《Growing Attached To My Competition ✔️》Chapter 45 - Finally Awake

It was very early in the morning and Brody was already awake, in his room, alone.
'2 more hours.'
Brody was watching the clock in his room, waiting for it to tick down so that visitors would be allowed inside the hospital.
He could barely sleep all night, and there was no way he could go back to sleep now.
Brody wasn't hungry, he wasn't thirsty, he just wanted to go and see Adrian.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Sally was already outside Adrian's room when 2 police officers came by. Knowing that she wasn't home, they came to the hospital room to update her about the current situation with Sam.
"Right now, Mr Croyden is still being held in captivity. Rest assured, he is being closely monitored and shouldn't be released any time soon."
"How is he not arrested already?! Everyone saw him STAB my son, there's LITERALLY 3 witnesses and you're what? 'Closely monitoring' him? Is that it?" Sally was angry, angry and frustrated at the lack of justice for her son.
One of the officers was nervous, not daring to make eye contact with Sally as the other officer spoke. "He's being interviewed by a psychologist at a psychiatric hospital as we speak."
Brody overheard this as he stepped into view and joined in on the conversation. "So he's not being arrested?"
"We're really not allowed to disclose this to non-family members." The officer said, identifying that Brody wasn't family.
Sally argued against this as Brody had the right to know as well. "He's my son's boyfriend, and I want him to know this too."
"Plus I'm one of the key witnesses to the attack. That bastard should be in jail!" Brody exclaimed.
"Mr Croyden's parents found the anti-psychotic medication that he hasn't been taking, stashed in his bedroom floorboards. The amount found is probably over 3 months worth of prescriptions. With his mental health possibly playing a factor, a psychological assessment is best to determine how much of his mental health effected his actions, and thus determine how he can be charged." The officer explained.
Brody didn't know Sam had mental health issues, nor did he know he ever had to take any kinds of medication. But that didn't change the fact that he hurt Adrian, so badly too.
"I'm sorry but there really much we can do at the moment, not until the psychologist reviews him."
With the officers leaving, Sally and Brody went into Adrian's room. He was still asleep and breathing normally according to the heart monitor.
Brody was sitting by his side while Sally walked over to her son, and pushed Adrian's hair away from his eyes. "I never got to thank you yesterday, for saving my son's life. If you weren't there, then who knows how far my boy's injuries would be."
Brody was silent as he looked down at the floor, not daring to look at Adrian when he blamed himself for all of this. He wanted to argue back, to say he's the one that brought Sam into Adrian's life in the first place. And because it was Adrian that was dating Brody, he was the reason Adrian's was in this state in the first place.
Sally looked at the boy in his chair, his face was grey, his hair was disheveled and he had large, dark bags under his eyes.
The mother walked over to Brody and sat down next to him. She compressed his hair to make it more uniform looking, as she hugged the boy silently.
~~~~~~~~~~
Adrian was still sleeping an hour later when Sally asked if Brody was hungry. Shaking his head at her, "No not really."
"Would you be a dear then a grab me a sandwich from the canteen? And maybe a bottle of water too?"
Brody nodded as he went to retrieve them.
When he came back inside the room with them, he passed them over to Sally.
Sally opened the sandwich container and took one of them out. She held it out for Brody to take. "Eat. I know you've probably not eaten since last night and you need all the energy you can get."
'I don't deserve to eat.' Brody thought to himself as he rejected the offer.
Sally was persistent as she pushed it towards him closer. "Come on, Adrian wouldn't want to see you like this." She felt a little guilty using her son like this, but it was for a good cause as she knew Brody wouldn't say no after mentioning Adrian's name.

And it was proven right when Brody took it, even if he was picking at it with his fingers.
~~~~~~~~~~~
The bed sheets were rustling awake as Adrian was waking up from his long sleep. The patient opened his eyes and took in the surroundings, to recognise he was in a hospital room.
Adrian went to sit up when he felt the pain in his abdomen. "Shit!" He cursed out at the sharp and sudden pain.
At the sound of the cursing, Sally seemed to pay attention to the noise as she got up to stand up by his side. "Adrian, sweetheart!"
Even if he could say anything, it wasn't quick enough as Sally went to hug her son as fast as a sprinter lunging towards the finishing line.
"Mom. Mom! Gentle." Adrian laughed.
Sally instantly retracted from the hug as she was apologetic. "Sorry, I should have been careful. So, you recognise me?"
Adrian was confused by the question. "Of course I recognise my own mother, what's wrong with you?" Adrian laughed.
"We were scared that you would forget us, after you were hurt and everything."
Adrian looked down at his body and saw the bandages on his body that were underneath the hospital gown. "I was stabbed mom, I didn't get amnesia from it or anything."
"But he hit your head very hard, and there was bleeding! We didn't know how bad the injury was until you woke up."
Adrian nodded slowly as he remembered. "Well I'm still me, nothing missing or anything, apart from a lot of blood and everything of course."
Sally didn't take too kindly to the joke Adrian was laughing at, with one stern and silent look she made him stop laughing, before giving him a gentle kiss to his forehead. "I'm glad I have my son back, perfectly well."
Brody walked back into the room after his phone call to Adam, and gained the attention of the mother and son because of his entrance.
"Adrian." Brody let out in a low whisper.
Adrian smiled back at seeing him instantly. "Hey Brody!" Adrian said very happily.
Brody was still stood by the door, mentally not prepared to know what to say to Adrian when he woke up. The only thing he came up with was, "You're awake."
Adrian nodded back, "Yep, no memory or brain injury as far as I can tell. I feel sore like a bitch though."
With neither of them moving from the spot, Adrian scratched his head nervously, and realised that he had a bandage on it. He was momentarily surprised by it before he spoke to Brody directly. "So, do I at least get a hug? For like, surviving and everything?"
"I-I don't want to hurt you." Brody said.
"Again." Brody whispered to himself quietly so that no one else could hear it.
Adrian was shy, especially since his mother was still right next to him. But he ignored that feeling as he was feeling shameless at the minute. "It will be worth it, just, come here, please?"
Brody nodded as he complied with the injured man's request. He was gentle when he approached the bed, like a baby deer gracing the wilderness.
Brody was still hesitant to hug Adrian, in case he would hurt Adrian even more than he already was.
Adrian was impatient as he pulled Brody down to him, circling his arms around Brody's shoulders as he rested his chin on Brody, ignoring the twinging pain he was now enduring.
It took a while for Brody to finally hug him back, at peace knowing that Adrian really was still alive and well.
"You're okay." Brody whispered into Adrian's neck, pulling him even closer afterwards. "You're okay."
Adrian tried his best to absorb the pain as he held Brody closer. He continued to ignore the pain in his stomach as Adrian felt they both needed this exchange, to feel close to one and another again after almost feeling like he was dying. "Yeah, I'm okay."
