'Love is a game of tic-tac-toe, constantly waiting for the next X or O'

Nothing is perfect. But when I saw you with her, I got jealous. Because you two were perfect.

I was contemplating, which was better. An X or an O for someone who already no longer loved me.

If I put down an O, I would win. Three in a row. But so what if I won? Would I regain your love that was long lost in the winds?

If I put down an X, I would lose. Because I broke the chain. However, in my game of tic-tac-toe, X was so restricted, so rarely used.

I wanted to sign off with XOXO everytime I write you yet another unsent letter. But we all know it wasn't possible. X.

That idea, was now a cross. Becoming something foreign.

So now O was the only correct choice? I watched as your mouth formed an O when I told you about my jealousy.

I watched as your fingers formed an X around your lips. Creating a barrier.

I understood, and didn't blame you. Because the only difference in a tic-tac-toe game and love, is that winning didn't matter in the latter.

Because love doesn't always win and doesn't always necessarily need to.
