《》Chapter 8

== Enna’s POV ==
He was definitely handsome. I was expecting him to run to me and I was surprised when I was somehow happy to see him. Weirdly, my feet felt right resting on his lap and I didn’t move them away. I knew he came just to find me, but the game of questions and answers was going to begin shortly. If his men were attacked, I was putting everyone at risk, including him. He didn’t seem to be bothered enough to reject me because he didn’t know what I was, so why would he reject me knowing it? Maybe his pack wouldn’t be so understandable, but him?
I had decided when I woke up that I should at least tell him. That also meant telling him away from prying ears. He lifted his eyes to mine, he looked so calm, so ready.
“So, are you going to explain to me what happened yesterday?”
His voice was almost hesitant. I thought that maybe he was scared to break the moment we were having, or to find the truth about me. It’s not really like I’m a monster or anything, we are just not used of people knowing we exist anymore.
“I need to show you for you to understand the story I am about to tell you, but you need to promise me something first…” I know it was unfair to rid him of his own decisions but I was not going to play games with what he was about to see.
“I will promise anything to make you happy, Enna” he answered with a deep serious voice, his hand running along my legs. I must admit, he was probably the sexiest thing I had ever seen and I had seen sexy before, all right.
“You can’t tell anyone. I will trust you with this. You can tell a few of your high rankings for security and things, but this cannot leave your pack. Ever.”

He looked at me, analyzing my face for a few instants before nodding and saying “I promise I won’t tell it to anyone except if it’s a knowledge that people really need to know.”
I took a deep breath and pulled my legs away from him to stand up. He followed the movement and stood up too. “Don’t stand too close” I told him. He took a few steps back, frowning and trying to figure out what I was about to do.
“Here goes nothing” I murmured before I focused.
For the first time in a very long time, I shifted before someone who didn’t know.

== Simon’s POV. ==
She shifted. In a whoosh of air that sent flying dead leaves everywhere, her human form disappeared into thin air, only leaving behind a huge black bird that looked like a raven and croaked at me.
“You are a shifter?!” I asked, my voice perfectly sounding like this was just unbelievable. It croaked again at me. “There is no such things as other shifters, only us, the wolves.”
The bird made a little chirp that sounded mostly like one of her human little laughs when she was making fun of me. A second later, she had shifted back. I was expecting her to stand naked in front of me (not to say hoping) but she was still in her black gown and purple cape. I only then realized that there were not on the floor when she had shifted.
“How did you do that? I mean, with your clothes?” I asked her.
“They are custom…made by a witch. They shift with me.” She answered shrugging.
“Ok, now explain to me why you shifted into a huge bird?” I asked stepping forward to be closer to her.

“Wolves are the most common type of shifters, because you guys are strong. You live in packs, you can fight. Most of the other shifters are rare, almost extinct by now. We’ve been living in hiding forever, we thought that you had all forgotten about us. We only seek to live in peace amongst humans” she explained.
“They are more types of shifters?” I asked, pulling her towards a fallen tree to sit on it. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. Shifters? Other kinds of shifters? It was unheard of as far as I am concerned. Witches, wizards, vampires, even a few others like elves and fairies, we knew existed, or we even had a few contacts with in the last century or so but shifters, I had never heard of.
“Yes, the girl I was with, she shifts into a huge spider. It’s a bit repulsive to be honest, but she is….or was…really sweet. I don’t know how many types of shifters there is, I’ve met a few. There was another boy who could shift into a bird, and the rat girl. I also met someone who could shift into a fish but it wasn’t really practical. Gerard can shift into a massive bull.”
“Who’s Gerard?” I asked, slightly jealous.
“He was the person in the cell next to mine…I think he might be dead now. He was older than me, like a father to me” she said, biting into her bottom lips before letting a huge sigh escape her lips. I could tell it wasn’t easy, but once my blind selfishness got out of the way, the only word that rang into my mind was “cell”.
“A CELL?!” I asked standing up. I could feel the fire into my core, the anger of my wolf almost filled my head entirely with a loud growl.
“I was abducted a few years ago and sent to a facility for testings…” she said, her gaze dropped to the floor where she was playing with the leaved with her bare feet.
“What did they want to test on you?” I asked, dropping to my knees in front of her, holding her shoulders with my hands, trying to make her look into my eyes but she didn't. She didn’t lift her eyes up, she kept them the furthest away from mine.
“They wanted to see if we were compatible…” she whispered.
“Compatible for what?” I asked, almost shaking her. Her gaze lifted to mine before dropping back down. Waves of tears were cascading down her face, crashing to the ground.
“For breeding.”

The Ruined Monks of Rothfield Monastery
Erin is the youngest member of the dark monks; a supernatural brotherhood whose ultimate mission is to improve the dire circumstances of poor, war-torn villages using powers unique to each member. Or so he was led to believe. Erin, like his brothers, does not age, and that is, unfortunately, the only trait he shares with them. He cannot charm or compel like Woodrow, he cannot cast illusions like Knox, he was not swift like Swithin, not powerful like Blake. He was barely an assistant to his dear brother Wilbur, with his herbology and alchemy. He was told to lie low and make himself scarce. That is what he did. The dark monks temporarily reside in abandoned monasteries scattered around the country, feeding the poor and healing the sick, nurturing the monastic lands until it was fertile enough to raise crops and rear animals. As the years passed, they would leave these reformed, repopulated, self-sustaining monasteries and venture froth to help the next settlement. Yet, after years of toiling and quiet servitude, Erin notices that people and the country itself are declining. The villagers look gaunt, the once-lush soil now barren and cracked. He begins to feel disheartened, thinking that their mission is proving futile. Still, their leader Blake is steadfast and charges onward, and lately has his eyes set on a certain monastery in a thick, thorned forest that seems to diminish, even nullify their powers. A thick forest that Erin somehow has a connection to. A thorned glade where an ethereal voice calls his name with one simple request along with a promise:Heal the land, child. Heal the land and I promise to give you sanctuary so long as you stay. I promise to nurture you as you nurture me. As Erin cultivates the land, the land, in turn, gifts all its caretakers with new, enhanced skillsets on top of their unique powers -- skills of protection, healing, and magic. Magic. Erin had long wished to see the world fill with it again. The people, regardless of common or noble blood, still believe that magic will enter this world again. Magic to bless the king like it did the Saints. Magic to dispel the miasma befouling the world. Magic to bring back the fae folk and their many forms. It is up to Erin to forge the many paths leading to a bright future; to build a prosperous paradise that welcomes all races and bloodlines, by mastering the rewards gained through agriculture, horticulture, and animal husbandry, smithing, crafting, and fishing. Erin may also find a lifelong friendship and romance with his neighbor, Claude, if he decides to pursue him, and may even join him in the military campaign outside the monastery. The darkness still lurks outside, after all, and the mastery of his skills, along with a few good friends, may finally be enough to turn the tide in their favor. Most of all, Erin wants to keep the vow he set for himself: to protect everyone and everything he loves until his dying breath.
