《Arranged》Chapter Forty Seven

Kristin and Ryder were in the pack building for the majority of the day. Kristin was being kept busy, but she appreciated how everyone valued her input on things besides just Ryder's decisions.
She had just finished up a surprising meeting with one of the people working on her and Ryder's house being built. She found out the house was finished and now they were getting her input before starting the interior decorating.
At first she was surprised Ryder had skipped out on this meeting but it looked like he really didn't care about interior design when he said Kristin could make the decisions.
It slightly overwhelmed her, thinking that they would soon be living in their own official house. It brought them one step closer to taking the next step in their relationship, but Kristin still wasn't sure she was ready.
"I'm having Evelyn stay with you until I get home. It won't be until late," Ryder's words brought her back to reality.
"What?" Kristin zoned back in, "I thought you were done for the day too?"
Ryder grimaced, shaking his head.
"Okay," she shrugged, "I'll see you at the house."
"What, no goodbye kiss?" Ryder smirked at her.
"Goodbye Ryder," Kristin returned his smirk and left. She really liked the idea of a goodbye kiss. However, she wasn't about to give into Ryder.
"Yeah yeah," she heard him mutter from behind her.
Evelyn gave Kristin a ride back to Ryder's house, and they were sitting in the living room, watching a movie.
"I'm hungry," Evelyn groaned, standing up to go rummage through the kitchen. Lucky for her, Ryder always kept his cupboards full of food. Kristin wasn't sure who did the shopping for him since he never went. All she knew was there was always a huge supply of food at the house.

"Ohhh," Evelyn exclaimed, turning to Kristin.
"Huh?" she asked, looking over at the cupboard Evelyn had opened. It was one in the far corner that she had never looked in herself.
Evelyn grinned before taking out two fifths of alcohol.
"This should fill me up," she said, retuning to the couch.
Kristin raised a brow at her, "That's a lot."
"That's why you're going to help me," Evelyn nodded at her, opening the first bottle and pouring herself a shot.
"No thanks," Kristin laughed.
Evelyn gave her a look, "Wait you're serious? I thought you'd be the one to party?" she teased.
"I hardly ever drink, only socially sometimes."
"This is social drinking," she shrugged and handed Kristin a glass.
"Not a shot," she wrinkled her nose.
"Ahhh," Evelyn held up a finger before getting up to go into the kitchen.
Minutes later she returned with a glass, "Here ya go."
"What is this?" Kristin scrunched her nose.
"I just mixed it with lemonade so it wouldn't be as strong. Try it, it'll be good!"
Kristin took a sip, not expecting it to be as strong as Evelyn had made it.
"Yeah it's good," Kristin agreed, although she shut her eyes and waiting for the burning of the alcohol to subside.
Evelyn laughed at her, pouring herself another shot.
An hour later they were both laughing and having a great time.
Kristin felt light and worry free, besides the fact that she was watching Evelyn drink one entire bottle by herself and then finishing off the last half of the second one.
"How are you still alive right now?" Kristin laughed at her.
Evelyn grinned and shrugged, "I'm a werewolf, it takes me more to get drunk."

