《Safe Haven》Chapter Forty Eight

I close my last bag and fall back on my bed.
"Have I already mentioned how much I hate packing?" I whine.
"Not for the past 20 seconds." Jamie chuckles and pulls me my head on her chest.
"What about planes? Did I mentioned that I hate them too?" I laugh and lean in for a kiss. How am I going to live without these for the next months?
"Do you have anything else to pack?" She looks around my now completely bare room.
"Nope, I'm done."
There's a knock on my door and Daisy comes in.
"We're off, girls," she says.
"We just came to say goodbye." Jess follows her and comes to lie on the bed with us.
The four of us lie side by side in silence, just looking at the ceiling.
"I'm gonna miss y'all," Jess says.
"Don't start." Daisy sits up to look at her. "If we begin with all that stuff I'm going to cry and I really don't want to sob right now." She lies back down and we're in silence again.
I raise my left arm to look at the birds tattooed on my wrist. I trace it with my right fingers. My eyes close and I try to hold back the tears that threaten to come out. I take a deep breath but it comes out shaky.
"Stop it, Allison!" Daisy jumps up and points at me. "We're not doing this."
"It's not like I'm doing it on purpose, you know." I dry the tears that stubbornly began flowing down my cheeks.
"Don't do that," she whines, but her voice is a little chocked up.
"I can't help it."
She pulls me up and hugs me. We just stand there, crying in the middle of my room.

"We're so pathetic," she whispers in my ear and I laugh. "You can't possibly know how happy I am that you're here." Her arms tighten around me and that does it, the waterworks begin.
We hold each other tightly, crying hard like two little babies. More arms wrap around us and I open my eyes to meet Jamie and Jess crying too. I let go of Daisy so we can all hold each other.
"I hate us," I whisper and we laugh.
"C'mon, Daisy, we have to go." Jess pulls back and Jamie's arms squeeze me against her.
"You have everything, right?" Daisy asks Jamie.
Since we're all moving out of our dorms and getting an apartment together next semester, we gathered our decorations, towels, linens, and other the things that made no sense for us to take home on a plane then back here. Jamie is taking those to her place and bring it back. Why waste space on our luggage and make it heavier when she has an empty car ready to be stuffed?
"Yep, they're already on my trunk."
"Great." She dries her tears and grabs Jess' hand. "Let's go. Bye, girls."
The two leave my room, and Jamie and I stand in silence, holding each other.
I open my bedroom door and frown at my luggage waiting to be taken to the car. I rub my stomach now filled with food and sit on my bed.
After the girls left, Jamie and I hung out for a bit then had lunch. Scott met us there to say goodbye before facing the journey back to LA.
I flop on my bed and Jamie lies next to me. I cuddle against her and breath deeply.
"We have to go soon," she says as she runs her fingers through my hair.

"But I don't want to," I whine, hiding my face on the crook of her neck.
She giggles and kisses my head. "Don't you miss you family?"
"I do, but I want to be with you a little longer."
"I'll be all yours in August, we'll have plenty of time to be together."
I look at her and get lost in her dark brown eyes. I brush her hair behind her ear and pull her in. Her soft lips meet mine in a soft kiss, her fingers brushing against my cheek.
"This is great and all," she whispers against my lips, "but we really do have to get going if you don't want to miss that flight." She kisses me quickly and gets off the bed.
I whine, but follow her and we pick up my bags. I lock the door behind me then we stop by her room to grab her things. We stuff her car and get in to drive to the airport.
She turns on some music then rests her right hand on my thigh. I smile and lace my fingers with hers. We spend the drive singing and dancing to her playlist.
She pulls up on the terminal and we sit quietly.
"Can we press pause and stay here a little longer?" I whisper.
"I wish." She rubs her thumb on the back of my hand then presses a kiss on my head. "C'mon."
We get out of the car and grab my things out of the trunk. She closes it and I pull her in a hug, doing my best not to shed the tears forming in my eyes.
"Call me when you land," she whispers against my hair.
"Will do." I kiss her softly and wrap my arms around her.
She pulls back and rubs my cheeks with her thumbs.
"I love you," she whispers.
"I love you too."
She pecks my lips and walks back to her door, getting in the car. I wave and she pulls away.
I check in and go through security, keeping my mind away from her and the girls so I don't cry.
I've never been this emotional, but these months were so insane I pretty much turned into a baby. Just the thought of what they did for me was enough to bring tears to my eyes.
I board the plane and take my seat. The memories I made with Jamie flood my mind and I can't help the small smile forming on my lips. I truly love this girl with all my heart.
My phone buzzes in my pocket and I pick it up just to find texts from her.
