《The Flash Oneshots》Reader and Barry Part 2

"Do you really think he can run that fast?" Dr. Snow asks Dr. Wells. I barley listen to his response. Tapping my foot anxiously I wait for Barry to step out of the van. For what ever reason I have grown extremely attached to him in just the two days that I have come to know him.
After the incident with the car Barry and I went back to the station. I didn't see Barry for the rest of the day for obvious reasons. I didn't know him before. So why should I already miss him?
Last night he stopped me before he went home with Joe and asked me to came to dinner with them. I turned him down not wanting to interfere with their reunion. I then promised him we would go to STAR Labs the next day and here we are.
Cisco's whistle brings my attention back to the van. The van that now has Barry Allen standing in its doorway in a very very tight red suit with a geeky hat to top it off.
Not being able to the giggles that arise in my chest Barry frowns at me. "Do I really look that bad?" When he gets no response he steps off of the stairs and close to me.
"This is the only thing they could find that wouldn't burn up," Barry whispers in my ear reminding me of his lack of dress in the truck. I feel my face heat up as he turns away from me and toward Dr. Snow who checks his suit monitor.

"So," I look at the man beside me. We are walking to know where in particular. Just walking to think. We just left STAR Labs. "So," he smiles at me. "You know," he begins, "you are my adoptive fathers partner. Don't you think it's a little weird that you would be hanging out with me?" He mocks.
Turning I lightly punch his arm, "I'm not the one who ran into someone at a coffee house then revealed that they had powers!" I mock him back. "Tell me what does the partner of Joe West do for fun?"
Looking over my shoulder I give him a big smile. "Come on I'll show you." Taking his hand I pull him the opposite way. "Are you kidnapping me Ms. [last name] ?" He jokes noticing that we are heading to the outskirts of Central. "Maybe," I tell him still holding his hand. "Why don't you just tell me where we are going and we can be there in two seconds flat?" Stopping directly in front of him I tell him to close his eyes. "First of all," I double check that his eyes are closed and I pull out a key and unlock the chain on the door in front of me, "that would ruin half the fun and secondly," opening the door I reach for his hand once more, pulling him in. He keeps his eyes closed the whole time making me smile. He trusts me, my heart flutters. "You can't stop worth crap. With your luck we would end up smashed on a tree."

"Hey! That's not fair," he exclaims with his eyes still firmly shut. Letting go of his hand I go and grab my favorite thing in the world. "Where did you go?" He asks with a hint of worry in his voice. He begins to peek his eyes open. "Uh uh!" I tell him giving him my hand once more.
"Okay now we are going up stairs," I look back at him, "here's the first one." He holds my hand feeling his footing by his senses. Looking at the man I can understand why the Captain puts up with his tardiness, why Joe took him in, and why Iris though she might not admit it has fallen for him. "And here's the last one." "Okay," he tells me. My back is against the door and we are both on the last step. "Barry," I breath. He's so close. Reaching forward he rest his forehead on mine. We stay like that for a second eyes closed just breathing. "Okay open your eyes," I tell him pushing open the door behind me.
Stepping out in to the chilly night air Barry looks up at the star lit sky. It's beautiful. "It's my thinking spot," I tell him. "Let's sit."
"What is this place?" He asks staring at the city below us. "It's an old Cinemark. They cleaned it out, ripped the seats, the screens everything and now it's just here. All alone. That's why I like it. It reminds me even when your the loneliest you can get there is still a whole world around you full of unimaginable beauty." Hanging my legs over the roof I open the tub of Blue Bell Ice Cream. "I usually store tubs of ice cream here for nights like this." Grabbing my spoon I take a bite. "What?" I ask as I notice his stare. "Thank you," he places a hand in mine, "for showing me this." "Thank you for trusting me," I tell him honestly. It's been a while since I felt I could trust someone with this side of me. I trust Joe everyday with my life, but this is different this is my soul my reason to live that I'm trusting Barry with. "I thought you could use this place to," I tell him handing him my spoon, "your going to need it if you become a superhero." Taking the spoon he eats some of the ice cream we sit not talking just thinking.
I sit back letting him enjoy his first moment of peace since his coma. We sit for hours just watching the city, trading the spoon back and forth. Eventually we both lay back on the roof.
"I wish we could just stay up here forever," Barry breaks the silence. Turning on my side I look at him. "I can forget about my mom, my dad, what ever this is," he say pointing to himself, "it's like it's all on hold." He turns to look at me seeing if I understand. When he looks in my eyes he sees something that gives him courage because he than leans closer to me and places his lips on mine.

