《Grimm Season 6 Episode 14: In the Nick of Time》Chapter Four

Jorge was at a desk, frantically scratching a piece of charcoal to some paper when Nick and the others walked into his room. There were other charcoal drawings surrounding him - on the floor, in the bed, on shelves.
Jorge looked awful. His black hair was tangled and oily, he had huge bags under his eyes like he hadn't slept for days, and the buttons on his shirt were in the wrong holes.
"Mr.Thompson," Nick said, trying to get the frantic man's attention. "My name is Detective Burkhardt, this is Detective Griffin, Sergeant Wu, and" Nick looked at Trubel. "Theresa."
"I'm a criminology student," Trubel offered up, raising her hand. Wu made a face and Hank smiled at him.
"We're investigating your fiance's disappearance," Hank said.
Jorge stood up quickly. "You think she's still alive?!" he asked hopefully as he joined the semicircle of people standing by his doorway.
"Unless you know something you aren't telling us," Nick suggested.
"I didn't kill her," Jorge said quickly, inching towards hysterics. "I want to find her, but they all say I'm crazy. They all say it wasn't real, but I think they're wrong. I saw what I saw!"
"Mr.Thompson-" Hank interrupted. He felt like he was looking at himself from a few years ago; he had been losing his mind until Nick told him that he wasn't seeing things.
"No! I'm not crazy! I saw what I saw! A witch took my fiance!" Jorge said. His eyes were wide and wild. He was waving his hands chaotically trying to emphasize his innocence.
"Mr.Thompson, we need you to relax and walk us through what happened," Hank said calmly.
Jorge took a deep breath and nodded. He brushed his messy hair out of his eyes before beginning his story. "Jordan and I were going on a hike before our wedding. It was my idea. I thought it would be fun," Jorge said, losing his composure. "Jordan didn't want to go, but I convinced her," he whimpered. Jorge looked pleadingly back and forth between Hank and Nick. "It's my fault. It's my fault," he cried.
"If you want us to find her, you have to tell us what happened," Nick said gently. "We want to help you, but you need to tell us what happened next."
"Everything was going great," Jorge continued, "But, then, we got lost, and we missed our dinner reservation at Raven and Rose, and the map got ruined. Jordan got mad at me and I yelled at her," he said.
"You two got in an argument?" Nick clarified, looking at Hank.
"I know it sounds bad, but I didn't hurt her. She went off, and I felt guilty and tried to find her." Jorge paused and looked wildly between Nick, Hank, and the others. "I looked everywhere and couldn't find her. Then, all the sudden, she showed up behind me. She said she wanted to show me something or something like that..." Jorge sounded genuinely confused. "We heard a bunch of birds and saw a cabin and then," Jorge paused. He was shaking his head back and forth.
"Then?" Nick asked
"This is where it gets hard to explain. I know it sounds weird, I swear to God I know how this sounds!" Jorge shouted.

"Then?" Trubel asked impatiently.
"Jordan stopped walking and wouldn't answer me. I went over to her, and I got stuck, too."
"Stuck?" Hank asked.
"It was crazy! I couldn't move at all - my arms, my legs, my head. I could only kind of move my eyes, but even that was hard!"
"And the same thing happened to Jordan?" Nick asked.
"Yes! We were both stuck until this old woman came out of the cabin and walked over to us. She said something about Jordan being pretty. Then she touched her face and said something in some other language...?"
"Was it German?" Trubel asked. Nick shot her an irritated look, but Jorge got excited.
"Yeah, I think so! How did you know?" Jorge demanded enthusiastically.
Trubel shrugged. "Lucky guess."
"Anyway," Jorge continued. "The old woman kind of transformed into this thing." While Jorge was explaining, Wu was looking at some of the pictures that Jorge drew. Some looked like bird Wesen and others looked like a decaying corpse.
"Jordan could move after that. The old woman grabbed her wrists and Jordan fell on the ground like she was in pain. That's when Jordan's face started to change. It sort of rippled and looked kind of bird-like. She saw her reflection in a puddle and freaked. She looked as scared as I was," Jorge started sobbing. "This other bird person came out of the cabin then and took Jordan inside. She was gone," he cried.
"Have you ever seen Jordan's or anyone else's face ripple like that before?" Nick asked.
"No, just Jordan and the old woman. And I guess the other bird person, too." Jorge was breathing deeply, trying to regain what little composure he had had.
"What happened after Jordan went inside?" Hank asked.
"The old woman said something in German and told me to leave. I tried to follow Jordan, but I got stuck. That was when the old woman sent me flying across the forest and I hit my head. When I woke up, it was light outside, and I couldn't find that cabin. I ran around looking for Jordan, but I couldn't find her or anyone else."
"Was the cabin on the trail?" Hank asked.
"No, it was in the woods somewhere, but I'm not sure exactly because Jordan and I were lost when we found it."
"Did the old woman look like this?" Wu asked, holding up one of Jorge's drawings of the corpse-like creature.
"Yes," Jorge said, snatching the drawing away. He scrambled back over to the desk and picked up another drawing. "This is what Jordan looked like. And this is that other girl."
Nick and Hank looked at the images Jorge held up. One looked like a songbird Wesen and the other looked like an owl, a Scharfblicke.
"Can we keep these as evidence?" Nick asked.
"Yeah," Jorge said, handing the pictures to Nick. "Yeah, of course. Take anything that you want. Whatever you need to find my fiance." Nick nodded.
"Thank you for your time," Hank said. "We will do our best to find her. If you think of anything else, let the staff know. We will leave our number with them."
"Thank you," Jorge said. "Thank you," he repeated, shaking Nick's and Hank's hands.

