《Linger》Chapter 10

The next morning I woke up in pain.
I leaned forward but was abruptly stopped by a chain on my right wrist. After the brief interaction yesterday Dane was distance and chained me to his bed before going to sleep last night. I slept alone.
"I'm sorry I have to keep you chained like that, but I didn't want to risk you running away from me." a husky voice startled me. I nearly peed.
In the corner of the room was a shadow, hard to distinguish Dane's features but the pair of his bright blue eyes seemed to illuminate the room. He walks to the corner of the bed and sits down.
"How long have you been there?"
"Since 5:30 this morning. I couldn't help but look at you while you sleep. So peaceful and beautiful I wanted to memorize your features. To count all your scars and creases. Just like the birthmark on your hip, that effortlessly hugs your hip to the back of your ass and the scab on your knee that probably seemed twelve years old. So so perfect, so perfect." He muttered in the end.
His eyes lingered on my body for a good ten seconds.
I slightly move my leg but is stopped by his cold hands, "Don't move"
He hovers over me and unlocks the chain around my wrist.
"Get dressed and meet me in the kitchen" he lips slightly touch mine, "don't keep me waiting." he runs his finger down my cheek.
As soon as he closed the door. I jolt up and look around the empty room. I run towards the window but it is caged in. Maybe I could scream for help, my weak fingers try to open it but the window is bolted shut; no way out. A small key hole was in the bottom corner of the window. Big oak trees surrounded this house, I could barely catch a glimpse of a neighbors house that had to be a couple of streets away. I had no idea where I was was. I had to be in the country side far away from my town, but where? Furiously I run to his dresser. Perhaps there are keys inside but to my disappointment I only find a grey shirt, blue jeans and a pair of socks and boxers evenly folded right beside each other. Plain and neat.
There was nothing in here but this dresser and bed that occupied the room. Even the closet was empty.
"What's taking so long?" Dane shouted.
I quickly dress and make my way to the kitchen
Dane stood with his arms crossed and eyes focused on me. "If you looking for something in my room, you won't find it." He walked to counter and brings a plate of scrambled eggs and toast to the table.

"I'm going to gone for a couple of hours"
"Where your going?"
He sighs, "I have to go to work and deal with some personal business. If I could I would stay home with you all day." He says stepping closer. He brings me in an embrace and takes a whiff of my hair. He moans. "oh god"
I could feel my hands getting sweaty I cold barely breathe. He slightly yanks my hair. "I lose focus when I'm with you." he whispers. He grips my throat and kisses me, his tongue slides over my bottom lip, the warm sensation of his saliva drips to the outer corner of my mouth.
"Taste it" he quietly demanded.
I reluctantly lick my lips clean and purposely suck my bottom lip as his hungry filled eyes seem to devour my lips with one look. He grunts and rolls his eyes back. I knew then, I had power.
Without a pause he steps back and takes a sip of water from the refrigerator like nothing happened.
"And until then, you are going to stay put." He takes his coat from behind him. "Just so you know, the windows are bulletproof, this whole house is sound proof the best quality out there, the windows and doors are not just locked inside but as well as outside. There is no phone or internet access here and no knives, bats, scissors or any weapons of any kind for you to reach to besides the basement but that is locked so you can try all you want but it won't open. There is nothing in this house except for the TV and books that I have lying around somewhere. You can scream all you want but no one will hear you or find you."
He tucks a strand of hair behind my ear, "If you try anything funny, in any way." He leans foreword "I will hurt you." He pats my head. "In a good way...maybe"
I shudder.
He checks his phone "Crap I'm late, there food in the fridge." He says as he closes the door behind him. I then hear another door close along with several locks.
Great. There was no possible way out of here.
I checked every room in the house and all were empty. But one door in the hallway was locked that I couldn't access. Either there were weapons inside or something Dane was hiding and I wanted to find out. The door knob was stiff and old, surprised it didn't have many locks on it like the other doors.
If I hit the door knob a couple of time trying to open but it doesn't budge.
I sit in the uneven couch and drop my head in between my legs. Was this going to be my life? Kidnapped by a manic, manipulated with lustful desires that I couldn't deny. I had to find a way to manipulate him if not maybe detach myself from this whole situation. Besides his bipolar outbreaks and lustful moments I felt an attachment I could not explain and it's been only a couple of days. I was losing my mind.

