《Baby of the family》part 81

Dec slept extremely well that night,he was completely exhausted from the trauma and emotions of the day,but unfortunately, the good nights sleep didn't make him feel any more refreshed.
In fact he felt worn out.The minute he woke up,the events of the previous day came flooding back.He sat up in bed and shook his head sadly at the thought of it.
He just wanted to get today over and done with and get back on the plane to England the following day.
One thing he was extremely grateful for though was Ant.
He thought about how his best friend had come through for him yet again yesterday.
Dec knew how lucky he was to have Ant in his life and he couldn't imagine how he would ever have coped with things like this without this wonderful man to fall back on.
Dec did worry that he took Ant for granted sometimes. He thought about all the times Ant had been there for him,to comfort him when he was sad or upset,to calm him when he was angry or annoyed,to encourage him when he was nervous or doubtful and to laugh with him when he just needed cheering up.
Ant never gave up on him no matter what and for that Dec was extremely grateful.Dec knew he could be hard work sometimes with his mood swings and crazy emotions that often ran wild, but Ant was always there ready to catch him if he fell,to pick him up,dust him off and encourage him to carry on.
Dec smiled to himself as he got out of bed yawning and stretching, ready for the day ahead.
He thought again about how Ant had comforted him yesterday and made him put things into perspective.
"Thank you Ant" he mumbled to himself as he made himself a cuppa before walking out onto the balcony, glancing down at a man cleaning the empty swimming pool.
Dec was still worrying about how he sometimes took Ant for granted though.Ant did so much for him,but what did Dec give him in return?
Dec hated that thought. He should do more for Ant,but unfortunately Ant wasn't the kind of person to open up and talk about his feelings like Dec did.
Ant was what some might describe as the strong, silent type when it came to emotions and feelings and Dec worried that the fact he wore his own heart on his sleeve and cried so willingly about just about everything that bothered him, might actually be really annoying for Ant.
If it was,Ant never let on.He was the one who always encouraged Dec to talk about the way he was feeling after all,but Dec still couldn't help worrying about it anyway.
Had he become to needy?to reliant on Ant?too whiny?was Ant tired of his crying?his tantrums?his moods?
Was Dec being selfish with everything he expected from his best friend?
He sat down on the sun lounger that occupied most of his balcony and made a promise to himself.
He vowed he would try harder.Be there more for Ant as Ant always was for him,it shouldn't be too hard should it?
"Morning kidda"
Dec was startled out of his thoughts by the cheerful voice coming from the next balcony.
"Morning Ant" Dec smiled "how did you sleep?"
"Not great" Ant sighed "but that's not unusual for me is it?"
"No,I guess not" Dec replied,he was perfectly aware by now how Ant had been suffering from insomnia for many years and he really felt for him.

Dec was out like a light the minute his head hit the pillow every night, easily getting the recommended eight hours sleep, often more,so he couldn't begin to imagine what it was like for Ant who was lucky if he managed three or four hours a night.
Ant had described to Dec what it was like. How frustrating it was to just be staring at the ceiling for hours on end,not being able to drop off.How he was constantly in and out of bed getting drinks, going to the toilet, trying to read in an attempt to make himself more sleepy, but nothing ever worked.Ant just resigned himself to the fact that this was just how it had to be and he just had to learn to function on very little sleep,Dec felt desperately sorry for him though.
"What are you drinking?" Ant enquired, sitting down close to Decs side of the balcony.
"Green tea" Dec grinned.
"Green tea?" Ant laughed "how posh are you?"
"Well, they had some in the welcome pack,so I thought I'd give it a try" Dec grinned "it's really nice, want to try it?"
"No thanks" Ant smiled "I'll stick to my orange juice"
"Don't know what your missing" Dec replied "I'm going straight to sainsbury's when we get back to stock up"
"Oh God" Ant teased "don't be drinking that stuff when we go back to Newcastle, they'll rip the piss out of you something chronic"
"Yeah, they would" Dec laughed "but I can deal with them"
"I'm sure you can" Ant winked playfully.
"Um...I just wanted to say thank you for yesterday Ant" Dec stated, taking on a more serious tone.
"No worries" Ant smiled "that's my job"
"It isn't though is it?" Dec pointed out "why is it your job to look after me?I'm a grown man,I should be looking after myself"
"Declan" Ant laughed "I'm hardly wiping your arse for you every time you go to the toilet am I?I'm just doing what any good friend would do"
"But you go above and beyond that" Dec sighed "you shouldn't have to"
"Didn't know there was a limit to what can be done in a friendship?" Ant questioned.
