to anyone else

the scene might have been tender

a man and a girl

set against a sunrise

and if you had been there you might have seen

she steps forward

and kisses him once

gently

and you would have had to been very close

to see the knife

that she pushed into his chest

and that he let her

wrapping his own hands around the blade

and you would have had to be only inches away

to hear him whisper

thank you

and after he slumped to the ground

the girl stood

with wild eyes

and as he reached for her

she stepped into the air

and they both fell

and silence fell after them
