"Why is waking up so difficult?" I asked, groaning as I was forced awake by shooting pain everywhere. "Because you lost half of your blood and didn't tell anyone," Tris said. "I- I was fine and then I wasn't" I said slowly. Moving too much hurt. "I need some damn pain killers, everything hurts," Tris laughed. "Where am I?" I asked. She gave me a look saying 'yikes' or something like that. "Well you're 2nd people got knocked down but you probably aren't going to be able to continue. Blood loss and all" she said. I noticed Christina and Al were also in my room. Al was looking at me with pity and I rolled my eyes. "Those were Fours orders weren't they?" I asked. Knowing my brother he wouldn't want me in dauntless any longer. Christina nodded. I looked towards the ceiling. "Ok" I didn't say anything besides that but I knew I would be continuing. I had to. They went to help the factionless after visiting me. I needed to at least finish another fight even if it's only one just before stage 1 is over. Most of my stitches were already ready to come out. It must've been one of the things they gave me. "What after fighting Eric almost killing Kai and Shane using trauma to help him win you're not going to do anything?" Christina's previous words rang in the back of my head. I think she saw the look of determination in my eyes but Instead of saying my usual comment I shook my head. "There's nothing to do" that's what Four would've said. It seemed as if I lost hope I no longer wanted to fight for my spot in dauntless it seemed useless to me. Four either didn't believe in me or didn't want me hurting myself. After a little silence they left to go help the faction less with the other dauntless members. We had one more day of fights then the war games after those we would see who's staying and who isn't. I fell asleep and woke up to my own screaming. A nurse had shaken me awake saying I had a nightmare I didn't remember nor did I realize I screamed in my sleep. Frankly, I would deal with that later and hope it didn't happen again. The lady left and I got up and went to the dorms. A clock in the room said it was 2 in the morning. I'd have time to practice. I had only slept in here twice in the however many times I've been here. Everyone was sleeping peacefully. Kai was back already but Zane and Peter's beds were empty. I didn't care whatsoever they were probably playing some prank on some innocent victim.

By cold steel and elemental sorcery, they brought peace to a warring land on the brink of destruction. As the flames died, the realm needed strong leadership, and who better than the champions who had saved the kingdom? But when the people sought out their saviors... they vanished. Matt, Blake, Jen, and Carl: the four mysterious companions, who together had deposed an insane ruler and saved countless lives, were gone—spirited back in a whirlwind of magic to a sleepy suburb in Mellbridge, Oregon, never to return. The friends found themselves home in the real world, exactly as they'd been the night they were taken, as if no time had passed... except only three came back. Hi there! This was my entry for National Novel Writing Month, because why only write one series at a time? The more the merrier! (meanwhile, my keyboard bursts into flames...) I'm also the writer of The Last Science, an ongoing low-fantasy/speculative sci-fi series. If you're familiar with that, you know what to expect here: lots of character-focused drama and dialogue, not a whole lot of traditional action. However, I'm writing a bit differently than usual here, and in a very different structure, so there should be some surprises for returning readers. I hope you enjoy it! [Discord] — for those of you who want to hang out and chat. Cover art (fullsize): Path of Revelation, by taenaron (Tobias Roetsch), modified by Etzoli. Normally I like to do my own cover art from scratch, but I was in a rush for the contest. Might be replaced down the line if I get time.