"Well, that's my point I guess" Dec replied "there is no limit to everything you do for me and I appreciate it so much, but I'm worried it's too one sided, that I get so much from you,but you don't get much in return from me,I'm scared you'll get sick of my neediness one day"
"Well, yeah, you are pretty hard work sometimes" Ant stated.
"What?" Dec asked shocked, looking up from gazing at the pool to his friends face which had a broad grin spread all over it "oh,you're joking?"
"Of course I'm joking you idiot" Ant sighed "Declan,we're best friends and I love you, care about you and worry about you.I don't do anything that any other decent best friend would do"
"I don't do it for you though do I?" Dec asked sadly.
"That's because I don't let you though" Ant pointed out "I prefer to keep quiet about my feelings a lot of the time, but that's my choice, that doesn't make you a bad friend, you're the best friend a guy could ask for"
"Not sure I am" Dec sighed.
"You absolutely are" Ant stated firmly "I wouldn't swap you for the world. You make me laugh more than anyone I know, you're loving, caring and generous and you give the best hugs"
"So do you" Dec beamed "you just give happy hugs most of the time...well apart from yesterday, that was definitely an emotional hug"
"Yeah,I guess I do give emotional hugs and happy hugs" Ant laughed "but everyone needs a hug sometimes. We're just different, you and me Decs, but in other ways,we're so alike, that's why we get on so well"
"Different but alike?" Dec smiled.
"Exactly" Ant replied.
"I just wish you'd talk to me more when something is bothering you, that's all" Dec sighed "I want to be there for you like you always are for me"
"How about I promise to at least try to do that a bit more?" Ant offered.
"Then that would make me very happy" Dec replied.
"I'll do my best then" Ant smiled "can't say I'll succeed, but I will try"
"That's all I ask" Dec nodded.
"You ready for today then?" Ant asked, tactfully changing the subject.
"Ready as I'll ever be I guess" Dec frowned "shall we go and get some breakfast?we're being picked up in an hour"
"Sounds good" Ant smiled "give me ten minutes to have a quick shower, then I'll be with you"
"Ok" Dec smiled "I'm gonna have one too, come and knock on my door when you're ready"
"Will do" Ant replied "can Declan come out to play Mrs Donnelly?"
"Shut up,you fool" Dec laughed "go and get ready"
The boys day was soon underway as they were taken to several building sites to be shown the plans for new schools, public toilets and play areas for children.
It was much less traumatic than the previous day.It was hopeful and inspiring as Ant and Dec saw first hand where all the Comic Relief donations were being spent. They finished the day feeling very positive about their trip, but nevertheless, they were still looking forward to going home the next day.
The boys swore they would never forget the places they had been in Kenya and the people they had met,but they had done their bit and it was now time to get on with the next step in their careers
Once they'd got over their jet lag,a couple of days after arriving back in London,Ant and Dec had a meeting with Simon Cowell about the new programme.
"What's he doing here?" Dec winked as he spied the television presenter Piers Morgan sat at the large oval table.
"All in good time Declan" Simon smiled "you'll soon find out"
"Stevo" Dec nodded towards Stephen Mulhern, who was grinning at him cheekily "didn't expect to see you here"
"All will soon be revealed my friend" Stephen laughed.
They were soon joined by the actress Amanda Holden and many other people who would be working on the programme.
"So this is it" Simon grinned.
"This is what?" Ant asked curiously as he took a biscuit from a plate in the middle of the table and shoved it whole into his mouth.
"This is it" Simon repeated "this is the Britain's Got Talent gang?"
"Really?" Dec asked, glancing curiously at Piers,Stephen and Amanda "how do you mean?"
"I mean exactly what I said young Declan" Simon replied "this is it.We've got everyone we need. You and Ant as presenters and me,Piers and Amanda as judges"
"Umm...great" Dec frowned "but why is Stephen here?we're the presenters, after our job are you Stephen?"
"Nah,I'm too good for that gig" Stephen joked to his pal "Simon has got something way better up his sleeve for me?"
"Oh yeah?" Dec turned towards Simon curiously.
"A spin off show" Simon smiled "it's called Britain's Got More Talent and it will involve Stephen chatting to some of the contestants, playing daft games and you two will be there too"
"We will?" Ant asked.
"Yeah" Simon nodded "you know, just for a bit of extra fun,you won't be there for the whole episode, just at the start, you can join in the games,Stephen has already got some ideas for that"
"Oh God help us" Dec grinned playfully.