It's soft. Hesitant. But beautiful all the same. "I'm-" he tries to explain but I shush him with a kiss on the tip of his nose.

That became our spot. The spot where if work became to much or a meta got in our heads we would meet there and clear our minds.
Barry decided to become a superhero. They call him the blur. The only people who know who he truly is behind that mask is Joe and me. Joe found out about Barry when we stopped Martin.

Today Joe and I are sitting on patrol at the bank that Martin hit last week making sure that no new metas come out. "You and Barry uh?" Joe says out of the blue causing me to choke on my burger. "Here," Joe hands me my Big Belly Burger cup chuckling. "What makes you say that?" I ask him wiping my mouth on my napkin. "Just the way you both look at each other. And," he turns more directly toward me, "that look that he used to give Iris is gone. Now he looks at you with that same look." I open my mouth not knowing what to say. I mean we kissed...but neither of us talked about it afterwards. I just figured that it was just the moment and he was back at admiring Iris. But Joe says he doesn't look at her that way anymore. Is it because of me?
"Let me tell you something that boy was in love with Iris for 17 years and never told her. You need to make the move," with that he turns his head to the bank. "No meta is going to be stupid enough to hit the bank again so close to Martin." With that he starts the engine.

Once we get back to the CCPD department Singh comes rushing out of his office "Allen!" He growls in anger. "Where the-" he stops correcting himself, "heck is he?" I look at Joe. We both know that he has been preoccupied with training. "Captain," Joe begins but I cut him off taking this opportunity to do as Joe said make the first move, "I'll go check on him," I rush almost tripping over my chair. Joe hides a chuckle at my desperation. Singh sighs, "I need that file like yesterday," running a hand through his hair he says, "tell him to get me the file today." With that he turns on his heels.
"Well what are you waiting for?" Joe asks looking intently at the paper in his hands. Frozen. I can't move my legs, "What if he still has feelings for her?" I ask myself more than Joe. "I can't love-date someone who is in love with someone else." Joe puts down his newspaper and stands up placing a hand on my arm. "I would never give my blessing for any one of my kids hearts unless I knew good an well that it was the best thing for them. You [name] are as good as it will get for Barry. And that's saying something because the previous girl that I would have given my blessing had she asked is my daughter," he looks sternly in my eyes. Telling me that he is not lying. "Barry Allen deserves someone like you as you deserve him." Taking a deep breath I give Joe a hug before heading up stairs.

"Barry," I call not wanting to startle him. Sometime he gets so engrossed in what he is working on it's like he goes to another earth. But today when I walk in he isn't staring at the board covered in evidence for his mothers case or examining vials containing who knows what, but spinning in his chair twirling a pencil. "Having fun," I ask sitting myself on the edge of his desk. He stops when he sees me. His hair is wild. He's been running his hands through it, "why are you stressed about?" I ask moving to massage his shoulders.
"Hey," he holds his tongue as I reach a knot, "just this," he points towards a chart of all the people affected by the Particle Accelerator. "All these people, any one of them could be a meta." When the knot below his right shoulder is worked out I move to his neck. "Mmm," he rolls his head back, "that is heaven."
"Barry go on a date with me." I blurt out. I can't see his face so when he doesn't answer and I feel his shoulders tense I start to back track, "never mind," I remove my hands from him and bring them to my face. "It was stupid. Just forget it," I tell him backing up.
Using his speed he puts himself in front of me, "yes," he tries to remove my hands from my face, "you just surprised me that's all." Allowing him to remove my arms I look into his eyes. "I have been contemplating all week on how to ask you. I just thought-" I shake my head fighting a smile Joe was right he is slow. "You know for the fastest man alive you are a bit slow." He looks at me for a second before a mischievous glint appears in his eyes and a smirk begins to form on his beautiful lips. "Slow?" He asks placing a hand on my hip and another under my bottom lifting me up and speeding to his lab table. Then his lips are on mine in a flash. My hands move up to his hair. For that moment I forgot that we were in both of our work places all that mattered was the man before me. The man that saves the city both night and day. With one more kiss to my lips he pulls back, "I am the fastest man alive." He tells me, "I'll always be a second away." "A flash away," I correct him. His eyes light up as a light bulb literally goes of in his head. "The Flash."
