《Stranded》part 3

"I still can't believe this is happening" Dec sighed,as he stared out into the cold, dark sea.
"Me neither" Ant shook his head sadly "but it'll be a tale to tell the folks back home"
"Do you think we should have tied the boat up?" Dec asked,as he watched their only mode of transport bobbing around in the sea "moored it?anchored it or something?"
"Probably" Ant sighed "but I'm not going back in that freezing water now,we'll just have to risk it"
"Bit irresponsible isn't it?" Dec frowned.
"Well, you go ahead if you want to sort it out" Ant shrugged "I don't think it's going anywhere though, the waves are coming inwards not outwards"
"Tides do go out as well ya know?" Dec pointed out.
"I just don't care about that damn boat at this precise moment Decs" Ant stated "it'll be fine"
"I'll just trust you know what you're talking about then" Dec replied "and hope it's still there when it gets light"
Ant didn't answer,he really didn't care about it right now,he was too busy trying to ignore his rumbling stomach.
"So should we go and explore now?" Dec asked curiously, changing the subject "find out where we are?I don't see any lights coming from anywhere"
"Everyone will be asleep I suppose" Ant shrugged "it's the middle of the night after all"
"Yeah, but there would still be street lights wouldn't there?" Dec pointed out.
"Well,we're on a beach" Ant replied "once we go a bit further inland, there'll be more lighting"
"So should we go and explore?" Dec repeated.
"Not until daybreak at least" Ant pondered "don't want to get lost in the dark"
"Hate to break it to you Anthony" Dec sighed "but we already are lost"
"Doesn't matter" Ant smiled "we're gonna be rescued tomorrow"
"So you keep saying" Dec frowned "but what if we're not?"
"Don't be ridiculous Declan" Ant snapped "of course we will be,they're not going to leave us out here to die are they?"
Dec shuddered at that thought.
"Wonder what Ali and Anne-Marie are doing?" Dec mused.
"Worrying themselves sick I'd imagine" Ant frowned.
The boys hated the idea of what their other halves would be going through right now, especially Ali who also had a toddler to take care of while having no idea what had happened to her beloved husband.
"Wonder if we've made the news?" Dec asked curiously.
"Hope not" Ant replied "it'll be a circus if we have, that'll be the last thing Anne-Marie and Ali need"

"BRITAINS BEST LOVED PRESENTING DUO GO MISSING IN AUSTRALIA" Dec announced,he could just imagine the newspaper headlines back home, maybe even around the world.
"Yep,will definitely be a circus" Ant sighed "hopefully we'll be back at the hotel before anyone back home ever knew we were missing"
The boys carried on chatting into the night, until the sun finally started to rise up over the horizon.
"It's getting warmer" Dec smiled.
"Thank God for that" Ant nodded "never been so cold in my life"
"Me neither" Dec agreed "looks like it might be a scorcher again,I'd better stay in the shade until we're found"
"Yeah, you'd definitely better had" Ant laughed "can't be dealing with you having sunstroke on top of everything else"
"Yeah" Dec nodded and glanced behind for a moment "there's plenty of trees here at least anyway"
"There's another problem" Ant stated bluntly.
"What's that?" Dec asked worried.
"Andy" Ant replied.
"What about him?" Dec enquired.
"He's dead" Ant frowned.
"Er...yeah,obviously" Dec muttered "we established that fact long ago, what's your point?"
"My point is Declan" Ant continued "that Andy is dead and it's going to be a hot day,do you know what happens to dead bodies?especially in the heat"
"Oh God" Dec could feel his stomach churning at what this meant, the very thought of it was making him want to throw up right there on the beach.
"We might have to bury him" Ant announced.
"What?" Dec asked shocked "we can't,we have to deliver him back to his loved ones remember?"
"You want to just leave him to rot out here in the sun?" Ant snapped "he's probably already started decomposing"
"Oh God,I can't bear this" Dec pulled his knees up to his stomach and started sobbing into them.
"I know" Ant replied sadly and pulled Dec in for a hug "me neither, but it has to be done"
"Can't we just get back into the boat and start searching for land again?" Dec asked desperately.
"Dec,we found land" Ant pointed out "we're sitting on it now"
"More civilised land then?" Dec pleaded "there's obviously nothing here,we must be on an island or something"
"Declan" Ant replied "we haven't even gone anywhere yet,we haven't even explored this place, you never know,it could be some kind of holiday resort"
"Oh yeah?" Dec retorted "so where are the sun loungers?the sea front bars and restaurants?the lights and sounds from the hotel?the tourists?"
"Dunno" Ant shook his head sadly,he knew he was clutching at straws, but he would try anything to stop Dec descending into a downward spiral, like he had seen so many times before.

