《Fall》Chapter Seventeen

The car ride home was silent. Neither Annie or Mikasa had said a word to each other since they left the coffee shop. Mikasa had told Annie she was dissapointed in her nd that se had thrown the packet of cigarettes away, plus gotten rid of the lighter. Annie didnt have much to say about it, only that she was sorry and wanted to go home. So, they did.
Mikasa pulled into the drive way and parked the car, but once it was at a stop was when Annie jumped out and ran inside. Maybe she could stay at Armin;s for a while, they had become friends as time passed. She was sure he'd let her stay. The blonde shook her head, no that wasnt right. She wasnt going to run away. All she could do was apologize to Mikasa and let her go with her where ever she went to monitor what she was buying at the store.
Mikasa would once never let Eren out of her sight, but noe she realized it was always Annie she should have been worried about. Even before they became friends, Annie was always so mean and rude, it was obvious something had been going on. She just wished she had caught it sooner rather than later.
Annie ran past Eren without saying hi, she went straight to Her and Mikasa's room. She threw the door open and stepped inside, slamming it behing her. She leaned against the wall and slid down the door and closed her eyes, 'Why couldnt I have been more careful?' She asled herself, "But...' her eyebrows drew together, 'Is that what's really important to me? That I wasnt careful? No, that's not it...It's that I finally had someone who really cared about me and I let them down.' She opened her eyes and stared at the ceiling. She tilted her head to the left a little and just strared at nothing as she waited for the sound of Mikasa to come through the door and walk up the stairs. What would she say? What wouold she do?

A door opened and Mikasa's voice came from down stairs. "I cant believe this." Mikasa sighed. Annie opned the door and crawled to the top of the stairs and watched them on the couch like she was a little girl watching her parents argue.
"Cant believe what? That your troubled girlfriend who was alomst beaten to death smokes?" Eren put down a glass on the table and looked at Mikasa. To Annie's suprise, Mikasa shook her head, "No, thats not it. It's the fact that she didnt tell me." She said. Eren looked a little confused at her, "it's not like that would come naturally for her. She's been hiding away all this time and when she finally said something to make her dad snap, look what happned." That's when she understood he was right. Just becuase she gradually warmed up to them, doesnt mean she has already shared all of her secrets to them.
Annie had heard all she wanted to hear, though. She carefully crawled back into the room and closed the door.