The group began to file out of the room.
"Wait!" Jorge said. Everyone turned to look at him. "Do you think I'm crazy?" he asked.
"I think stress can cause people to see things that they normally wouldn't," Nick explained.
"No one sees the world the same way," Hank tacked on.
"And crazy is relative," Wu added.
Trubel rolled her eyes before stepping forward."You aren't crazy," she said bluntly. She walked out the door before anyone could come up with a response to her comment.

Nick left his business card with some of the staff members on the sixth floor. He gave his card to Janice, too, and she dutifully ripped it to pieces and threw it in the small trash can next to her.
The group left the building, piled into the Charger once more, and began the long drive back to Portland.
"Should we talk to Jorge's family while we're in town? Maybe they know more about Jorge and Jordan's relationship." Hank suggested.
"I don't know," Nick said. "It really seemed like Jorge was urging us to find his fiance. He admitted to getting into an argument which he probably wouldn't do if he had something to hide."
"There were statements from their coworkers in the case file. They all said that Jorge and Jordan seemed like they were in love and happy," Wu said, remembering details from the files she had been looking through.
"There was a cop that already interviewed some of the family when she dropped off Jorge. She said that the family felt the same way," Trubel added.
"Then we skip talking to the family," Nick said. "For now."
"What if they had something to do with it?" Hank asked. "If they didn't approve of Jordan, they could have set something up."
"Jorge said the trip was his idea," Nick said.
"Which makes him our main suspect, again," Wu added.
"Yeah, but if he planned on killing Jordan, why would he have set up dinner reservations?" Trubel asked.
"To make it look like he didn't do something to his fiance," Nick said.
"Or he didn't plan on killing her," Hank added. "Sometimes, people snap."
"But it wouldn't make any sense if Jorge was making up this story to hide his fiance's murder. Everything he's saying makes sense, in a weird, the-world-is-not-what-you-think kind of way," Wu said.
"If he was making it up, wouldn't he invent some kind of hiking accident and skip the mental institution part?" Trubel asked. "He didn't have to talk about Wesen at all."
"Maybe he's going for the insanity plea," Nick suggested.
"And maybe he's Wesen," Hank said. "He would know talking about Wesen could make him sound crazy."
"He didn't woge," Trubel said.
"But he also seemed to understand how strange the idea of animal-people sounded like he didn't fully grasp it himself. He didn't know what a Scharfblicke or Hexenbiest was," Nick said.
"Or a Seltene Nachtigall," Wu added.
Nick and Trubel turned their heads to give Wu a confused and questioning look. Hank looked at Wu's casual face in the rear view mirror. "A what?" Trubel asked.
"It's what the fiance is. At least, that's what she looks like according to these pictures. It's a nightingale Wesen," Wu explained, looking at the images that Jorge drew.
"So, the fiance is Wesen," Nick said.
"But was she before?" Trubel asked.
Everyone looked at her like she was crazy.
"What?" she asked defensively. "It sounded like she was surprised to turn into Selten whatever. She would have known she was Wesen already, right? She had to be like twenty something years old. She would know if she was Wesen."
"But Wesen can't be created, right?" Hank asked.
"Juliette was," Trubel said.
Everyone in the car started looking out their windows and fidgeting. Juliette, despite everything that had happened with Eve, was still a sensitive subject.
"Just saying," Trubel said.
"Rosalee would probably know," Nick said.
"Then, I guess we're going to the Spice Shop," Hank said. Nick started pulling out his phone and dialing Rosalee's number.
*************
Monroe didn't have any clock repairs to do, so he was working in the Spice Shop with Rosalee. It was a pretty slow day, so they decided to work on some other projects.
"It should not be this hard," Monroe complained. "We've already done this before."
He was trying to put together another baby mobile, this time for his own children.
Monroe was sitting on the floor with scattered pieces surrounding him on all sides. He was currently trying to untangle some of the strings of the mobile with foxes and wolves at each end. Rosalee was sitting on the floor with him, trying to help him untangle the mess when she heard her cell phone ring. It was on the counter in the other room.
"Oh, no," she said. She stood up carefully and had to step her way around the pieces of baby mobile and packaging on the floor to reach her phone. She was able to get to it on the fourth ring.
"Hello?"
"Hey, Rosalee," Nick greeted.
"It's Nick," Rosalee mouthed to Monroe. "I'm at the Spice Shop with Monroe. Here, I'll put you on speaker." Rosalee tapped her phone screen and walked closer to Monroe.
"Hi, Nick!" he shouted. "What's up, man?" He had finally gotten the strings untangled and was now looking for the right pieces to click together.
"We need your help with a case. Can we come over there in a few hours?" Nick asked.
Monroe got two pieces to fit together. "Yes!" he shouted triumphantly.
"Great," Nick said. "We'll be there."
"What?" Monroe asked, confused and his attention pulled away from his project.
"See you then, Nick," Rosalee said and hung up the phone. She laughed at Monroe and walked over to him to help him with the baby mobile.
When they finally finished, Rosalee said, "We did it! Only two more to go."
"Maybe we should take a break," Monroe said feeling overwhelmed. Rosalee leaned over and kissed Monroe. "Okay," she said.
*************
While Nick was on the phone, Wu dialed the number for Raven and Rose. A few minutes later, he hung up and said, "A Jorge Thompson and Jordan Graham failed to show up for their reservation on the 14th. The restaurant tried calling Jorge and it went straight to voicemail. Also, they just had a cancellation at 7:00, so if you guys are interested..." Wu said.
"So, Jorge was telling us the truth," Nick said.
"Which makes this a lot more complicated," added Hank.
