《Artemis》Chapter 16

The next day comes to quickly for the prince's liking. He awakes to the sun warming his cheek as turns and is surprised when his hand brushes through fur. He smiles gently seeing Vatalanie laying in bed curled up. Her soft purrs can be heard from his touch. He gets up stretching awakening the she wolf. She gets up stretching before walking over to his door. He opens it a creak enough to let her out before closing the door heading to his cabinet to get out a fresh pair of trousers and top throwing them on. He gets his jacket on and throws on his boots before opening the door again. Yet again astonished to see Vatalanie standing guard at his door. He walks by and notices the wolf following.
Good morning my prince
Caspian stops hearing her voice filter into his head. He looks around the corridor for her before closing his eyes and concentrating.
Good morning my love, I seemed to have gained a companion
He begins walking again while waiting patiently for her reply.
Vatalanie is my most trusted wolf. I wish for you to be safe...
He smiled wide as he warms to her notion that she only wanted to protect him.
Although I appreciate it, I don't feel it is necessary love. Where are you this morning?
Navene and I have some business to attend so we will be out today.
Caspian stops in his tracks hearing that. His concern arising with the knowledge she is leaving. He just now notices that he is standing near his chair in the dining hall. His parent's giving him a concerned look while Cassandra nibbles away at the fresh fruit. He clears his throat and takes a seat while he continues his conversation with Artemis.
Caspian, I can sense your worry from here... We will be okay.
May I ask when to expect your return?
Caspian begins making his plate not even paying attention to what he is throwing on it. The queen notices the furrow in his eyebrows and looks to her husband who is already glancing at his son. Caspian begins rubbing his temples waiting for her reply not even noticing the new arrival to the hall.
Lena is all dolled up as she waltz in the hall making everyone look to her other than the one person she was hoping to impress. The queen doesn't mean to but her face falls at how much of the young princess' bosom is on display. How can she not realize how inappropriate she looks is quite astounding to the queen. The king this time wears the same expression as his wife. She walks over with an unnatural sway to her hips not even looking at the king or queen. Cassandra doesn't bother commenting as much as she wants to. She turns back to her food stabbing her strawberries. Lena sits down and eyes narrow as Caspian still is staring at an empty spot on the table.

It will all depend my love... Do not fear, I will return to you before nightfall.
Caspian sighs before taking a bite of his bread.
Just please be cautious love.
A clearing of a throat makes him blink a few times before he notices that Lena is now at the table. He glances around and can see his parent's questionable gazes. A weight on his legs makes him look down to see Vatalanie has placed her head upon his lap. He pets her and smiles seeing the she wolf that once wanted to bite him now pleading for his attention.
"AAGGHHHHHH"
I high pitch scream makes Caspian look up to see Lena practically falling out of her seat. Her adviser racing over to help assist her. Her wide eyes glued upon the she wolf. Vatalanie narrows her gaze upon the painted princess.
"Caspian, there is a WOLF in here! Someone kill it!!" The guards don't even move a muscle at her declaration causing her to be confused. Caspian sighs exasperated before Vatalanie growls lowly. Caspian holds up a hand like he has seen Navene do before and Vatalanie silences. He internally grins realizing she trust him. "CASPIAN, Do something!"
"Princess Lena, she is a friend and no harm will come to her. She is going to remain with me and if this is an issue then-"
"You can not be serious?!" Lena screeches incredulously. The adviser raising an eyebrow at the prince. The king stands up making everyone turn to him.
"Princess, we have a handful of wolves who are within the castle. They are all protected by us." Lena bites her tongue form stating her own thoughts in regards to all of this. She relents and drops her head nodding in submission. "Now if you will sit down, we have much to accomplish today. Let us eat before we begin."
Lena grins thinking of her day with Caspian but a low growl makes her high spirits damper slightly realizing that over size dog will be with them all day.
While the royal family is enjoying their breakfast. Artemis and Navene along with most of their pack are walking throughout the ever green just beyond the castle walls. Artemis had a strong urge last night and realized that someone or something was calling for help. She felt ready to get back to what she knows. The wolves seem to be pleased to be back outside the walls of the castle. Vatalanie stayed behind to help ease Artemis' worries knowing what Caspian has come to mean to her.

