If you haven't already heard, Casey, a 23 year old black man, was shot three times in the back through a door. Casey had just returned home from a dentist appointment, had Subway sandwich, face mask, and keys in his hands as he entered his home.

The US Marshal for the Southern District of Ohio has confirmed that Casey was not the fugitive the police were looking for, and yet the police believe his shooting was justified, claiming he was "waving a gun" and that "the deputy confronted him and it went badly".

This wasn't a newbie to the force, either. The man who murdered Casey was a 17 year veteran to the force.

And again, this police department , in previous years, had been investigated by a federal jury for THREE other civil rights violations, which the department had also claimed that the victim was "waving a gun", where he killed a 16 year old named Julius Tate and 13 year old Tyre king.

Casey had a clean record, and a conceal and carry permit.

If if he didn't have a clean record, he didn't deserve to die. No one does. Especially when the reasoning is simply because of the color of one's skin.

I was born into a life of privilege. I am a white, cis, able-bodied female. I have never and will never be discriminated against because of my race or sexuality, and because of that I am privileged.

I cannot even begin to comprehend your pain, however, I can listen and fight alongside you. I have purchased "How to be Anti-Racist" to further along my knowledge of systemic racism in America. This is my promise to spotlight your voices and continually fight for change until my last breath.

Silence is compliance. Furthermore, simply not being racist isn't enough. We have to be actively anti-racist in this fight for change.

Of course, if your mental health is negatively affected by what's going on, do not push yourself. But, talk about world events. Get "political" (although basic human rights shouldn't be politicized). If you're afraid of saying the wrong thing, find someone and ask how to speak out without overstepping boundaries.
