"You invited him? With us? Betsy this is a family thing.."

Betsy glanced over to her brother, her face covered in regret and guiltiness though Luca didn't even bother to look back at her. He kept his eyes fixated ahead as they made their way to school.

He didn't sound angry or annoyed like she had expected, no his voice was laced with confusion and his features were coloured blank.

"I know and I'm sorry. He was having some problems in his friend group, something about one of them being gay and another homophobic. I'm not sure but he sounded distressed and I wanted to help," Betsy rambled, her words quickening with each step she took—somehow trying to ease herself to what Luca would say next.

He could yell, he could protest and tell her to uninvite him. But he didn't.

He simply said, "Okay."

Betsy furrowed her eyebrows, confusion flowing throughout her and she checked her ears to make sure she was hearing correct

Okay? Where was the lecture he was supposed to give her on why Ashton is a bad person?

"What? Did you just hear me?" Betsy replied, bringing herself to an abrupt halt.

She tugged at Luca's arm and spun him around so his full attention was fixed on her only.

"I don't really want to waste my energy on caring if he comes or not. Nothings going to change the fact that I hate him," Luca told her with a deep breath.

Betsy squinted her hazel eyes at her brother, her mind crawling with questions as she tried to make sense of his words.

"So you hate him but you can't be bothered to care that I hang around him..?"

Luca nodded, his eyes emotionless and empty as he forced a small smile of approval towards Betsy.

Her frown only grew deeper. No, something wasn't right and it was beginning to worry her because Luca didn't just brush things off like this.

"Luca is everything okay?" she asked, reaching out to place a comforting hand on his shoulder.

He just kept smiling and nodding.