"Artemis, do you-"
Artemis stops him by holding up her hand as the feeling comes again. She close my eyes and expand my mind. The hairs on her neck tickling as she begins walking to where she is meant to be. Navene close behind along with the wolves. They get to a clearing where they see a vast lake.
"Is there some creature here?"
Navene questions looking around at the serene environment not noticing anyone injured. He looks to Artemis who is smiling looking up. Just as he looks up a wind shift causes him to block his face. a soft thud next to them has him look to the cause of the sound. He blinks a couple times as the black scales come into view as the tale gently sways back and forth across the ground. Artemis steps away as the wolves stay gathered around Navene.
Kaleo, it is good to see you again.
The dragon bows it head to the young savior as Artemis steps up placing her palm to his snout. They both close their eyes as the warmth seeps back and forth between the pair.
Lady Artemis, I told you we would meet again.
Artemis opens her eyes as she steps to the large winged creature checking the neck that had previously been injured. Her hand grazing the black scales that feel like smooth stones under her touch. Kaleo bares his fully healed neck to her as she continues her inspection.
Navene standing nearby proud at the relation that has been created but also terrified. He knows the larger the animal or wound, the more energy Artemis exerts to help heal. If something was to happen again to Kaleo, Artemis will giver her everything to make sure others are okay even if it means putting her in harms way.
Did you require my assistance Kaleo?
I wanted to check on you savior. You seemed wary when I left you last time.
Artemis smiles gently before wrapping her arms on the neck of the dragon. The grand creature bringing his tail up to coil around her reciprocating her affection.
I do wonder if I may have your guidance
Artemis looks concerned to Kaleo. Kaleo lays down completely flat on the ground and Artemis realizes the dragon wishes for her to get on his back. She looks back to Navene before speaking to him.
Navene, will you be okay if I leave with him for a few?
Navene's eyes snap up wide now concerned. The wolves can feel the tension while glancing back and forth between the pair. Artemis gives a warm reassuring smile making Navene slack slightly.
Artemis, I have never question your judgement but are-
Then don't start now... Stay with the pack and return to the castle if you wish it. I will return as soon as possible.
Navene slouches as he nods his head. Artemis then relays the message to the wolves who also looked concerned never leaving her without some protection before. She tells them she will be safe and to keep Navene protected. They bow their heads in respect while she walks over hugging Navene. He grips her firmly while looking around her at the large black dragon whose eyes are trained on the interaction between them.
Do not fear Navene, I will be back by your side soon.
She turns back to the dragon before walking up not sure where to grab. Not sure if it is disrespectful to grab his horns. The tilt of his head gives her the answer as she grabs it and he moves slowly pulling her up to straddle his neck. She gets as situated as she cans while the dragon looks to Navene giving a nod before stretching out its very wide black wings. Kaleo pressing off the ground now with the savior on his back taking her to new heights.
Navene watches as the gigantic creature lifts off the ground with his best friend in tow... His last thought being..
Should I tell Caspian?

Love Of Baybur [Participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]
The Sultanate won a huge battle against their enemies of different religion, and now left them with only a piece of land surrounded by Sultanate's forces. Baybur, a yerliyya from a backwater place, is hailed as a hero after the war for his past contributions in a strange manner and is, thus, invited to a banquet prepared by the Sultan and attended by many Great Nobles. To Baybur, who had dreams of stepping on a higher stage in Sultanate's politics, and in his Orta's ranks, this is a chance for him to shine and rise. Yet he, and many in the banquet, knows that victory is far from over. And this presents a chance, with greater risk than before, to impress the Sultan and the Pashas of the Sultanate. Sanjak-beys and Aghas of the Janissary Corps all seek to devour their enemies, both in and out of the Sultanate. And Baybur, in the midst of this brewing storm, is no different from a fish dreaming to be a dragon. But a woman he meets at the banquet changes everything; his goals, his dreams, and his fate. After all, love, without expression, is a deadly curse. As a note, Cover is not mine obviosuly, and I write this both for NaNoWriMo and Writathon. To some history lovers and nerds who specialize in it, I know you might be angered quite a deal with some things I've written.(I get the feeling when someone talks wrong foolish things in a study I know, no hate) But this is a historical fiction written by a seventeen-year-old, don't expect much from me to know every single detail. Much of my research is surface level and some things are, well, to fit plot, are changed. So bear that in mind. For schedule/chapter thingt, there will be at most five chapters until I pass the 55.555 words mark. Each chapter will be around or above 10k+ words. It is also not edited, and probably won't be unless I find a great deal of time in my hands after November to see what I lack in where. That's all. Now go read, or leap to another fiction. Enjoy!

The Woman In The Palace
Highest rank #1 in Historical He glared at me with irritation. "Come inside!" ...And I did. He pointed to the stack of books on the floor. "Pick them up and arrange them the way they're supposed to."With trembling hands, I did what he asked quickly. Fret in the way I moved, picking up the books into my arms and lap one by one only for them to fall back on the floor over and over. I was a mess, upset, and it was obvious. This wasn't the kind of first meeting I dreamed of.The second prince was mean, and he was irritable. He had no clue who I am which made me resent it even more.He scowled as he watched me made mistakes after mistakes and after a while, he grew frustrated and bent over, picking the books himself."Forgive me, I didn't mean to snarl at you the way I did. I'm not used to being distracted. No one ever walks in my office unless they have my permission. I don't even know how the guardsmen let you in." I wanted to say because unlike you, they recognized who I am. But I kept my mouth shut in fear of aggravating his anger. His voice took a lot gentler tone, I imagined he must've realized how upset I was and felt bad about it.I said nothing. When we're done, I rose up to my feet, couldn't wait to get out of this room. This man was so impolite to me that I couldn't wait to get away from him."I apologize, your highness. I didn't mean to distract you in your private office." I stepped back getting ready to leave when a sliver of sunlight struck highlighting my face. "Wait!" He murmured and I turned back to look at him."You're beautiful." He said breathlessly.I would have blushed, but he was so mean and rude to me that his compliment lost its impact long ago."I need to go," I told him."Wait." A wave of panic rose in the tide of his voice. The prince was afraid to lose me. "What's your name, girl?" He asked quickly. "Jasmine, my name is Jasmine, your highness.""My Jasmine?" He murmured hopeful.