Judging by the slight slur of her words and her newfound clumsiness, Kristin figured Evelyn was pretty close to that point. It was fine though because they were both having a great time, Kristin had never laughed this hard in her life. Whether this had to do with the fact that this was probably the most alcohol she had ever consumed, she wasn't sure.
"What's that noise?" Evelyn suddenly sat up, swaying to look around.
"It's probably Ryder," Kristin heard herself say.
She didn't hear any noise but since Evelyn could hear better than her, she figured it was Ryder.
"Uh, oh," Evelyn's eyes widened, and she tried to stand up.
"He's going to be mad," she mumbled, putting her arms out to find her balance.
"Why am I going to be mad?" They could hear Ryder's voice approaching.
Kristin remained silent but watched him walk through the door, butterflies forming in her stomach.
"Why does it smell like—" he stopped talking and narrowed his eyes at the scene.
"What the hell are you two doing?" His voice actually sounded scary and Kristin could see why Evelyn shrunk back in her seat. She knew she had done something wrong.
Ryder walked over and picked up one of the three empty bottles of Malibu, turning to Kristin.
"You were drinking?" he sounded curious but at the same time angry.
Kristin shrugged, "Maybe."
She had tried to make her voice sound normal, but it was difficult to get the word out.
"It was just me," Evelyn jumped in to defend Kristin, "Just relax Ryder."
"Just relax?" he replied bitterly, "I can smell alcohol on both of you. Not only did you have Kristin drink with you, but you were supposed to be her guard. How in the hell are you supposed to protect her when you can't stand on your own feet?"
"Ryder, calm down, everything's fine," Kristin stood up, but the room began to spin.
"Woah," she muttered, almost losing her balance. She hadn't expected that to happen.
Before she fell, Ryder grabbed her arm to steady her.
She let out a laugh, wrapping her arms around his waist to support herself.
"I'm sorry," Evelyn squeaked out. She was avoiding eye contact and Kristin realized this was the first time she had seen Evelyn actually afraid of someone.
"You're sorry? Did you serious just apologize for this? How's that going to make anything better?" Ryder raised his voice at Evelyn and Kristin felt bad.
Moving her hand over his mouth to stop him from talking, was the first thing she thought to do.
"Stop it Ryder, you're being mean."
He grabbed her hand and moved it away from his mouth, narrowing his eyes at her.
"I'm being mean?" he shut his eyes for a couple of seconds, most likely asking for patience, "Stay here Evelyn, I'm not done talking to you."
And with that he started dragging Kristin out of the room.

Thomas the Brawler
Thomas doesn't remember what his last name was, before it became Bluebrim, a name belonging to another universe. He's also pretty sure he wasn't this stupid before he arrived, but what can you do, when a day that was supposed to begin with an interview to set your life back on track instead begins in a universe that makes no sense, with rules you can't begin to understand? Maybe he should have paid more attention to the avatar creation screen ... Content warnings: All of them. Seriously. Expect lots of blue screens to begin with. Don't expect a power-leveling fantasy, in which the lone hero beats up all the bad guys, and gets a harem of women. There's just a guy who treats character creation like an annoying series of pop-up advertisements, and the story is basically the ramifications of that. The main character has to learn to take the world he's found himself in seriously, and he'll learn the way most of us do, by doing it wrong first. This is, insofar as it is successful, a dark comedy fantasy. Also a bit of horror, particularly but not exclusively body horror. I'm pretty sure I've earned those Content Warning tags, so, uh, yeah. This is practice. Hopefully things improve as I go, and figure out what I'm doing wrong, but I make no guarantees things will ever get better. I've already made mistakes, I'll make more, and I'm happy to notice them each time I make them. You don't improve unless you fail. (On the plus side, it probably won't get much worse.) Feel free to point out anything you think I'm doing wrong; I don't promise to change anything, particularly if it's a matter of taste, but I am looking to improve, and figuring out what I need to improve goes faster if I don't have to try to figure it out myself. I've updated the earlier chapters for formatting, in the hope that it would make everything easier to read on mobile devices. Hopefully things work slightly better now, but please let me know if there are any issues anywhere.

Displacement
or, Deux Navires Passant dans la Nuit If you wake up in a new world, with only your memories of home to guide you, you have to trust the first people you meet. The first people Leah meets seem to know her - but not her. Leah is thrust into a fighter's role that does not quite suit her, and those who 'rescued' her do their best to help her fit in. They hint at a world that Leah can only vaguely understand without serious research and exploration, but how to do that research, when everyone believes her to be a local of this place, and too many questions might draw unwanted attention? And what about home? The more Leah learns about this world, the less she believes that she woke up on the right side of the bed - or more accurately, on the right side of the conflict. With magic being strictly regulated in her current "home," maybe it's time to uproot and look for a new set of allies... -- Displacement is a queer / lgbt bodyswap isekai: Leah Armande falls out of a Quebecois city into an unfamiliar fantasy world, and Leah Talesh falls out of her adventuring party's homeland and into an unfamiliar industrial world. The story follows both women as they navigate their new surroundings, trying at times to find a way home, at times just to pass for a local, and at times to actually make a life for themselves in their new world. Expect in-depth politics and worldbuilding, sapphic moments, foibles, and far too much time spent either in libraries or convalescing (or sometimes both).
