《Soul Bonded [Claude De Alger Obelia x reader ]》10. Solace

Everything happened in blur. So quick and fast. It left you wondering if it was all a dream. And you'll wake to Nora's joyful smile, her carefree laughs. But that wasn't the case since you had woked up.
You had passed out by the overwhelming emotions. The pain and loss was too much for a child to handle. That's what you felt like. A lost child.
The funeral started and ended in a blink of an eye. When you woke up everything was done and over. Leaving you with feeling of regrets. Regardless of the awful situation-- her sudden death-- you didn't got the closure you needed. It just didn't sit well with you that you didn't got to say the last goodbye.
You kneeled before her tomb, silent tears pouring out. You felt numb at the same time in excruciating pain.
People from the villagers had came to pay the condolences but you knew better. They were like vultures came to dig on the pain of others. Waiting to have their fills, fill their stomach with your misfortune. Their leering faces, their sickening curiousity, everything made you sick.
How can this people find pleasure in your pain.
You could hear their murmurs as they discussed your loss and pain like another weather news.
"She's orphan too now just like her mother."
"Do you think it runs in the family being isolated."
"Personally I think they are cursed. What are the chances of a daughter having fate same as her mother."
Those words bounced off you. You didn't care about their hateful comments. Because you knew the truth. You lived in it. Those happy moments you shared with Nora weren't fake, weren't a curse but a blessing. So it didn't bother other than being a annoyance.
But it seem like it bothered someone else.
"Please leave. Leave the mourning family to themselves. They don't need to know what your opinions are pertinent to the matter. " Curt and polite request. Yet it cut through the crowd making everyone cower.
You realise it was the man who had came with the dreadful news. He had arranged everything. From casket to digging up a pit for Nora to rest in.
The reason was clear. The man felt guilt and remorse. He was lord of House of Judith. A noble. Apparently it was an assassin attempt on him but Nora had came in between it and sacrificed her life saving him. She became her Savior. He might be feeling a moral obligation to at least make everything go smoothly.
You were grateful. You had no source for arranging the funeral. No people to help except Pierce and Agatha. But still there was a limit to how much they could help.

Agatha, Pierce, Iseka and the gentleman. All them had a solemn yet pained look as they gazed at you kneeling infront of her resting place.
"Dear we should go inside." Agatha said.
"I want to stay here. Little more.." your voice was barely above whisper.
Troubled glances were shared. Each one looking hesitant.
"I think we should leave her alone for the time being. We have something to discuss." Lord Lionel said calmly his gaze fixated on you.
"I told you it's not happening." Iseka snarled. Her pain turning into anger and bitterness.
Seem like they forgot you were still there within hearing range. Though you were too emotionally drained to do cognitive function. Their words reached you without any real meanings.
"Iseka please it's for the future of the child. You can't just keep it away from her." Pierce reasoned with her.
"I'm not. I'm trying to save her future by not letting this man have his hands on her." Iseka didn't budge remaining firm on her decision.
"And doom her to the life of isolation and loneliness..." Agatha's voice cut through the bitter banter.
Iseka flinched. "That's not..."
"Yes, you do know. That's why we need to talk it out calmly."
"I'll stay with here." Agatha offered as she came beside you and sat down thankfully giving you space. You didn't know if you could handle anymore pity.
They walked away disappearing behind the door into the empty house.
Lord Lionel threw you a fleeting glance. An unreadable emotion flashing in his eyes.
The door shut behind them giving them privacy.
You kneeled down, reminiscing memories. These let out another wave of tears to tumble down your cheeks. But you let it.
You knew your pain and agony was leaving your body in form of tears. Each tear will make you lighter.
People die. People mourn. People move on. People once again find happiness. That's how it is. That's how it should be. Maybe they won't be the same. Maybe one will lose a part of oneself forever only to find a piece one never knew he had.
So you mourned. Because you knew this pain won't last. Because you were bigger than it. Stronger than it. And now it's you responsibility to carry the legacy and memories of Nora and move on. Keeping her close to your heart forever. Not letting her fade away as mere memories.
Your head was bowed eyes shut tight as you sent a small prayer for Nora to have peace. A warm sensation on your cheek had your eyes shot open. To your surprise a glowing butterfly fluttered in your vintage setting down on Nora's grave. You blinked unlike the indigo butterfly you knew it was pink. Pulsing slowly as it sat unmoving.

