last night he was a god of death

a king

a murderer with cuts on his fingers and wrists

but today he is just a man

eating breakfast with a girl he likes

if he could separate the two worlds

he would build a wall of obsidian in between

just to keep these normal days

cool mornings

and the warm blood-drenched nights

what will he be without them?

this is something new

something terrifying

it will be harder to hide if it goes further

but he doesn't want it to stop

it's a cold shiver down his spine as he watches how the sun shines in the curve of her neck

it's the thumping of his aching heart

it's the smile in her face tugging the scar on her cheekbone

he leans forward and presses his lips to hers

feather light

and he thinks to himself

this will be my undoing

but for now

he doesn't mind

for this moment

he is free