"It's going to be great" Simon smiled "you'll see"
"Yeah,it will" Piers piped up.
"But Piers Morgan as a judge?" Ant laughed teasingly "really scraping the barrel there aren't you Simon?"
"Oi" Piers snapped back playfully "I am here you know,I can hear you"
"Good, you were supposed to" Ant grinned.
Dec giggled at this lighthearted exchange between Ant and Piers. The truth was that Ant and Dec had actually became friends with Piers over the last few years and just loved to wind him up.
Piers was like marmite to the great British public,he was either loved or hated, there was no in between and Piers loved to play up to that label, taking great pleasure in arguing with anyone who had the audacity to have a different view point from his own, this was exactly why Simon thought he would make a great judge,he was brutally honest and to the point, just like Simon himself was,but Simon also knew that having someone so lovely and caring like Amanda on the panel would even out the balance.
"So we're all sorted then?" Simon announced to everyone in the room "we're ready to roll?"
"Er...when exactly will that be?" Dec enquired "when do we start filming?"
"As soon as possible" Simon replied "everything is ready to go,we were just waiting for you two to get back from your jollys to Africa"
"We were hardly on our jollys" Dec frowned.
"Anyway" Simon continued while ignoring Decs statement "I think we'll be good to go in about two weeks,we'll start recording the auditions then,we've had thousands of applications"
"Aww...and all because they want to meet me" Ant joked.
"And me" Dec cut in.
"Yeah, yeah" Simon laughed "you keep telling yourself that,as long as you do a good job,you can tell yourself whatever you like"
"When don't we do a good job?" Dec grinned.
"That time you attempted to fool me at Americas got talent" Simon shot back, quick as a flash.
"That was hilarious" Amanda said.
"Ha" Ant laughed "you're never going to forgive us for that are you?"
"No,never" Simon stated with a smile "I'll get you back one day, you'll see"
"Yeah, how long have you been saying that?" Dec mused "we're still waiting"
"You'll see" Simon repeated.
"I doubt we will see" Ant beamed "me and Dec are the kings of pranks, you might as well give up now"
"Ok,ok" Simon laughed "can we just concentrate on the new programme for now"
"Yeah, can we please?" Piers snapped "just ignore these children Simon"
"So looking forward to working with you" Ant winked at Piers.
"Yeah" Dec nodded "we're gonna have loads of fun"
"Don't even think about it" Piers snapped.
"Think about what?" Dec grinned innocently.
"You know what" Piers retorted "don't even think about pranking me or doing anything stupid like that"
"As if we would" Ant laughed.
"Ok guys" Simon shook his head despairingly at the three mens banter that was being played out in front of him "let's concentrate shall we?"
"Yeah,let's" Piers nodded impatiently.
"So is everyone ready?" Simon enquired "Amanda?"
"Oh yes,I'm ready" Amanda replied.
"Piers?" Simon continued.
"Yes,I'm ready" Piers replied "can we just get on with it?"
"That's what im trying to do" Simon glared straight at Piers, which made him lower his eyes sheepishly.
"Stephen?" Simon asked.
"I'm ready to rhumble" Stephen grinned.
Ant and Dec both shook their heads at him in mock despair.
"Ant?Dec?" Simon continued.
"I'm ready Simon" Ant smiled.
"Dec?" Simon smiled at the young man that he had become so fond of over the last few years.
Of course Dec had to go one better.
"I'm ready" Dec announced in his most professional presenters voice and beamed cheekily at everyone sat around the table.
"I AM READY FOR BRITAIN'S GOT TALENT!"

The Code of Life - Epic Fantasy/Scifi LitRPG Series
Strange new worlds with monsters and beasts, some to tame, some to slain. Some to make friends of as you realize you're a bigger monster than they could ever be... And you have to move and progress. Learn and survive. Only that can unlock the boxes of secrets and provide answers to the ultimate of riddles. Seemingly randomly selected, thirteen people of diverse backgrounds are given access codes to the MOLI. It offers a strange new experience that looks very seductive and engaging, with stunning graphics and alluring species, just utterly mindblowing and addictive. But, it seems nobody knows what MOLI actually is, a whole new level in VR gaming or an inexplicable transference to another universe with different worlds and their own laws and customs. The experience feels so real it’s difficult to be certain. But they have to find the answers fast because people soon start to die. *** This is not intended to be a typical litRPG series, although it uses a lot of its elements to help create the whole setting. Planning to publish a chapter a day, so be warned of the editing mistakes that are certain to sneak through. Hope to keep on fixing them as I go along.
