You've been awake for some time, listening to the nice quiet around you. It was never this quiet under the bridge, what with all the cars going back and forth all the time. There was a faint beeping from a monitor, but that was it. You finally sat up a little, reaching up to rub your eyes but you could only move one hand..? You paused, your free hand rubbing one eye. You look with your other eye to see your left hand cuffed to the bed. You kinda just looked at it for a little bit, very confused. You tugged at it, your confusion growing into slight panic. After a few minutes you just gave up, looking around. You were in a large-ish gray room with a hallway in front of you and a table full of computers, and 2 rooms on either sides of you. All of the room were empty though, which meant it was probably night time, seeing that all the lights were out. You sighed, looking at the cuffs. You tugged at them one last time before thinking of something. You quickly hopped off the bed and looked at the bottom to see wheels! That meant you could walk around, you just had to drag the bed with you. You grinned at your idea and dragged it with some difficulty, starting toward the hallway.
After a while you had explored every inch of the place, even the pipe line. The people there were kinda freaky though... You weren't going back there any time soon! You were back in the cortex, messing with the handcuffs with a screwdriver. You had found just the right size and were starting to unscrew the handcuffs with a lot of difficulty. Suddenly you heard footsteps, and your head shot up towards the hallway, where the noises were coming from. Two of the people from earlier walked in, but froze as they noticed you, frozen, screwdriver in hand. While they were frozen you quickly took in their features. (im way to lazy to explain so basically its just Cisco and Caitlyn)

You noted that the girl was the one that had cried when she saw Edith.... You would have to ask her that later. You huffed, seeing that they weren't going to do anything, and turned back to the cuffs, working the screw out a little more. Cisco suddenly raised his hand toward me, "Stop! Move one more time and i blast you." He shouted. Your gaze snapped back to him and you froze, not knowing what he meant. He narrowed his eyes at you as you tried not to move. Then you randomly spoke cuz you had a small idea in your head. "Please tell me breathing doesn't count." He just kinda stands there, blank. "Uhm... no, breathing doesn't count.." You sighed in relief "Oh good, cuz that'd just be mean" You chuckled. He just kinda stared at you in surprise, and the girl behind him spoke up. "Exactly who are you??" You looked at her, confused for a sec then deciding to kinda play around. "Why, i'm the girl your di-... friend shot the other day, don't you recognize me?" You say in a sarcastic voice. She doesn't seem amused, how disappointing...
"hmh. tough crowd. ANYWHO. iiii am in STAR labs correct? don't answer that." You said as Cisco opened his mouth. You turned back to the cuffs and gave them a solid yank, making them split right in half, sadly one half was still attached to your wrist. "... OH COME OOOOONNNNNNNN" You groaned loudly.

Superior Era
How would you react if you found yourself unable to sleep? Not just for one day, or two days, or even three days, but a more permanent time span, like the rest of your life? That’s exactly the predicament Dario finds himself in and he’s thoroughly vexed by it. After all, what sort of sane person would want to miss out on sleep? A madman, that's who. It’s especially worrying considering how he lives in a world filled with fantastical monsters, deadly beasts, and 'Superiors' supposedly protecting the interests of humanity. Sleep is quite the necessity under those circumstances. Life is tough for an ostracized kid, but Dario quickly realizes that his wakeful nights are more blessing than curse, as there seems to be quite a few advantages in not having to sleep... Join Dario as he climbs the ranks of superhumans, uncovers hidden truths, travels the world, and discovers abilities he never before thought possible. This is a tale of superpowered/superhero-like individuals set in a dangerous fantasy world with hints of GameLit elements. Features MC with abilities deemed unique to the world and can disregard the need for sleep at no cost to himself. No Harems. Current Release Schedule: 3-5 chapters per week. (Slower updates for holiday season) First few chapters are fairly short, but the rest will average around 2.5k words.

Paternum: A Superhero Story
When Quinn finds an experimental superpower-granting costume in their parents’ attic, they didn’t expect to be drawn into a web of superhuman intrigue, but their discovery serves as the catalyst for that conspiracy to slowly unravel. At it’s heart, Paternum is an extended coming-of-age story for the main character as they become a superhero, in a world with more reasonable stakes and less powerful heroes than many superheroic worlds. Themes include what art means to different people, and what it means to be a patron, whether as a sponsor, a parent, or a supporter. I consider Paternum‘s primary influences to be the various versions of Spider-Man, J. C. McCrae’s own superhero story Worm, and Drew Hayes’ story SuperPowereds. I hope that fans of such stories can find something to enjoy in mine as well. Paternum is primarily hosted on my website (thevoidwrites.com) where it updates weekly in groups of scenes totalling approximately 2000 words. Here on Royal Road, it will update once daily with one scene at a time, but only after each act is completed on the home site - the next batch of updates is scheduled to begin on February 5th. There is a discord channel for discussion (discordapp.com/invite/QFMM6yA), and you can vote for Paternum on topwebfiction (topwebfiction.com/vote.php?for=paternum) as well. Finally, you can buy the first book of Paternum, The Swift Uplifting Rush, in a couple different ways - as an ebook through Amazon, or directly from me for a discounted price, or as a physical paperback from Amazon. Buying the book will give you access to Drawing Hands, an exclusive arc that won't ever be published on either my site or Royal Road.

Life is Feudal
No OP stuff, status bars, levels or skills. This story is in favour of more realistic setting in a world of humans and various monsters. "Behind the mask of the assertive, resolute facade that employs ruthless routes at any given moment, lies the frail, anxious heart that were once but a puny human. Reviled and revered by many, none would ever know my true allegiance lies within myself, merely trying to survive this mess." Just the life of a grumpy man child living in a terrible piece of shit or a desolate state in which I call an alternate historical take on medieval Europe. Living as a peasant who is forced to take up arms to defend his own kin. This story grants an insightful take on the life of people living under constant danger, from vying nobles who commit atrocities in the name of justice, eager nations and barbarians aiming to take a piece of the bountiful land and mythical divine monsters who resembles a walking catastrophe in any possible way. [If you're easily offended by alternate-history religion and cultural practices, then you shouldn't read this.]