You're not alone.
Huh?
You looked at Agatha to see her praying with hands laced together and eyes shut. She must be praying for peace of the soul.
You looked at the butterfly. It pulsed until it scattered into pink glittering dust dissolving in the air.
You gasped in surprise and awe. The sight was beautiful. And you felt better. Like you had got the closure which was stolen away from you. It made you heart lighter and the pain more bearable.
Of course I'm not alone. You'll always be by my side, residing within my heart.
You smiled a single tear trickled down your cheek and landing on the grave with a splash.
What seem like eternity the door opened and everyone walked out. Iseka's face was unreadable as she looked at you. Agatha and Pierce looked remorseful While Lord Lionel gave you a smile. You stood stumbling. All the crying had drained you. Your throat was dry, eyes bloodshot and nose running. But you stood up.
Something was wrong. You had bad feeling about it.
"(Y/n) meet your new guardian Lord Lionel. From today onwards he will take care of you." Iseka said pointing to the man beside her. The man ignored her rude gesture and smiled at you.
"Hello, child. Hope we get along."
Woah. Hold up what the hell are you babbling about?
"I have packed your things and some of Nora's for you. You'll get going in few hours once Lord Lionel prepares to depart."
Iseka's monotone voice gritted on your ears as you tired to make sense of the situation.
They're sending me away? Away from the place and life I practically knew all this time.
"What? Nana I don't understand. Where am I going?"
And so suddenly. Isn't it too soon? I just lost my Mother and they want to kick me out.
Iseka let out a annoyed sigh. "This person is going to be your guardian and you're going with him to live in the capital. He'll take care of you from now on."
You gasped in disbelief. "But I don't want to go. Momma's lived here so I wanna live here too. And I don't want to leave Nana."
Iseka glared at you with ice cold eyes. "Don't you get it. No one wants you here. Your life here is over along with your Mother's. Your just an orphan. No one will expect you here."
"Do you want stay here and endure the scorn of the villagers and be entrapped in your room. With no one on your side..."
Wasn't it too harsh for a child?! A child who's going through too much suddenly being told she no longer is needed! This insensitive woman!!
"But I have you Nana." You persisted.
"I'm not your mother."
Her cold reply made you flinch. And hurt.
You nervously looked at Pierce and Agatha. But they had averted their gaze with anguish expression. They weren't going to help you. Not when they convinced Fat lady to sent you away.
"Give it up, brat. Everyone here is stranger for you now. Go with that kind gentlemen."
"He's a stranger too!"
"No, he's not."
"Yes he is! I don't know him!"
"He's your father."
Every protest died down in your throat. You numbly stood there watching them.
*****
A black void that stretched into nothing. Nothing could be seen other than darkness. The void had no walls nor ground yet it existed into a plane unknown. Within this darkness two pulsing light could be seen. One was pink and the other Indigo.
They had no shape. It just flickered with no purpose. And yet it spoke, the sound echoing into the void.
"I failed. I failed to protect her."
"Don't worry. She doesn't need protection. Afterall she has cheated fate twice now."
"What do you mean? Don't you dare bring my child into your twisted schemes!"
"I didn't. She willingly walked into path of flame to scorch her fate."
"What? What does that mean?!"
"Like I said. You need not to worry. If anyone could survive this it'll be her."
"Promise me.... promise me you'll protect her.. You won't leave her like you did with me... promise me."
"I can't promise you that. Playing with fate is not a wise decision nor is intercepting it to change. But I promise, if the need arise I shall provide a hand. That's all I can do. I can't interfere with what she has started against the fate. It's fight between her and destiny."
"....... Please don't hurt her... She's all I have..." The distorted voice faded away
The pulsing pink light dimmed until a bright white light flashed. Once the flash died down only one pulsing light flickered into the void.
The indigo light slowly turned misty. Shaping into outline of a woman. Her lips were curled up into a smirk. Her whispery voice carried on in the void.
"Foolish human. No life is without pain. It's what mould us. You cannot spare anyone no pain."
Her dull eyes looked beyond as her still figure started to fade away from the void.

The Mischievous Mrs. Maxfield
***The wrong girl is sometimes The Right One.*** Charlotte Samuels thought she'd be stuck waiting tables at Marlow's until all her debts are paid off-in about ten thousand years or so. She definitely didn't expect a marriage proposal from the arrogant Brandon Maxfield who was blackmailed by his father to make her his wife if he didn't want his least favorite cousin to run Maxfield Industries. Charlotte's instinct was to say HELL NO! but she's stumped by a few obstacles: 1.) His old man Martin Maxfield is dear to her heart and has been recently deteriorating in health. 2.) She gets a million dollars if she stays married to Brandon for a year. 3.) She would rather like the opportunity to teach the attractive but awfully rude man a few lessons he didn't think he needed from a 'teenage gold-digger' which was his term of endearment for her on their first date-er, business meeting. So what's a girl got to do, right? Sure, she's young and a little rough around the edges but there's something her would-be husband didn't know about her yet-she's nothing like he ever expected. Thrust into the glitzy world a standard-issue Mrs. Maxfield would fit perfectly and rule with impeccable social grace, Charlotte will either have to force herself into the mold or break free of it, risking what little she has left for everything that she can gain.*** Copyright © 2014 by Nina Tippett.
