Luca didn't know if his sister would ever talk to him again because the minute they crossed paths at school or in the house, she would completely avoid him.
She didn't even walk with him to and from school anymore—leaving exactly ten minutes before he did and staying behind at school.
She didn't seem sad nor okay even, she was just kind of empty.
"Betsy?" he called out as he carefully watched her head to the front door.
Hesitantly, she turned around and faced Luca, a frown plastered on her face.
"Yes?" she asked, her tone sounding irritated.
Luca immediately regretted his attempt to catch her before she left for school and let his gaze fall down to the ground with a heavy sigh.
"Nevermind," he mumbled, running a hand through his mess of hair.
"Is there something you want to say?"
Luca shook his head and kept his gaze remained below.
"No... Just have a nice day at school..." he mumbled, spinning on his heel and making his way to head off.
"I don't hate you Luca," Betsy said suddenly, bringing Luca to a halt.
He glanced over his shoulder at his sister who stood right at the doorway with a strand of red hair twirled around in her finger.
"I just can't talk you at the moment," she finished, sending her brother a forced smile and finally turning to open the door.
Without a word, Luca watched Betsy walk out of the house and shut the door behind her.
His phone buzzed from where he had place it on the table earlier, breaking Luca away from his gaze.
He went over and picked it up, opening to see a new text message.
Ashton: I'm gonna pick u up, b there in 10
Luca felt a smile wash over his face and he quickly texted back an 'okay'.
It seemed as if everything was perfect with Ashton,
but imperfect with Betsy.
