《Since You Been Gone》Chapter 12

"Mommy, what is a ship?" Lucas asks. I look down at him with a confused look. He is in the floor playing with a bunch of cars that look like the ones from the Disney movie. The cars are all lined up in a row and the police car is infront of the line like he is pacing back and forth, looking for a suspect in a crime. I place the bookmark in the book I was reading and place the book on the end table.
"You know what a ship is. It is like a big boat. Kind of like Captain Hook or Jack Sparrow," I explain, using pirates he would be familiar with. Christina has shown him Peter Pan multiple times. Jack Sparrow comes from Zeke who didn't think twice about showing the two year a kind of scary movie. He scrunches up his eyebrows but turns back to the cars. He moves the police car up and down the line a few more times and stops in front of the rusty tow truck who happened to be my favorite in the movie.
"That is kind of strange, though, in the way I meant it," Lucas says. This time, it is me who scrunches up their eyebrows. Is it talking about the relationship shipping? How would he even know about that?
"What kind of ship are you talking about?" I ask. He just kind of shrugs and leans on the footstool in the middle of the room. He tilts his head to the side kind of like a puppy does. He puts his finger to his chin and kind of his mouth puckers up his lips.
"Well, I'm not exactly sure. I overheard Uriah talking about shipping something with Zeke earlier," he says. I bite the inside of my mouth not really sure how to explain this. Lucas obviously does not understand everything about dating yet.

"Well, when you ship something you think they would make a good couple. Like. . . Anna and Kristoff in frozen. A lot of people say that they think they would be a good couple so they 'ship' them," I quickly explain, trying to give him a couple that won't scar him. He nods again.
"So, when Uriah says that he ships you and Mr. Four he thinks you two would make a good couple?" he asks. I can't help but gasp at that. I cannot believe that Uriah still believes there is a chance of me and Tobias getting back together, forget shipping us. Although, when I was younger I did ship things that would never happen.
"Um, yeah. I don't think that would ever happen, though," I say. Lucas nods and gets down in the floor, his attention back on the cars that are still lined up. His attention seems to be mostly on the tow truck and police car, though. I watch him for a few more minutes before deciding to go back my book. As I open it, though, the phone rings. I pick it up and answer without looking at the number that popped up on the screen.
"Hello?" I ask. Lucas goes back to playing with his toys. He moves the police car and the tow truck out of the line and drives them under the footstool, mumbling the entire time about how he is guilty but then contradicts himself by saying he is inoccent.
"Hey, Tris, I wanted to make sure we were still on for tonight," a deep voice says. I scrunch my eyebrows up again. What was going on tonight. I didn't realize I had plans.
"Um, what is going on tonight?" I ask. I hear Tobias let out a deep breath on the other side of the line. He is quiet for a few seconds like he is regretting something.

"I guess it is a good thing I called and asked, but dinner. I was invited to come by your place for dinner by Lucas," he says. I look down in the floor to where Lucas is playing with one of the race cars like it is a plane, flying it around the room and making an engine noice with his mouth.
"And when exactly did that happen?" I ask. He sighs agains.
"Today after the 'hunger games,' which we need to talk about," he says. I nod to myself thinking about the events of earlier. After Lucas shot me, he shot Tobias. I avoided talking with Tobias because of the deal we made. When Lucas and I went to leave, Lucas asked to go back inside because he forgot his stuffed monkey. It took a little longer than I thought it would but I didn't ask questions. I had just figured they started joking around.
"I guessed he invited you when he was looking for his stuffed monkey?" I ask. Lucas's eyes shoot off the car in his hand and to my face. He has a panicked look on his face. I would too if I were him. Or at least I would if I knew the history, but he does not.
"That is correct," he says. I let out a long sigh, knowing what I need to do even though it is not what I want to do.
"Well, you are still welcome to join us, but I should warn you I can't cook. We will most likely have sweet and sour chicken or whatever microwaveable meal I can find in the freezer," I quickly explain. His laughter escapes the speaker on the phone and travels to my ear and I find myself laughing too.
"I think that sounds wonderful," he says. We are quite for a few more minutes. I open my mouth to say a quick goodbye but he stops me. "Tris, I want to tell him tonight," he says quickly. I sigh and it takes all my might not to snap and get mad. I know I can't since it is his decision.
"Are you sure?" I ask. He exhales a deep breath.
"I'm sure. I think it's time," he says. I nod to myself even because that is all the fight I can give in with this subject. It is no longer my choice.

Sexy Sect Babes
“One in a billion.” Jack kept repeating the mantra in his head. “One in a billion.” That was the number the Omni-Corps liked to cite whenever someone stepped onto one trans-mat pad and then simply… never stepped off the other. “Safer than a car,” he repeated as he slogged through the snow, his mining overalls doing at least a passable job of keeping out the cold as he brushed aside a tree branch. “Safer than a plane. Or a starship. Safest form of transport in the Star League.” He slammed his fist into a nearby tree, exo-empowered strength shattering it into little more than scattered bark and kindling. “Yeah, well I never heard of a car ride stranding some prick in another dimension!” He roared, his voice echoing through the seemingly endless forest around him. Then he kept marching. He’d seen the fire off in the distance. And given all the snow around, he sincerely doubted it was natural. Which left the unnatural. Which meant people. He hoped. Because even if the trans-mat had screwed up, he doubted it had dumped him too far off the central finite curve. The fact that the air was breathable and that he could recognize the trees around him as oak told him that much. And if the dimension he was in had trees native to Earth, chances are it would have animals too. Of which humans would hopefully be no exception. “Because I’ll be damned if I spend the rest of my days talking to goddamn squirrels.” No, if there were humans on this mudball, he was going to find them. One way or another.

Evolution of the Lazy Gamer by Bruticus
It had been five years since the game Royalroad first appeared. A new expansion had been released and one person was assigned by his company to review it. That was the beginning of the story of a lazy, unheroic character who would meet others just as lacking in the heroism department as he was. Still life (or virtual life) throws you curve balls and you never know what will happen.

THIRTEEN (Evie's Perspective)
This is the 2003 movie, Thirteen, told from the perspective of Evie Zamora. We got Tracy's point of view, but what about Evie? Why did she do the things she did?I've seen a few different interpretations of Evie's perspective and I decided to give it a go. This is how I think Evie thought and the reasons behind why she did the things she did. This is NOT canon, just a fanfiction, and I am not affiliated with Thirteen or Catherine Hardwick in any way.
