《Since You Been Gone》Chapter 31

"Beatrice Prior, I cannot believe you did not go after that," Christina says as soon as I walk into her house. As expected, she, Will, Uriah, and Zeke are all gathered in the kitchen while they allow Lucas to watch television in the living room.
"Well, I apologize that I don't want to make the same mistake I did several years ago," I say in response. Christina rolls her eyes.
"Seriously, though, you shouldn't be afraid of Four," Christina says. Uriah nods and takes a chip from the bag in the center of the kitchen counter.
"Yeah, he is your baby daddy," Uriah says before shoving the chip in his mouth. I moan and rub my temple. Of course these were the people I chose as my friends all those years ago. What was four year old me thinking?
"Uriah!" Christina snaps. Uriah shrugs before taking the chip bag and walking out of the kitchen towards the living room.
"Don't worry, Uriah! I'm used to it!" I yell after him. Christina rolls her eyes and shakes her head.
"Was it at least a good kiss?" Christina whispers. She grins at me but her boyfriend next to her seems to be against this statement as he slaps her arm.
"That could have at least waited until I was out of the room!" Will protests. Christina rolls her eyes and shakes her head.
"Suck it, up butter cup," Christina says to him before turning to me. "Well, was it?" she asks me.
"It wasn't completely terrible," I whisper to her. Zeke and Will look at each other uncomfortably. I feel almost as uncomfortable answering this question as they look. "But, that doesn't mean anything other than it wasn't a completely terrible kiss," I finish in a louder voice.

"Yeah, sure," Christina says while managing to keep a silly grin on her face. I roll my eyes. A silence settles over us and there are no noises in the house until Uriah and Lucas's voices singing the Jake and The Neverland Pirates theme song echoes through the house, causing all of us to laugh.
"And that is my cue to go be the responsible ten month older brother," Zeke says before walking out of the room. We all laugh at his excuse to watch the Disney Junior television show.
"I'm gonna go use the bathroom," I say before walking out of the room and down the hallway to the small powder room.
When I walk back out, I stop when I hear Will say, "I wish she would just forgive him." I immediately know they are talking about me. If they weren't, I'm sure he would have said something about whoever it is with me around.
"Will, I know we all want them to make up and be together again but things don't always work that way," Christina replies in a soft voice.
"Well, I think Tris is being silly. If she still has feelings for him than it is stupid to block him out of her life," he states. I can see Christina shaking her head in my mind.
"Yeah, but you have to think about what Tris has been through. Him leaving her was rough," Christina says.
"Four leaving was rough on us, too, but it was practically the same as them going off to New York together. I don't understand why is reacting like this," Will says.
"Will! It was more than him just him going to college! It wouldn't have been so bad if she had at least known!" Christina says. I'm about to walk in to stop this conversation from going any further but then I realize my friends are saying this, not just anyone.

"I think Tris is just being over dramatic in order to draw attention to herself," Will states. I hear movements in the kitchen and, if it was even possible, I force myself closer to the wall.
"Will! You take that back!" Christina says in a little too loud voice.
"Lower your voice! Someone might suspect we were talking about Tris," Will says in a whisper yell. I hear someone take a deep breath, which I assume is Christina doing one of her yoga breath things she learned at the YMCA last summer.
"Well, you shouldn't be criticizing her about being hesitant to let Four in her or Lucas's life. He left her alone in New York while she was pregnant. I would most likely be hesitant if you did the same to me," Christina says. Before Will can respond, I back down the hallway to where the bathroom door is.
"Hey, Christina! What type of soap is in the bathroom?" I say in a loud voice as I walk back down the hall to the kitchen. When I walk through the door way, Christina and Will's faces have both pales. Well, Christina's has paled has much as it possibly could despite her dark skin.
"Oh, um, I'm not sure. I think I got it at Bath and Body Works," she says in a hesitant voice. I smile and join them at the island where they both have become ordinarily quiet.

Shrike
He wants to play the latest and greatest VRMMORPG game, but he can't muster up the cash for the fancy new proprietary hardware and membership license. After months of saving up cash and arduous work, he has built a behemoth of a machine relying almost entirely on seedy old technology and a DIY guide by some dude named "Jimmy Bob." This is the story of his entry into the game. This is also a story of intrigue, exploration, introspection, batshit crazy game design, and unintended but entirely predictable consequences. This is G.C.O. Undergoing a total re-write, mostly because I think things were too rushed rather than any content or direction changes. If you are one of the few who tried Shrike when it was briefly updating, consider giving it another shot. Of no relation to either The Great Crusade or the recent (in 2017 lol) Shrike book for Warhammer by Games Workshop. All similarities in these cases are superficial; please don't sue me. Feedback welcome and encouraged, never be afraid to review or comment. HQ/Kindle-Grade cover art. Book Cover 2.0: "From the Dark"
