《WALKER》SEVENTEEN

I woke up and found Faith sitting upright in bed playing with her doll. A smile rested on my face as I watched her.
"Good morning." I said softly and she smiled at me.
"Good morning Xelia." Faith said before jumping out of bed.
"Can I go take a shower now?" She asked and I nodded before taking a towel out of the closet for her.
"There you go." I said and she frowned at me.
"You have to turn the shower on for me, I'm too short." She said and I chuckled at my own stupidity before we went into the bathroom. I opened the shower before closing the bathroom door behind me.
I noticed that it was ten o'clock as I passed the watch in the hallway. I went downstairs and found Hunter making fire.
"Good morning." I said and he looked over his shoulder at me.
"Morning." He said before going back to his work. I went into the kitchen before pouring myself a cup of coffee.
I finished my drink before going upstairs. I put some clothes out for Faith when she returned from the bathroom. I grabbed a towel before going into the bathroom and taking a quick shower.
When I returned to our room Faith was gone so I frowned before quickly getting dressed and going downstairs. I heard chatter coming from the living so I went inside.
"Xelia!" Faith yelled when she saw me before hugging me. Hunter silently looked at me before smiling.
"Have a seat." He said softly so I frowned lightly. "Let's talk." He added so I sat down. "How old are you?" He asked blankly.
"Twenty." I said and he nodded slowly.
"What's your favorite color?" He asked and I frowned.

"I don't have a favorite color." I said slowly.
"Genuine question, why do you think you're still alive?" He asked and I frowned at him.
"What?" I asked and he sighed.
"Why do you think you're still alive?" He repeated so I sighed.
"I don't know I just have been fighting for something. For some reason." I said and Hunter nodded slowly.
"About eight years ago I joined the army, I got shot and I wanted to give up. But for some reason I couldn't. Instead of going to war I started training the rookies." He said before smiling.
"It's called purpose." He said and I smiled softly. "Anyway when the outbreak happened I went up the ranks pretty quick." He said before scoffing. "I met a feisty doctor along the way." He said referring to Rosaleigh and I smiled. "Kieran and doc is the only family I know." He added softly.
"Let me know if you want me to train you too, it would be an honor." He said and I smiled at him.
"Sure." I said softly. "I'd like that." I added and he smiled at me. "But I have to warn you though I'm not much of an athlete." I said and he chuckled.
"Doesn't matter, you just need to know how to defend yourself." He said and I nodded. I made some toast for Faith before I started to prepare lunch.
"I'm heading out!" Hunter yelled before the house dawned in silence. Faith hummed a song while playing on the carpet, she had one direction playing and I couldn't help but to sing along.
I heard a knock on the door so I frowned. Is it Hunter? Why would he knock? I looked out of the window but Noah's truck wasn't in the driveway so my heart started pounding faster in my chest.

I ran to Faith before turning the music off. "Go upstairs and lock the bedroom door." I told her and she nodded before running upstairs.
I looked out the back window but there was no sign of Hunter. There came another knock on the door so I went into the kitchen before grabbing a knife and carefully walking to the door. I looked through the keyhole and jumped back as someone was standing in front the door.
I calmed my breathing before biting into my bottom lip.
"Who's there?" I asked.
"Please open the door." The man said and I frowned.
"I asked who's there." I said and there was silence.
"I just want my daughter, okay?" He said and I frowned. He has to be crazy.
"Your daughter?" I asked in confusion.
"Faith, she's my grand daughter." He said and my eyes widened.
"Faith?" I asked in shock.
"Yes, I don't want any trouble." He said blankly and my eyes widened in panic. I know he's not lying, how else would he know her name.
"Please I just came to get my grand daughter. I don't want any trouble." The man repeated and I placed my hand on the doorknob.
What do I do? This shouldn't be my call to make in the first place.

Windwalker
Having subdued its surrounding enemies, the former Sulic Empire is faced with unrest brewing from within. Society is torn in two. The reigning mentalists constantly persecute the subjugated elementals under the pretence of curbing the explosive potential of their destructive powers. Meanwhile, schemes and political interests clash as different groups within the Governance military elite vie for control. And in the shadows, Sulic’s old enemies have been lying in wait a long time, looking for the first sign of weakness to make their move. Against this backdrop, two ordinary individuals fight to maintain stability from opposing sides: a low ranking telepathic recruit with nothing to his name but good intentions, and an unregistered elemental contractor with a murky past. Book One: Rising Wind Kal has trained to be a soldier his entire life. His days are simple, and his duties clear: enforce the rules, upkeep the peace, and most important — police the elementals. If they step out of line, the Governance system corrects it. But when Kal encounters a young boy whom he suspects might be an illegal earthborn, he can’t bring himself to report him. Despite his training and the advice of friends, he decides to help him onto what he believes is the right path. The Paths of Magick
Credits: Story by Xcaliburnt. Cover Art by @Bervolart. Magick, the power to bend the laws of reality. All because of a mystical substance known as mana. Mages follow the Paths to achieve power, for there is no more addictive chase. Each Path winds and twists, forcing mages through the flames of adversity and challenge. Though the operative word is "path", the reality is far less straightforward. Instead of a road, Paths are like the branches of world trees, erupting into the heavens, intertwining, and ending in sharp snaps. Only the strongest reach the sky. There are several Paths, and many Ways to walk them—variations of the same Path, and like the stars, they are endless. Magick is the sacred flame that scours the fat, rendering the truest self. Superfluous flesh melting away to show the skeleton of one's being. A chance for ascension—apotheosis. Though not every mage works to godhood, if they survive long enough, It is inescapable. Witness the lives of those that tread the knife's edge of self-destruction. Each one intertwined in their search for answers, revenge, and, most of all: power. These individuals have all lost something precious—irreplaceable—and In search of filling the void left behind, they have taken up the mantle of a mage. Per aspera ad astra. Ad mortem vel divinitatis. (Through adversity to the stars. To death or divinity.) There is no consistent release schedule except my consistent inconsistency. Besides, there’s like a thousand pages worth of content, how can—you already read it? Goddamn. Oh, and there is a very long hiatus between volumes as I intend to edit and rewrite a lot. What to Expect: This story is progression fantasy, so expect a healthy dose of training. It's also heavy on slice of life, and it isn't entirely overarching-plot-driven. Expect characters to live their lives, and not always be on some quest to save the world. There's a lot of magic theory and discussion about it in the story. So, if you don't like impromptu lessons on sorcerous theory by traveling monster slayers, this might not be for you. But if you do like it, rejoice! For there is a lot of it. This is also heavy on prose, purple as a bruised eye. I use outdated, uneccesarily collegiate-level terms and play around with the writing style just for the heck of it. I find it fun to wax and wane poetic, and that might grate on you—I don’t plan to change this aspect of the Paths much if at all. Onto the viewer discretion is advised parts: This is grim-dark/ grim-heart. Take the tags seriously. There will be combat scenes that are brutal and horrifying. Fights to the death tend to be. This is a tale about medieval mercenaries (quite literal killers for hire), man-eating monsters, and eldritch gods beyond the material plane. Beside that, there will be traumatic events that are best left unread. I do not detail certain acts I find heinous enough, instead leaving some parts unwritten but still alludded to if not outright stated; there is simply no graphic narration thereof. This is not for the faint of heart.