"There's nothing here Ant" Dec exclaimed "please can we get back in the boat and try and find our way back to some kind of civilisation?"
"I tell you what kidda" Ant smiled "how about we go and see what's here and if we haven't found anybody or anything...say within an hour...then we head back out on the boat...deal?"
"Ok,deal" Dec reluctantly agreed "I'm bloody starving though"
Ant immediately pulled one of the apples out of Andys bag.
"We can share this one now" Ant informed him "and save the other one for later"
"Breakfast of kings right?" Dec said sarcastically.
"Better than nothing" Ant shrugged,as he bit into the apple before passing it to Dec.
"Have a sip" Ant ordered as he pulled his water bottle out from his own bag "just a sip like"
Dec shook his head in disbelief.
How could two millionaires like themselves be having to share an apple and a half drank bottle of water?
All that money that was laying in their bank accounts that they had worked so hard for meant absolutely nothing right now!
"That flare was bloody useless then wasn't it?" Dec moaned,as they got to their feet to explore their surroundings.
"Guess no one was close enough to see it" Ant shrugged.
"Well, that's not very reassuring is it?" Dec moaned "no one on land or at sea was close enough to see it?"
"We've still got three more" Ant pointed out "not that we'll need them,we're going to be rescued today"
"Why are you so certain of that?" Dec questioned.
"I just know" Ant smiled "we can't have come that far"
"Can't we?" Dec frowned "we were sailing for ages with Andy yesterday, then we drifted God knows how far when we fell asleep,we could be anywhere"
"Can you just stop being so bloody negative for one moment?" Ant snapped "you think I want to be stuck out here do you?you don't think I'd rather be back at our luxury hotel with my girlfriend, lazing by the pool and drinking mocktails instead of listening to your never ending whinging?I'm doing my best Declan, just give me a fucking break will you?"
Dec stared at Ant angrily,he wanted to blow up at him and give him a piece of his mind, but under the circumstances he thought better of it and chose to sulk moodily instead.
He got to his feet and immediately made his way up the beach and into the trees.
"I'll carry this then shall I?" Ant mumbled to himself sarcastically as he picked up the bag containing their sparse supply of snacks and water.
He followed behind Dec without saying a word.He knew Dec storming off without a plan would more than likely get them even more lost.
"Not even a bloody pathway anywhere" Dec moaned, after they'd been walking over uneven ground for over half an hour "or a dirt trail"
Ant had already noticed this and was getting concerned about how deep into what now seemed to be a forest they were going.
"Decs wait" Ant stopped suddenly "I think we should go back"
"Talking to me now are you?" Dec asked childishly.
"Declan" Ant sighed "please stop it,you're the one who stropped off in a mood, but all this niggling at each other isn't doing either of us any good is it?"
"Guess not" Dec shrugged.
"Come on" Ant smiled "we're a team me and you, always have been, always will be,let's not let this break us"
Ant held his arms out and Dec immediately fell into them for a comforting bear hug.
"Let's go back" Ant smiled,as he pulled out of the embrace "get on the boat and see what else we can find, that's what you wanted right?"
"Yeah" Dec nodded "there's nothing here by the look of it is there?"
"No" Ant agreed "looks like we just washed up on some small, uninhabited island"
"You know the way back?" Dec asked nervously.
"Well" Ant announced proudly "I made sure I dragged this bag through the undergrowth so it left a bit of a trail for us to follow back"
"Clever" Dec beamed at his friends ingenuity "I'd never have thought of that"
"I know you wouldn't" Ant winked playfully.
So,a short while later, the boys were back in the boat, doing their best to ignore the dead body in the back.
"We'd better cover ourselves in suncream before we set off" Ant advised "hot sun and sea air could be a recipe for disaster, especially with your pale, delicate skin"
"Yeah, alright" Dec smiled "I know I'm a delicate little flower"
"Ready?" Ant asked as he sat in the drivers seat and turned the key in the ignition.
"Ready as I'll ever be" Dec replied nervously.
Ant continued to fiddle with the boats controls, but nothing was happening.
"Umm...what's going on Ant?" Dec frowned "why aren't we moving?"
"Don't know Decs" Ant replied.
"Can't seem to get the damn thing started!"