With failure in my mind, I flip through the channels and immediately recognize the weary women in tears in the TV screen.
"She is a smart girl and just a freshman in community college. She has a younger brother who misses her very much. Please I just want my baby girl back. Darling if you're seeing this, know that we miss you and we won't stop searching for you. "
A knot grew in my throat. God how I missed my mom and dad. They looked so tired and worn out.
"If you have information on the disappearance of Susan Palos please contact police at..."
I turn off the tv and lay back. I close my eyes and dream; dream of home.
It has been five hours since Dane left and I still could not open the damn locked door. I've spent most of the time eating cookies and grapes while watching bad soap opera shows and paternity tests drama in The Maury Show.
My stomach rumbled as I look through the drawer for a fork. I tend to eat a lot when I'm bored or lonely. "Wait, I forgot there were forks!" The sharpest ting in this house was the fork. I run over and wiggle the fork in between the door.
"Stupid door!" I kick the door. "open!" To my luck the door knob loosens enough that the door opens.
"Here goes nothing." The room was cold and dark. Filled with rows and rows of drawers and file cabinets against the left wall all aligned by size and color. Beside the room being old and discolored it was neat and organized and smelled like strong aroma of flowers. The other side was filled with pictures. Of ME. Even photos of me when I was a baby were pinned to a bulletin board. Pictures of when I was walking to school, of me sleeping, eating and taking a shower. That seemed to be taken outside the window of my house through the curtains. Some where blurry others were hard to even distinguish the photos at all. All the photos were old. He had to be stalking me more than two months. Many of these photos were from last year.
What. The. Fuck. There in the corner stood a cabinet labeled 'Susan'.
I hesitate. What can possibly be inside labeled 'Susan'. Voodoo dolls?
Inside was a handful of underwear I don't even remember losing. Along with napkins, used cups, letters with my address on it and a glove. The same green glove I had lost the beginning of this year at the bus stop. All of these were things I had used or owned.
Everything swirled around me, it was beginning hard to breathe, how did he get these? I try to catch my breath and quietly hum to myself. Hmm Hmmm Humm
I close it shut. No fucking way.
I hear a car pull up.
Quickly I shut the door, there was no way to hide it, he'll obviously know I broke the door open.
Quickly I sit on the couch and close my eyes.
"Susaaaannnnn" His voice was deep and melodic.
I pretended to be asleep, "Wake up little baby" his breath smelled like cigarettes.
"I'm tired"
"Wake up" he whispers
His cold eyes greeted me as I open mine. "Did you miss me?"
"No"
He laughs uncontrollably and sits beside me but stops.
"No you didn't?" He gets up and run to the room. "Well, I missed you very much. I see you opened the door! I was going to wait a while till I showed you this room."
"You're a liar!" I bark.
"Aren't we all?" he jokes as he picks up the door knob. "You're not flattered? This room is basically dedicated to you. "
"No you're a freak you've been stalking me for who knows how long now and been keeping things I used"
He stops smiling and gets up. He grabs a hold of my throat and forcefully pushes me against the wall. "Don't you understand! I've been waiting for you for a very long time. You can call me a freak, a weirdo, a fucking killer for all I care. But you are mine, you belong to me. You are the one I dreamed about and when I saw you I knew it had to be you. And I'm the one for you"
"No"
With force he kissed me, his tongue asked for entrance but I pushed him away. "You can't deny me"
"Yes" I repeated between kisses "Yes I can."
"Can you?"
He lifts me over his shoulder and drops me on his bed. From his pocket he took out a switchblade. He carefully placed the tip of the blade against my bottom lip and slowly traveled down my chest and cut a hole in my shirt; in between my breasts. Carefully sliding the blade against my skin. "So fragile" he whispers. From there he cuts the shirt further until my nipples were showing. I was beginning to tremble.
"Shh don't worry, I won't hurt you." He grins.
"You said you won't do that to me again remember?" I remind, and his smiles fades. "You're right." He slowly lowered the knife down to the button of my pants and unbuttons it. "I did promise I would never do it again, didn't I"
