"Honey, you've been out here for hours. You better give Nano a break," my mother says as she walks up to the pen. It's real hot outside today as well.
"I'm waiting for Leo," I say, hopping off Nano and walking up to her. Leo was supposed to practice riding again today. He hasn't ridden since last week when he got on Poppy for the first time.
"Leo and his mother have been here thirty minutes?" Mom says.
"Don't look to me. I don't know where he is."
"Oh well. He's here somewhere." She turns around and heads back to the house. I shrug it off and head towards Nano who is just wandering about still fully tacked.
I take Nano to the cross ties.
"How long you been riding for?" I snap my head around to see Leo leaning in the door frame.
I should really tell him about the yelling 'door' but I have a feeling he will ignore I ever mentioned it.
"I don't know. Forever." I say putting on Nano's halter and walking towards Leo. "Where were you?"
"Just out back watching."
"I- you were watching?"
"Yeah," he shrugs. "Was curious."
I run my hand through my hair as he wanders about looking at things. I get Poppy and start to get him ready as Leo asks a thousand questions of what things do.
This time I have him lead Poppy out to the mounting block. After years of not using it, I'm surprised we still have it, and it's intact. I guide him through all the steps of mounting a horse and spend the next forty minutes continuing where we left off last time.
We stop at around six, when the sun is starting to set. I'm sweating from being in the tight riding clothes all day and summer sun.
"This time watch me untack and I'm going to hand you everything to put away."
He nods his head and waits for me. I explain what I'm doing as I go. After that he goes back to the house and I go to have a shower.
"Hello?" I ask picking up the phone. I put it on speaker so I can put on clothes.
"Yeah hey," Keanu says. "Mind if I come over this weekend? I've been so busy this week with tennis and I haven't seen you much."

"Yeah that works. Aleks and Julian come over Saturday though so can you stand being around them for a bit?"
"Yeah I'll suck it up so I can see you. Although I'm not sitting watching you all play video games."
"We can play football out in the yard."
"Oh wait you won't be able to see them anyway."
"What?" I practically yell as I put on my shirt and hope my phone can hear me.
"Yeah my dad wants to invite you guys onto the boat for a day."
I move to pick up my phone and hold it to my ear. "We've already spent the last two weeks on it, why can't the parents just go?"
"C'mon, I really like that they've become friends."
"Yeah okay I'll go."
"Okay I gotta go," she replies happily before she hangs up.
I head back into the bathroom to comb my hair. It's still wet from the shower, considering I only got out two minutes ago.
I make my way downstairs passing Leo in the living room on his phone. When I enter the dining room the moms aren't there but I spot them on the patio outside enjoying the sunset, drinking tea.
"Hey," I smile as I slide open the glass door and step outside.
"You do a great job teaching horse back riding," Mrs. Medero says.
"Oh you were watching?" Can everyone stop watching me?
"You have no idea how shocked... and relieved I am that he actually seems to take an interest in the sport," she says setting her cup down on the glass table.
"Yeah he's picking it up fast," I say sitting down at the table.
Both moms seem to stare at me with such hope. My mother just adores me and makes sure to let me know on a daily basis, meanwhile Mrs. Medero seems to believe I'm "fixing" her son.
"You're such a sweet boy," Mrs. Medero says before turning her head to face my mom. "You raised him so well."
"I take responsibility for his manners but his father has taught him everything."
"Oh and he has the best grades. Keanu loves to go on about how smart he is."
I awkwardly laugh before standing up, asking if either of them wants anything, them saying no and heading inside.

"Robin better watch out that my mother doesn't adopt you." I look up to Leo after he makes the comment. He's moved from the couch in the other room to sit in the kitchen which is right next to the patio doors. Also where the windows are open so mom can have a 'fresh breeze'.
"One second you don't mind me, the next you seem to dislike me," I mutter. Gosh he really is Keanu's brother.
"I speak my mind." He still hasn't lifted his head from his phone.
"Oh I've noticed." I snap the fridge shut after grabbing a water. "Hasn't it ever gotten you in trouble?"
"From parents or like a punch in the face?"
"Well I'm already aware you tend to get in trouble with your parents, so let's go with punch in the face." Surely it has because I want to punch him in the face sometimes but I have self control.
"I've gotten into fights. I tend to get on peoples nerves."
"You don't say," I grumble as I walk past him out of the kitchen.
I make my way up to my room where I read for a bit. Aleks calls and convinces me to go to a baseball game.
For a bit I sit in my room completely bored. My schedule is usually so full I never have nothing to do.
I make my way back downstairs where Leo is back on the couch.
"Board game?" I ask. He looks up at me as if I just asked him the most absurd thing. "What? I'm bored and you appear to be stuck here."
"They broke out the wine." He rolls his eyes. "I'm never leaving."
"Maybe start driving yourself places," I say as I finish walking down the stairs.
"I don't have my license."
"Really?" I walk over to the board game cupboard ignoring the fact that he never agreed to play a game. "Uno?"
"Why not."
I grab uno and bring it over to the couch, not entirely sure how to play. It's been years.
"How many cards we start off with?" I ask.
"Hell if I know." He shrugs.
"Okay seven," I bullshit the number and deal us both seven cards. I don't shuffle but oh well. Nobody really knows the real rules to Uno. "This should be pretty simple considering it's one V one."
"Wait till we start stacking plus two's"
"Okay so once someone already picked them up they don't count. For example if I put down a plus two, you pick up plus two and I put down another one as my next turn you would only pick up another two as opposed to four."
"Sure."
I put down a green skip a turn, making it my turn again I then put down a red one, and then a red change direction then a red seven.
"Well that was annoying," he says.
Then he puts down three sevens. The last one being blue.
Maybe I should've shuffled.
I put down a blue six and then he puts down a yellow six putting him at two cards and me, four.
However, I have three twos. One of them being yellow.
I really needed to shuffle these.
I put them down leaving me with one card. He can't play so he picks up but as soon as he does,
"Hah you didn't say Uno, you have to pick up."
"What? Shit, right."
Putting us both at three cards. I look down at the card I picked up and it's a plus four.
"Green," I say placing the plus four card down.
He smiles before placing down a plus four of his own. "Blue."
"Bitch," I mutter as I pick up eight cards.
I end up getting two plus twos and a skip a turn but none of them are blue. I only have one blue and it's a seven.
He places down his blue card. "Uno."
I don't have any more blue so I'm forced to pick up. Luckily I pick up a blue so I place down the blue six.
Unfortunately, his last card is a six.
"I win," he smiles. "Another round?"
"This is stupid and I don't know why I suggested we play Uno," I snatch the cards before heading to the cupboard to get real cards.
"Someones a sore loser," he laughs under his breath.
"This time we're playing speed," I say dropping the zip lock bag with the cards on the couch.
This game is too confusing for him to pick up quick enough to beat me. I set up the cards and vaguely explain the game before showing an example.
Confident that I'll win we start the game.
Two minutes later he beats me...
