

Vera - Did she say anything about where she got the gun from?

Pixie - No nothing

Vera - It's a damn good job this is only a fake, we can't have the real thing floating around in here

Pixie - I do agree, I was the one with the damn thing in my face. Luckily I realized pretty quickly that it was only a fake

Judy - Something needs to be done to protect Pixie from that woman!

Vera - It will be Bryant. Daniels will be dealt with for this

Meg and Greg are alone again

Greg - I'm glad you agreed to the double wedding

Meg - I did it for yours and Jim's sake, certainly not for Maxwell's sake

Greg - Yes I realize that...but I do hope in time you might start to get on with her better

Meg - I doubt it, but we'll see

Greg - And she's right about the twins, you could be their grandmother yet you have not even attempted to spend any time with them

Meg - My feeling is they are Rodney's children. I can't explain why I feel that way but I do

Greg - You should at least try and spend time with them, see how you feel

They sit in silence for a moment

Greg glances at the wall

Greg - I still think we should tell the police about that

Meg - I know Ferguson is behind it so no need

Greg - I don't get why that should make a difference. We should still notify the police

Meg shakes her head

Meg - I want to deal with her myself

Greg - The way you carry on about her scares me, it really does. I don't like you when you're like this. You're like a totally different Meg to the one I know and love

Bernice is sitting up in bed in the infirmary as Vera arrives

Vera - How's the head?

Bernice -Painful, what else do you think?... I hope you threw Mason in the pound?

Vera - What for?

Bernice looks incredulous

Bernice - What do you mean what for? For attacking me of course

Vera - She was only defending herself wasn't she, can hardly punish her for that

Vera takes the gun out of her pocket and waves it in Bernice's face

Vera - Where did you get your toy gun from?

Bernice - That isn't my bloody gun! It was Mason's. she tried to threaten me with it

Vera - She says it's your gun, you threatened her with it

Bernice - She is lying once again

Vera - I believe her... I'll ask you again where did you get your toy gun from?

Bernice - Just leave me alone, my head hurts!

Vera - Suit yourself, I was merely trying to spare you from a grilling from Mr Moran in the morning that's all....but if you don't want to do yourself a favour then that's your choice isn't it!

Bernice - I only hope Mr Moran has enough sense to see the truth here!

Vera leaves Bernice alone

Bernice (to herself) - Damn you Mason you bitch!

Judy and Pixie are sitting drinking coffee in Pixie's cell

Judy - I'm going to ask if we can share love

Pixie - But why Judy?

Judy - I don't like the idea of you in here on your own

Pixie - I'm a big girl you know, I'm perfectly fine on my own

Judy - Yes but even so...

Pixie - Any way you share with Vicki. She seems an awfully nice young lady and you seem to get on so well

Judy - -Yeah we do, she's a good kid

Pixie - So stay with Vicki, Judy! She will probably feel awfully upset if you ask to change cells

Judy -No love, I'm sure she'd understand

Pixie - To tell you the truth Judy I prefer being on my own

Pixie - Yes, after years of being kept awake by other people's snoring all night long its a nice change to have some peace and quiet at night

Jim - Well that went better than we could have hoped didn't it

Kath - Yes, she still doesn't really like me though. She is only agreeing to this double wedding for yours and Greg's sake, certainly not mine

Kath - I still wish she would make an effort to see the twins

Jim - Maybe tomorrow night when she comes to dinner she will?

Kath - I hope so, I feel she should be involved in their lives

The doorbell goes

Jim - Bit late for visitors?

He goes to the door to answer

Mark is next door with Shanice

Mark - So they had nothing on me so they let me go

Grace - Not quite..this is all on police file now so in the event of any more occurrences we will be on it right away and Mark will be a suspect. We warned him of that and he'd be a fool to try anything else now

Kath still doesn't look happy

Grace - I'm sorry I really am, if we had something on him we would have charged him. The fact he sent you a card and some flowers just aren't enough to go on

Jim - Well thanks for your help Inspector, we appreciate it

Grace - If anything else should happen don't hesitate to contact me right away

Jim - Yes thank you, we will

Mark makes his way down the stairs carrying his suitcase

Mark - I'm leaving Mrs Battersby

Shanice looks at him in surprise

Shanice - You don't have to leave

Mark - Yes I do. I can't stay here when everyone thinks I'm guilty. I know you think it too

Shanice - Yeah but like, it don't bother me. You can do what ya bleeding well like to Karen for all I care!

Mark - Yes but the point is I didn't do it and I can't stay here when no one believes me. Even Kyle thinks I did it

Shanice - You really don't have to leave, but if you really want to then I can't stop ya

A subdued Mark leaves

Shanice watches him go with a hint of genuine sadness on her face

It is morning time as Kath knocks at Shanice's door

Shanice answers

Shanice - Yes Karen, what is it this time?

Kath - I want you to warn that creep to stay away from us

Shanice - I can't do that...

Shanice - No I can't do it because he isn't here. He packed his bags and left last night

Kath looks surprised

Kath - Really? I didn't expect him to have the decency to do that. Hopefully, now that will mean the end of the harassment. He finally realizes its time to give up

Vern - A little birdie told me that you are getting married soon Mrs Morris!

Vern - I love weddings me, I hope perhaps I will get an invite?

Meg - Yes you can come if you like, we are planning a double wedding with some friends so it will be a big affair

Vern - It sounds wonderful

Marina sits with them

Marina - I am getting married myself you know..to my Clifford

Vern - When?

Marina - Tomorrow Vern...

Vern - first I've heard of it

Marina - Clifford and I didn't want to make a big fuss about it. It will be a small registry office affair with a few of our closest friends

Meg finishes her coffee and gets up

Meg - Well time I got on with my work

Meg leaves them alone

Marina grins

Marina - She really doesn't like me much! I try my best to be nice to her and it gets me nowhere

Meg bumps into Joan in the corridor

Joan - I'm glad I've seen you, I wanted a word

Meg - I'm listening...

Joan -I don't know who the hell you think you are ringing me up at home like you did last night but it was way out of line, my own time is my own time I don't expect it interrupted like that

Meg - What do you expect after you...

Joan angrily cuts her off

Joan - And that's the other thing, how dare you make such outrageous accusations. I won't stand for any more of it and I mean that. I had nothing to do with it and I advise you to accept that pretty damn fast

Meg - Good performance at being innocent Joan, but we both know you were behind it so no point pretending otherwise, it's wasted on me

Back with Vern and Marina

Marina - Have you caught her saying anything to herself yet?

Vern - No nothing yet

Kath - Is anything wrong?

Sandra and Kyle are sitting in the beer garden of a country pub. Kyle has changed out of his uniform. Sandra has a glass of wine while Kyle has what appears to be a pint of beer

Sandra - We're a long way out, it's unlikely anyone will see us here

Kyle - This beats school any day....and you are great letting me have a beer

Sandra - My darling, I'm not your mother. I'm not here to stop you from having a nice drink

Kyle - What will we do today?

Sandra - I thought we could have a nice spot of lunch here and then head off for a walk, there is some beautiful scenery around here

Bob - Sister Hall says you are well enough for release from the infirmary now

Bob - Well she didn't believe you and nor do i

Bernice - Well it's the truth, I can't tell you any more than that

Bob - I advise you to leave Mason alone, you will only make a bad situation even worse on yourself by carrying on like this

Bernice sits looking angry

Bob - I am sending you to solitary for 24 hours

Bernice - WHAT!.. YOU CAN'T DO THAT! I'M THE VICTIM HERE!
